This is all strange. Maybe Hasbro has decided to change a the name because of copyright infingement.

The answer, "It's all a government cover-up! The goverment is actually making real transformers and they're trying to silence the Alternator line. The governments after me and the toaster's been laughin at me!"

All right, fine! I will!

Both Hasbro and Mazda have been making such a big deal out of this Alternator. (Did Subaru or any of the other car companies who are letting Hasbro use Alternators in their vehicle image advertise it on their websites? I don't think so.) With so much attention being placed on this one, it naturally follows that the fans would jump on the bandwagon and start to nitpick about everything from the name to the color. (I mean, just look at this thread. We got people picking it apart without abandon.) To attempt to put on even more heat, they would say anything to get the fandom abuzz about it, and then immediately say the opposite to keep the discussion about it going.

So, when you get right down to it, it's all about marketing.

Excellent observation. That makes perfect sense.

Of course it does.

But seriously, when I said that this Alternator was the most hyped up, some of you were probably thinking that I forgot abotu Smokescreen and how much he was hyped.

Well, I didn't. He was the first one.

He had an excuse. What's the excuse here?

He's powered with Zoom-Zoom instead of Energon? That's about the best excuse I can think of.

Mazda being the first car company to get the idea of cross-promoting the real car and the TF toy?

I meant an excuse to justify the hype, not an excuse excuse.

Why do I get the feeling that's right on the button?

Nostalgia? ****ing? Whoa.. like.. umm.. ya guys do realize that these are Alternators.. right? ya know.. man made car robots? For crimeny.. It looks nowhere near Downshift, It has Camshafts' head and Overdrives color. Just as it had already been pointed out.... when the Transformers jetted away from Cybertron in the first episode of Transformers back in 1984, all the figures were brick looking. Bumblebee resembled what Cosmos ended up being. Starscream and the jets were basically pyramid looking spacecraft. And the rest of the Autobot teams composed of futuristic looking shuttle buses/taxis such as what was used in Total Recall or 6th Day. The only things that truly remained the same were their heads. And Mazda RX-8 Camshaft looks to have pretty near the exact same head as the mail away Omnibot. As well as all the other Alternators. Their heads seem to be the same as well. So whoever started ranting about the trukk not munky bit or diaclone bricks or whatever.. be happy that there still IS a Transformers line and shut the **** up..

I AGREE WITH THAT STATEMENT.
that toy was the total S***,
TO ME it totally kicked Brownings ass.
So he had his crotch stick out a bit, so what?!?! just meant he had alot of package to steal Elita-1 away from Prime...........

I'm happy the new alternator isn't called Camshaft, i personally think it should be called jazz because of the face sculpture.

Also im happy sideswipe isn't a lamborgini, sorry guys i would have wanted him to be that if hasbro wouldnt have used that stupid RID Prowl lamborgini mold over and over again. That basically killed it for me.

Gosh. You even used capital letters...

I'm personally hoping for either Cliffjumper, Jazz, or Windcharger.

Default C'mon Cliffjumper

I really hope its Cliffjumper because he's my favorite and he deserves a newer toy!!! The G1 will always be the best to me though.

As reported here.
That is the official name that came directly from the Hasbro website. It's cut, clean and clear to me that his name is Camshaft. Not an idea.

But we've already questioned whether they did that as a publicity stunt or not. If you read what was stated earlier in this thread starting with one of Nevermore's posts, we aren't sure that the name is Camshaft anymore. It could very well be that TWF2005 is full of copious amounts of horse manure, but we don't (or at least, I don't) know for sure. I would love to know these reliable sources of TWF2005.

Civ.. did you look at that link? It doesn't come from TWF2005, it comes from the customer help section of Hasbro's website.
