edit: this Machines Wars toy...

http://tfu.info/1997/Decepticon/Soundwave/soundwave.htm

...and no, the mould doesn't have a fully functional chest compartment. However, Matt (Jackpot) is just one of the people who've noted that the mould is an extremely credible Cybertronian form for the original character. Also, that toy is the original character, down to the tech spec.

So... what bit of it doesn't fit Soundwave? Unless you're asking us to assume that prior to reawakening on Earth in 1984 and being rebuilt by a malfunctioning Ark into a portable cassette player, ol' blackmail-&-blue-eyes himself turned into a data card reader back home?

edit2: or a lamppost, for preference, in Sunbow continuity...

You'd struggle to fit anything inside the chest of Machine Wars Soundwave, though it is moveable. As I've said, it is the same character, right down to the quote.

Machines Wars was a series given limited release in the US alongside early Beast Wars, featuring military repaints of European moulds from G2.

I'm quite clear on what is fanart and what isn't...

Not very keen on the colours for the latest outing of the mould, personally, though kids will probably feel differently. I do like the way Hasbro are cherry-picking moulds (this choice makes particular sense, since he's Rotorstorm/Sandstorm's equivalent and has the diagram in the probe on his shoulder / tank-form.)

BTW, the 'e' and 'i' keys are on opposite sides of a keyboard.

All I'm saying is to me, it looks more like a tank with a missle launcher. Now, I'm willing to agree with Denyer, that I might be more willing to accept the name with the toy if I had a closer look at it.

Thanks, that means so very much to us that you'll forgive Hasbro and at least consider buying the toy despite the name not "fitting."

You guys are reel funny. Now you try to put words in my mouth. Whats next? No really, I was just complain how IMO (which anal cliffy or Auros can try to shoot down all they want), that it should look like has something to do with sound, not a big missle. That looks like more of a toy for Megs.

I agree with that. I have the Machine Wars toy, and IMO it always seemed like he had a huge missile on his shoulder.

So where's the relevance on the original? I can't see anything on him that would make sound, what with him being a dictaphone without any headphones...

Blaster's designed more with a view to it looking as if he actually has proper speakers. Soundwave was portrayed variously as being a boom box (comics) or a small portable (cartoon, IIRC.)

That thing on his shoulder is unlikely to be a missile, unless you've ever seen missiles with glass nosecones...

You say this as if it means something...

You can still get portable tape players/recorders which you plug headphones or a microphone into. Some even have tiny speakers for radio use. Remember, the Japanese toys were made roughly to scale... Soundwave is a portable, Blaster is a boombox (and hence a lot larger.)

Default Stereo=sound

Stereo usually implies sound.

No, stereo implies a signal.

I have a stereo MP3 player. There's no sound unless you plug headphones or speakers into it. It provides a signal which other hardware converts into audible output.

edit: We can assume that all TFs have radios, and speakers. Otherwise they wouldn't be able to communicate, wouldn't be able to talk, etc. This doesn't mean that the alt-mode Soundwave was designed with has it's own speakers. It probably does... they just aren't clearly indicated on the toy.
