Why does he have to be Leo or Lio, really? Plenty of lions to pick from:

Steeljaw
Razorclaw
Prowl (part of Magnaboss)
Snarl

Not to mention other tf names that could be used, if they're looking to preserve trademarks. Even Catilla would be a better name.

I suspect it's more that people don't know what "convoy" means.

"The act of escorting while in transit" / "Escort in transit"

i.e. Protecting others, trusted with role. Related to "envoy" and "convey".

Oh, I didn't know that definition of "convoy." That actually isn't that bad then.

I was thinking of the other three or four definitons. But I didn't know this one...which happens to be the first (not sure if numerical order actually means anything in a dictionary or not, though):

4. a ship, fleet, group of vehicles, etc., accompanied by a protecting escort.

6. any group of military vehicles traveling together under the same orders.

7. Citizens Band Radio Slang. two or more CB-equipped vehicles traveling together.

But this one makes it good for Optimus Prime:

5. an armed force, warship, etc., that escorts, esp. for protection.

So...I stand corrected.

Because that's what the color scheme is a homage to; Lio Convoy. Of course, most western fans don't even know who/what Convoy is, so Leo Prime is pretty much an americanized name of Lio Convoy.

I know that, but they didn't call Cybertron Scourge "Flame Prime" in the US. Really, If you're going to use Prime in the name, both Leo and Lio sound awful. Might as well just rename him, anyway.

They called him Scourge because he was the only evil Convoy in the show.

It's really no different from Optimus Primal...though that gives me an idea: Optimus Feral would've been a kickass name.

Excatly, and I was expecting to call him Scourge the second I found out about Flame Convoy. I just don't see the point of Americanizing the name if it's going to sound so awful. They didn't Americanize any of thhe other convoy names, in Cybertron either (aside from the obvious Optimus Prime).

I dunno. Primal sound a lot better than Leo/Lio Prime. I think it's just that I hate the prefex Leo- in regards to transformer names. Leobreaker was a horrible name.

Yeah, Optimus Feral would be a much better name. Wasn't there talk of a followup to BM where someone mentioned Cheetor taking that name? I don't know if it was official or just fan speculation, but I feel like I've heard the name before.

Prolly gonna get Jetfire, so won't need fireflight, but the other two look to be worth picking up, as I don't have CD Red Alert or Leobreaker.

Lio Convoy did got a US release, at the Hasbro Collectors site, about 7 years ago, and I suppose that most adult fans (that did not just started collecting) heard of Lio Convoy by now

Thumbs down

And if they haven't, they're really not missing much. Big 'ol lion head on the shoulder gets in the way, as do the lion arms that just kinda hang off the forearms, and the figure looks like he was run over by a steamroller.

Unless you did as I did and waited for the Robot masters mold, A much nicer version in bot mode (kitty mode kinda stinks with the long hind legs and stumpy fore legs but still

Well I don't acctually see the meaning in having a homage too a character US kids havn't seen before (unless they've moved there from japan). as far as I've heard classics will be an hasbro only release right ? Or will takara get its share of the deal ?

Hasbro reissued Powermaster Prime with the Godbomber trailer as well as Stepper ("Ricochet"), both of whom were Japanese exclusives up to that point.

They also released Sunstorm as a HoC PVC despite the character having only been an e-Hobby exclusive fanwank repaint of Starscream prior to that.

They even brought over the Overlord SCF as HoC Gigatron (although the original Overlord toy was released by Hasbro in Europe in 1991).

They also brought over Galaxy Force Longrack, who's an homage to a Japanese Beast Wars Neo character, and even kept the NAME for the US release.

Universe King Atlas was an homage to Dai Atlas from Zone.

Ah, so they did improve the figure with the RM release. Coolness. Yeah, I ended up getting him in a lot with Megastorm (I think that's the bugger's name. I just use him as G2 megs, anywho), BW Galvatron and Japanese Shadowpanther. I was only looking for Megs, but with a BIN of $40 for four figures, it was a steal.

Then, a repaint of Armada Thrust, LOC Starscream, and now, a minicon. He must be right popular with the kids, since they keep on releasing him (the only version I have is the Thrust repaint, mainly because I like the Thrust mold).
