Uh-huh, which was one of the few things I liked in the first series - most of the actual character models. But that does look silly. I'm still giving 5-1 on a Blaster v Soundwave fight.

Oh, toy-based art is a nice change... toy-based scale, on the other hand...

OK, leave the art, this guy's not Andy Wildman but I can stand it (even if Blaster has ****in' strange smile which give me creeps) and maybe in the comic it will be better. I more concern about story. It sounds good right now, maybe Op will join forces with Megatron, and it's going to be some big metal-ass-kicking. I wonder who this new ruler of Cybertron will be. Straxus? Probably not. Xaaron went mad?

Ah, but IIRC Xaaron & Starxus [as well as the elsewhere-suggested Jhiaxus] are all Marvel-owned characters, and therefore not covered by DW's license agreement with Hasbro... I'd like to be proven wrong on this one, but...

Talking

Nicked from member0 @ ATT:

Quote:
- Where is Starscream's right leg?
- Shouldn't Menasor be IN the rocky face according to his position?
- Why is Menasor half the size of Bruticus?
- Why is Grimlock half the size of Megatron?
- Where are Grimlocks upper legs?
- Surely some connector in Rumble's back is broken.
- Megatron's cannon.
- Why is Bombshell about to shoot at Kickback?
- Why are the Insecticons only as big as Rumble and Frenzy?
- Bruticus' legs, lower arms and fists, and lower torso. I mean,
really.
- What is Eject's right arm doing?
- Why are each of Bumblebee's feet are bigger than his entire upper
body combined?
- If Blaster's left foot is as enormous as his right, where is it?
- Why is Sunstreaker about to shoot Red Alert in the back?
- Sideswipe is crouching so low to the ground his right leg should be
kneeling, but it's just really really short.
- Prime's neck, elbows, front windows and all those extra stripes.
- Why are Overload's chest cannons red, not silver?
- What happened to the chair that Overload is sitting on?
- Why is Prime's gun deeply indented along all the non-edged areas?
- Why does Blaster look like he's about to fold in half?

And perhaps most importantly:

- Why is Prime thrusting his pelvis? Why is his codpiece so big? Why
is his left hand so large?
Though it should be Overdrive. But the rest of it's right-on. No, not the guy who designed the last Brabham, you F1 anoraks you.

I can't believe Bombshell was praising that crap. Are you blind man? How much has to be wrong with a drawing before you'll admit it's a bad drawing?

It looks as if Lee took all of 10 minutes to draw each cover.

Still, what if the story is good? Damn, I'm in the same boat as Cliffy, I don't want to contribute to a bad comic's success but I don't want to miss out on a good Transformer comic either. A moral delimma of the highest order.

*sigh*

It is a pain... but I think my curiosity will get the better of me... Besides, we need some guys who won't just blindly praise and buy multiple covers on the inside... Really, though, there being that much wrong with 2 covers [where even I'll admit Lee generally excels] does not bode well... from what we've heard so far the story could be of any level of quality. I do tend to collect a lot of comic lines with very questionable quality control, though, so this one will probably be nestling in my collection...

Well, I'm not so concerned with the art being bad. We know that Lee can draw better than that. He just has to put forth the effort. Even if he doesn't a good story would save it for me. Maybe this is a sign that Lee is concentrating on telling a good story and doesn't have as much time for the art. Yeah...

There isn't any issue of the original comic that is worse than the DW G1 mini series. There may be some that are as bad but nothing worse. Pretty pictures do not a good comic make...

DW's G1 miniseries sucked. Marvel's stories were very good for the most part. Just like Hound said, the damn G1 mini was just a book of pretty pictures.

I totally agree with that, Paladin. I love Marvel G1. I wish I could still read it here... ... but I digress. DW just doesn't cut it.

And going back to what Denyer said earlier in this thread about toy based art, it is indeed a change. I myself do that when I sit down and draw. I like to take a TF's toy design, and the cartoon and comic designs of the same character, and sort of meld them together. Man, it'd be the sh** if I could draw a real TF comic.

Aye, the composite character models are on the whole very good - Prowl, for instance, looked featureless in the Sunbow/Marvel media, but I like the police-car features all over him, even if the lights on his back looked bloody stupid in different colours...

Oh, and Jtotheiso187 [fcuking stupid s/n, btw...] - been this much of an ignorant ass from birth, or been practicing hard since...?

I do like to take after the toys' molds more, since I like to depict them as "transformable robots" -a bit bulky in areas- and not more streamlined, like Gundam- though I love that too.

I also find it surprising that the Marvel G2 is not mentioned a lot around here, from what I can see. I dug Yaniger's covers and inner artwork.

Oh, something usually pops up in G1 Cartoon/Comic from time-to-time - I'm something of a fan of it too... though I think it got talked to death at one point and people are a bit G2'd out No-one'd kill ya for mentioning i though

Ever considered doing a fan-comic?

I don't have nothing to complain in this pictures, actually I think Optimus looks cute.
Besides I would KILL to draw AT LEAST like that, i can't even draw Wheelie +

And I liked Dreamwaves artwork for Armada and such...

I actually drew my own fan-fics for a while, but never TF. Me and a friend started plans to write and draw an original manga for a Tokyopop contest, but it never got off the ground.

Default Scale

If they are doing the characters by the scale of the toys, I can't wait to see Shockwave towering over "Mighty" Megatron.
