The name's a bit obvious, even if the IP address wasn't.

I'm going to pick this up and review it from the point of view of a non- Beast Wars watcher, I think...

Looks and reads very well and I'm definitely excited about the series now.

Good idea.
After that I'd suggest watching the Beast Wars T.V. show to see how well the comic ties in with it. Or doesn't.

Wow...I'm suitably impressed. Great plot set up, fantastic art work and some decent characterization (sic)! Gotta admit, grinned a bit at the inclusion of their orginal Cybertronian modes.

One question! Is that a version of Prime that Razorbeast is talking to? Reminds me of him! Or am I just being dim?

It's Lio Convoy (who may have a different name or not be named in the mini)...

http://tfarchive.com/cartoons/japane....php#LioConvoy

He's modelled on Prime (and I dimly recall that it's suggested there's a bit more of a link) but isn't categorically stated to be Optimus in a new form, as far as I know. You'd need to ask Spengs or someone who's actually seen the show, though...

I expect that Furman will try to stick to his Last Day Of OP story (behind the scenes, I mean), so he won't throw in any suggestion about Lio Convoy (Lio Primal? ) being G1 OP reformatted.

If you look closely in one of the flashbacks (it's a flashback within a flashback, actually), you'll also see Big Convoy, the character whose mold was reused for Universe Nemesis Prime.

I think both Leo Convoy and Big Convoy are meant to relate to Optimus Prime in the same way as Optimus Primal does. In other words, they took Prime's likeness to honor him. In fact, the Beast Wars Neo TV series also introduced three other Convoys as the Maximal Council of Elders, while the manga showed a "Crow Convoy" (whose head apparently got welded to his head sideways after a botched repair job, a fault Crow Convoy was very self-conscious about).

I doubt the two Convoy's inclusions are little more than an acknowledgement that the two Japanese series exist in some form or manner in the Beast Wars continuity. Consider them little more than Easter eggs.

Otherwise I'd agree, if there wasn't that #3 cover showing Lio Convoy in his Earth lion mode. Well, we'll find out about the situation in 2-4 months.
