I thought for sure Prime and Megatron would be in their. Didn't think they would use Shockwave at all so this is a plus.

My guess is, Prime and Megatron were left off the list because they're pretty much no-brainers.

It looks like comic continuity to me, looks like we may have some writers with a brain who knows what is needed to make a good story

new update from http://www.transformertoys.co.uk/

All G1 characters will be in the movie and appears as it will follow the Marvel comic storylines, or close to that universe.

I was just about to comment on this. I bet they won't have all of them. That seems unpractical, and would cost them a fortune on animation alone.

That is unpractical. That means over like a hundred characters right?

probably more like a couple hundred, G1 has more characters than there is brain capacity for. If they were all going to appear in the movie then that would be half a movie just saying all the names which we dont want

Well, since the movie is going to show The Ark crashing that the movie would focus around the beginnings of the Transformers series. I can't picture Ultra Magnus or Rodimu Prime or Arcee making an appearance unless it's a cameo one on Cybertron. I would tend to think they would stick with characters from the first two waves of toys and maybe some of the better known gestalts like Menosor, Superion, Defensor, and Bruticus.

I don't see why not. Grimlock is one of the most popular characters from the G1 series both comicwise and cartoonwise.

Yeah, but I don't think they can have too many characters. It will be pretty expensive for each transformer.

(To Transfannabeel) Right. So a potential list for the G1 Autobots (those not listed yet):

Optimus Prime (he's gotta be in there, he's the biggest name)
Bumblebee - also popular
Ironhide - he was also pretty popular
Jazz - also very popular
Grimlock - he was the top dino.
Prowl - he was up there in the popularity polls as well.

That's not too many characters that would break the budget, but then again, I don't know how much it costs to animate a computer-generated character.

For the Decepticons, they haven't mentioned Megatron yet, and he was pretty popular as well. Soundwave wasn't mentioned either and he was one of the most popular G1 Deceps in the whole series.

soundwave will probably be in it because ravage is. I'm guessing the other seekers will be in it. I think there will be more characters than that, but I don't think they can have all the characters in season 1 and season 2. I just hope the CGI doesn't look bad.
I'd add Hound,Sideswipe and maybe Sunstreaker to the list. The Decepticons I think would be:
Soundwave
Megatron
Thundercracker
Skywarp
Rumble
Devasator
Laserbeak, along with the ones said in the list.

Now here's the question that will probably stir up a lot of sh*t on this board. Do you think Rumble and Frenzy will be in it? Let's not get into the color issue please, just to avoid a pointless argument.
