UGH!

Post by chimung »

Yup Cybertron WILL be a another loser of a show!
They just don't build em like they used to.
I remember back when Megatron and Galvatron were two DIFFERENT molds, and characters. Maybe I should spraypaint myself a different color, change MY name, but actual completely the same, my bank will never see the difference!

I like the Downshift repaint. Is it just me, or is the new colour scheme meant to be a homage to a G1 character?

Thanks to Mininin for the sig.

yeah they do that now for Galvatron its a shame really-the megatron moulds are nice why waste them?? and its cheap for Takara rather then use a new mould recycle?

i look forward to the day of a mould for Megs and a seperate mould for Galvy:)

Hey - you're right!

I want the return of uber-fragile toys that shatter into a million pieces when I so much as breath on them! No more solid, robust toys, give me crappy plastic which splinters into deadly weapons!

However, remeber that it's Hasbro's naming convention that means the inevitable Megatron repaint is called Galvatron. In micron dentsu (sp) Megatron became Super Megatron (or which ever it was).. then when he showed up in Superlink completely reformatted he was called Galvatron.. Whereas Hasbro simply went "armada megatron -> Armada Galvy -> Energon Megatron -> Energon Galvy" and confused the hell out of things... It's lazy on hasbro's behalf, but I think you'll find that it's done to ensure the copyright is kept alive. nothing more, nothing less.

they could make a new mold for Megs and call it Galvatron as well...
they trademark names in the first place, not molds (as we see enough KOs anyway ;) )

Hey if classic TFs are too fragile for ya, Hasbro also sells these Gobots that might be right up your alley!

I would hardly call the same character, who talks and acts the same but with a different color scheme "Completely reformated" I call it lame and lazy!

That's a fault of the English dub, not of Hasbro.

Oh, and if you didn't catch it, there was a fairly strong undercurrent of sarcasm in my comments about the G1 TF toys being fragile..

How long do trademarks last exactly these days?

You have to use them within two years in order to be able to reclaim them.

Unless you use them repeatedly enough so you can claim "constant" use, which gets you in a position where you can register them. Once you've accomplished that, they're yours, and others will have a tough stand opposing them.

"Trademark" is like "name rights on lease". "Registered trademark" is like "purchased name rights".

You'd think he'd get tired of changing his name every time he gets a new color scheme or body. All that paperwork must be a bitch . . . :p

"the movie"

This isn't the same character. It barely even shares any similarities besides the name. This toy and design is also miles better than the one from 'the movie'...I'm fine with a repaint, as long as it looks as good as this one.
