Default Stupid Angry Christians

So I'm watching the Fox News and there is a controversy over the "Easter Bunny". Seems some anti religious group is offended by the Easter part. Like the "Christmas tree" being called a holiday tree, these people should get over it. call it a Christmas tree, call it an Easter bunny.

Those folks need to lighten up.

but on the flip side the wiener who was defending the the Easter bunny didn't acknowledge that the "Bunny" and the "Tree" parts were added into the Christian celebration by pagans. In the US it's " circle the wagons" before a single thought is fired.

Personally I'm an atheist and all religions are an excuse to divide people and collect money. But I also love the fun of the holiday traditions of our country. I like Christmas and Christmas trees, I like Easter and Easter bunnies. I like gospel churches singing and having fun.

if these anti-religious groups want to focus on getting god out of the public, then get "in god we trust" off of the money and "one nation, under god" out of the pledge, leave the damn bunnies and trees alone.

There are real religious issues in our country. like catholic priests covering up illegal activity and a brewing Muslim/Christian world war.

Come on and wind me up.

That's probably because the Christian rites were added into the tree and bunny parts, not the other way around (at least for the tree part, can't remember anything particular to do with rabbits off the top of my head... dimly recall the Eastre goddess thing being a bit of a retcon, but the symbolism of new life / sex / prolific mammals isn't anything new...)

I would like to see what would happen if they tried to commercialize a non-Christian Holiday, like the Ramadan Bush, or the Yom-Kippur Monkey.

That, and I can picture a secularized Ramadan involving a very, very, large feast.

Hmmm . . . I was expecting something along the lines of Christians doing something ****ty, rather than some dispute over a bunny, where it looks like both sides are being stupid and angry.

All in all, anyone whose caught up over a damn rabbit or a tree has completely missed the point of the holiday to begin with . . . a Christian should ask "Would Jesus care if the Easter Bunny no longer had 'Easter' in his name, or would he rather I remember what He did for mankind on that day?"

I suppose you run low on things to moan about after 20-odd centuries. I can see the gripe with commercialism side on the 'thou shalt have no other gods before me' level though, but yea, killing the messenger wotnot...

Holidays always meant time off for me, being dragged to church to sing carols and hear some guy waffle on isn't my idea of holy. actually now that I think of it, 'summer holidays' doesn't make any sense... ahhh... unless idleness is holy...

... i've just rediscovered my faith

edit : happy Lupercalia to you too.

Holidays (Eid) start when Ramadan ends. I recommend you picture the other Eid (Hajj) when everyone sacrifices esculent animals, especially goats.

Why does Scourge always get my point across faster and better than I could've done?

I would challenge your explanation except I think that it's a scientific fact, like being exposed to Dalek turns everything into a double-entoundre.

True. Specifically those who pose questions such as "What use is 10% of a wing?" not because they misunderstand or are unaware of the reasoning that fractionally slower falling promotes survival, but because it's a visual metaphor to rally those who do fail to grasp the reasoning behind.

Intelligence and curiosity are both relatively harmless, twinned with some appreciation for others -- i.e. not throwing someone a burning tennis ball to see if they reflexively catch it.

Intelligence + a cause + enough belief that anything's justified in that cause = time to book travel off-planet.

It's an argument-by-simplification against specialised organs developing through natural selection. The premise being that something as complicated as a wing or eye is "useless" if it doesn't appear fully formed and of the same utility as to a modern creature.

When in fact a lot of organisms find skin flaps useful for lessening impact or gliding, even plants find basic light awareness useful, etc. Things can develop very slowly whilst still providing a slight advantage and thus being passed on.
