[16:24] awa64: People are yelling for Dew-Bot/"Dispensor."
[16:24] awa64: Pic of an Osprey Helicopter onscreen
[16:25] awa64: Incinerator. Based on the osprey at the beginning of hte mvoie.
[16:25] awa64: Jeep-ish looking thing. Sector Seven dune buggy.
[16:25] awa64: Landmine.
[16:25] awa64: Stockade. Sector Seven Van.
[16:26] awa64: Osprey was chopper, then the next two were deluxes.
[16:26] awa64: Desert Attack Brawl. Tan and teal.
[16:26] awa64: "X" markings for Autobot kills.

[16:27] awa64: Blue and Black, with silver flames.
[16:27] awa64: BW ROBOT HEROES
[16:27] awa64: BW Megs, G1 Galvatron.
[16:27] awa64: Two other guys I can't quite identify. One might be Cheetor.
[16:27] awa64: Oh--fourth one's a Dinobot.
[16:28] awa64: TRANSFORMERS ANIMATED
[16:28] awa64: (Other stuff coming out too. Mentioned earlier.)
[16:28] awa64: (10-12 new Movie Toys by Spring.)
[16:28] awa64: So. TF ANIMATED
[16:29] awa64: Partnership between Hasbro and Cartoon Network from muchly the start.
[16:30] awa64: Taking a new approach to get a better timeslot. Get kids to actually see the show.
[16:30] awa64: Using the movie as a jumping-off point for accepting new look.
[16:30] awa64: "After you see what we have today, most of your initial concerns should be alleviated."
[16:31] awa64: Eric's been running the show on Animated.
[16:31] awa64: Agenda: 1) What's it about. 2) Style/tone. 3) Toys. 4) Future. 5) Q&A.
[16:31] awa64: 6) SIZZLE REEL
[16:32] awa64: -New 2008 cartoon. 3 ep mini-movie in January. Show starts later in January and continues through from there.
[16:32] awa64: Partnering with CN, production stateside once again.
[16:33] awa64: "Partnership with CN has been great, from directors to character/prop/bg designers, writers, producer--all great."
[16:33] awa64: "These guys are fans of Transformers. More knowledgable than the design team about the geeky stuff. Plenty of easter eggs."
[16:33] awa64: New style and tone is purposeful. Things needed to be freshened up, diversified.
[16:34] awa64: More relatable stories and characters.
[16:34] awa64: Original name WAS Heroes, going for a more simple story, more heroic stuff.
[16:34] awa64: New possibilities for the toys.
[16:34] awa64: Not going to lose tradition, but moving foreward.
[16:34] awa64: Showing the press release again.
[16:35] awa64: "Kid-Relatable != Dumbing Down"
[16:35] awa64: Means more that "hey, there'll be humor and character-based stuff."
[16:35] awa64: Great action scenes.
[16:35] awa64: Specifically taking place more in cities, to show people's reactions to Transformers on earth. Less Robots in Disguise, more Fish Out Of Water.
[16:36] awa64: Writing Style: "Episodic, but ties into an overall arc."
[16:36] awa64: "Smaller cast of Autobots with strong character development for all of them."
[16:36] awa64: "Action driven, with humor." "Major focus on personality and abilities." "Rich action sequences." "Familiar and new characters."
[16:37] awa64: "A return to the kind of style and characterization we had during the Beast Wars days."
[16:37] awa64: "Most characters have special abilities--are kinda superheroes."
[16:38] awa64: "Think like Hound and Mirage from G1."
[16:38] awa64: "Human supervillains and Decepticon villains."
[16:38] awa64: Diversifying from just Decepticons, adding human villains, to allow the Decepticons to be a BIGGER threat than the Humans.
[16:39] awa64: "When Megatron shows up, it's going to be a big deal."
[16:39] awa64: When there's a Human supervillain, there's usually a Decepticon pulling the strings.
[16:40] awa64: Artistic style: "Highly stylized and fluid animation, more energetic and expressive bots, major focus on personality and abilities, grow from mechanical to emotive designs, familiar and new characters, realistic and stylized Transformers."
[16:40] awa64: Cybertron robots looked great, but when they talked, their lips flapped and nothing else--no emotion.
[16:41] awa64: Working to get strong, emotive expressions.
[16:41] awa64: "Realistic and stylized Transformations."
[16:41] awa64: Re: the Tazmanian Devil transformations... yeah, they'll happen, but it won't be continual. It'll be a bit different every time.
[16:42] awa64: Handled like G1 when you see bots transforming. Will be consistant with toy transformations, though.
[16:42] awa64: CHARACTER DESIGN AREA
[16:42] awa64: Model sheets from G1. Pulled strings to get 'em in. Autobots start.
[16:42] awa64: Prime. He's got a mouth.
[16:42] awa64: Cybertronian modes in the opening movie!
[16:42] awa64: TOYS OF CYBERTRONIAN MODES
[16:43] awa64: Prime has face shield up and down. Toys have it both ways. Face shield down most of the time in the show, pops up for fights.
[16:43] awa64: Earth mode Prime. Fiyah truck. Trailer--sometimes with, sometimes without. Will be kinda like G1 with the trailer just going away.
[16:43] awa64: Bumblebee. Looks awesome.
[16:44] awa64: Youngest Autobot, most energetic, earth-friendly.
[16:44] awa64: Bulkhead. Big strong guy. Like we saw on the poster. Looks great.
[16:44] awa64: Biggest analog: The Thing from Fantastic Four.
[16:44] awa64: Likes to use a giant wrecking ball.
[16:44] awa64: Prowl. Ninja bike.
[16:44] awa64: "Kung-fu parody Autobot."
[16:44] awa64: "Resident Ninja."
[16:45] awa64: Likes nature, etc.
[16:45] awa64: Ratchet.
[16:45] awa64: Beer gut.
[16:45] awa64: "He's been packing away too many donuts." Most seasoned autobot, only one that was in the military. Veteran.
[16:45] awa64: R. Lee Ermy-based characterization.
[16:45] awa64: Still a medic.
[16:45] awa64: Connecting the designs somewhat to the film, but no direct lifts. Touch-points in the deco, etc.
[16:46] awa64: GRILMOCK
[16:46] awa64: ****IN' GRIMLOCK.
[16:46] awa64: "You thought we were only going to let there be five autobots in this cartoon?"
[16:46] awa64: Two other Dinobots. Not being shown today.
[16:46] awa64: "Three crazy dudes, let me tell you that."
[16:46] awa64: Now, the Decepticons.
[16:47] awa64: Megatron. Badass.
[16:47] awa64: BIG-A** GUN ARM.
[16:47] awa64: Head looks movie-inspired.
[16:47] awa64: Cybertronian mode.
[16:47] awa64: "When the show first starts."
[16:47] awa64: "By the end of the series, he'll look completely different. YOu'll be pleased."
[16:47] awa64: Starscream. ALSO AWESOME.
[16:48] awa64: "His character is pretty much what it's always been. Latta-esque voice from Tom Kenny. Doing an amazing job."
[16:48] awa64: BLITZWING
[16:48] awa64: "We've been working for two years to get this guy into the line."
[16:48] awa64: A new spin--still Triplechanger, but throwing in a fun personality quirk.
[16:49] awa64: Split personality, too.
[16:49] awa64: "Similar to another familiar toyline--he'll have different faces. Like Man-E Faces in He-Man. Face gimmick."
[16:49] awa64: Lugnut. This guy's basically the Incredible Hulk.
[16:49] awa64: Looks like a giant purple cargo transport.
[16:50] awa64: "Megatron's most loyal servant."
[16:50] awa64: Believes blindly in the Decepticons. Has missiles for hands.
[16:50] awa64: "A lot happens when he punches you."
[16:50] awa64: BLACKARACHNIA.
[16:50] awa64: I **** YOU NOT BLACKARACHNIA
[16:50] awa64: Looks a bit like TM2 in face design and BM in body design.
[16:51] awa64: A bit of a different origin than in BW. Good, complex villain.
[16:51] awa64: Human characters.
[16:51] awa64: "Cpt. Fanzone." "Sari and Isaac Sumdac."
[16:51] awa64: What city would be complete without a police chief (Fanzone). Most common characters, Sari and her father Isaac.
[16:52] awa64: Involved in story, hard to get into now.
[16:52] awa64: "Sari's interaction with the Autobots is nothing like what we've done in the past three shows." <Peanut Gallery: "Limited?">
[16:52] awa64: Won't be telling the robots from space what to do.
[16:52] awa64: Sari looks cute.
[16:52] awa64: Human villains.
[16:53] awa64: Upper-left-hand guy: The Angry Archer.
[16:53] awa64: Aaron Archer dressed like Robin Hood.
[16:53] awa64: Human villains have superpowers, for a large part.
[16:53] awa64: "Some just look really good in a pimp suit."
[16:53] awa64: "We'll talk about that later."
[16:54] awa64: THE ARK.
[16:54] awa64: "Some things in the show are heavily-inspired by G1. This is one."
[16:54] awa64: Audience starts asking "Toy?"
[16:54] awa64: Bridge of the Ark looks cool. A bit Batcave-y, but cool.
[16:54] awa64: NEMESIS (Decepticon Ship)
[16:55] awa64: "The scale difference between the Decepticons and Autobots are reallhy huge. The Nemesis DWARFS the Ark."
[16:55] awa64: Nemesis interior looks like the inside of the Death Star Throne Room, glowing purple, with giant Decepticon logos.
[16:56] awa64: City of detroit. A bit of some... um... out-of-place futuristic stuff, but otherwise city.
[16:56] awa64: "Droidtroit. They make robots there now."
[16:56] awa64: Tower in the middle: Sumdac Tower.
[16:56] awa64: Some trees. Looks quite cool.
[16:56] awa64: "What will the toys look like?"
[16:57] awa64: -Developed at same time as animation designs. -Animation style allows to show more personality. -90% Animation/Toy Accuracy.
[16:57] awa64: -New sculpting style.
[16:57] awa64: -NO MORE FULL LINE GIMMICKS WOO.
[16:57] awa64: "Takara's been a big help."
[16:57] awa64: -TRANSFORMATION IS THE GIMMICK
[16:57] awa64: "Signature weapons and poses--attitude and stance"
[16:57] awa64: "Large range of motion"
[16:58] awa64: "There's some stuff that we can' tinclude in toys. We need joints, for example."
[16:59] awa64: WOO. Prime looks GREAT.
[16:59] awa64: Deluxe and Voyager (Cybertronian and Earth, respectively).
[17:00] awa64: Faces match up well to animated model. Stance and proportions of robots is nice.
[17:00] awa64: Bumblebee looks so cute! Bulkhead looks pretty damn cool.
[17:00] awa64: They look like their animation models, and still successfully transform.
[17:00] awa64: Sweet.
[17:01] awa64: Prowl and Ratchet look great too. Really look like the animation models, but still transform and look great and accurate in both modes.
[17:02] awa64: GRIMLOCK. Takara's prelim work. 3D model.
[17:02] awa64: Autocad drawing in the middle. Looks pretty good.
[17:02] awa64: Megatron toy. Big ****in' gun. Head's movie-ey. Vehicle mode is a VTOL spacefighter.
[17:03] awa64: Lugnut and Blitzwing. Lugnut looks great. A bit Blackout-inspired in the toy, it seems.
[17:03] awa64: Blitzwing's still in-progress, but Takara's working on him double-time.
[17:03] awa64: Blackarachnia. Looks fantastic.
[17:04] awa64: "Once Takara sent this model to us, I was playing with it every day."
[17:04] awa64: -Working on Season 2 already. More familiar and new characters.
[17:04] awa64: -Possibility of Season 3 and 4. Desire to create brand-new characters... with cameos by G1 favorites.
[17:04] awa64: Giving characters unique sillhouettes.
[17:04] awa64: Giving them a BTAS-toy style matte finish.
[17:05] awa64: Not full character list for S1 yet. (S1 = first 13 eps.)
[17:05] awa64: S2 confirmed, second 13. Seasons 3 and 4 aren't confirmed but at this point likely.
[17:06] awa64: SIZZLE ROLLS NOW
[17:06] awa64: Marty Isenberg, head writer/story editor.
[17:07] awa64: Matrix-ey looking Allspark. Autobots find it in Detroit and have to protect it.
[17:07] awa64: OPTIMUS HAS A BIG ****IN' AXE. MEGATRON HAS A KATANA.
[17:07] awa64: Moon base?
[17:08] awa64: Transformations look fine. Even the Taz-style one was good.
[17:09] awa64: Sizle reel uses METALLICA.
[17:11] awa64: Fall 08.
[17:11] awa64: THE RETURN OF CLASSICS
[17:11] awa64: LAMBO BROS
[17:11] awa64: "Transformers Universe". Classics 2.0.
[17:11] awa64: I think.
[17:12] awa64: "Extending a realistic-ish look from the Movie with the Classics we got last year."
[17:12] awa64: OK. Yeah, Universe as umbrella for the non-animated stuff.
[17:12] awa64: Deluxe-scale Sunstreak and Sideswipe.
[17:12] awa64: Realistic-style, but no license.
[17:13] awa64: Showed with same chest, but that won't be the case in final version..
[17:13] awa64: OCTANE
[17:13] awa64: "We're going to have every Triple-Changer available, slowly."
[17:14] awa64: "Looking at adding Ultra scale to the deluxs we've already been showing."
[17:15] awa64: TF:A will get the kind of licensing we get for an animated series. Licensing for the Classics 2.0 stuff too.
[17:15] awa64: New G1-ish style guide for new shirts etc.
[17:17] awa64: "Not a continuation of the movie, because that's owned by Paramount/Dreamworks."
[17:17] awa64: Grimlock is a voyager.
[17:18] awa64: yup
[17:18] awa64: "Animated Toys, most likely, will be out in March. Movie line continues through next summer."
[17:18] awa64: Proper dinosaur stance, clearly.
[17:19] awa64: "No mini-cons in Fall 08. Maybe Spring 09."
[17:19] awa64: "We're going to do more Robot Heroes, if they do well among collectors.
[17:19] awa64: We'll evaluate sales, and make decisions a few months down the line."
[17:20] awa64: "Can I ask for an Ultra Magnus that isn't a Prime rebate? Yes."
[17:22] awa64: "Ballpark on new Classics: Fall '08, 4-6 deluxe, still working out Ultra."
[17:22] awa64: Replacing Voyager with Ultra in Classics.
[17:22] awa64: 3-ish of those. Possibly up to 8 deluxes.
[17:23] awa64: "Jazz is likely. Still trying to figure out if Arcee's going to make the cut."
[17:24] awa64: Optimus Prime's trailer transforms into his axe in the Animated toys.
[17:24] awa64: "If characters are in Animated, they won't be done in Classics."
[17:25] awa64: "Arcee as car, not bike, if you do her?" "We'll see."
[17:26] awa64: "Those unproduced Titaniums as club exclusive?" "No tooling, so probably not, but we'll investigate it. We could turn them into Classics."
[17:26] awa64: "Next week, we're going to re-evaluate where we are, now that we've seen the film, and we'll be looking at making Dewbot/Dispensor."
[17:27] awa64: "Going to inventory everything we're working on, make choices there."
[17:28] awa64: "Would it be possible for Transformers: Animated to get Thundercracker?" "Not ruled out, still on the table."
[17:31] awa64: "Looking into Classics Prowl. Largely aiming at easily-redeco-able toys."
[17:31] awa64: IRONHIDE
[17:31] awa64: They're going to do Classics Ironhide. Definitely.
[17:32] awa64: Sue Blu's voice director again for Animated. Animated team are old-school fans, looking into stuff.
[17:33] awa64: Weird Al's confimred as doing a character... but not a product planned at this point.
[17:34] awa64: "Can we have the club Thundercracker in Classics 2.0?" "No, and **** you for asking."
[17:35] awa64: "The thing about an exclusive is that they're exclusive and they're desirable."
[17:39] awa64: "We can't find the molds for the G1 Dinobots anymore. They're gone."
[17:39] awa64: "Will Sideswipe and Sunstreaker have different heads? Yes."
[17:39] awa64: "Will we get a grey repaint of Astrotrain? We haven't talked about it. We didn't think that Astrotrain got all that strong a response. We might try to do an exclusive, but it's not high on the list."
[17:44] awa64: "The Dinobots' grammar will be familiar to you.
[17:45] awa64: "Next time, can we wait until we see it in movement and in context before we start b****ing about it? You can save us a lot of time and keyboard energy. Just trust us."
[17:45] awa64: "You sent Eric into a deep depression for two weeks."
[17:47] awa64: "Playset? Like, the Ark or something?" "I think we have something clever coming up in the next year-and-a-half that blends a playset concept with the bigger robots we usually go with and that's all we should really say about that right now."
[17:48] awa64: Bulkhead's a voyager, Ratchet's a deluxe.
[17:49] awa64: Aaron's favorite: Lockdown. "Our equivilant of Boba Fett. A bounty hunter."
[17:49] awa64: Classics Galvatron that's not a Megatron redeco. Woo.

Well I'm not getting my hopes up. Seriously, of all the upcoming toys, that Shockwave is the one that truly has "must have" value as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe Cosmos too, but nowhere near as much as Shockwave.

Well, if they can successfully retool those figures out of only plastic, they could easily see life as new Classic deluxes for this fall.

Yeah, I was at the panel during the unveiling. People were going nuts for the new Classics figures and apparently. Also of note for the Sunstreaker images -- he will have those two air intakes like the G1 toy but they will turn into guns he can hold in his hands.

that makes sense honestly about the air intakes. and i am assuming you are meaning the ones along the roofline and towards the engine compartment right? i always wondered what those did, i only own the first season of g1 on dvd, and i only saw those really in the labo form and never in use anywhere else really. outstanding Cosmos toy too!!! i love it, its about time the lil ufo gets a decent toy!

edit: i also notice brawl has a lot more details in the larger version, i like it better that way. he is at least to scale with a lot of the tf's now with the exception of mr. blackout. i can't wait to see if they make a larger version of him, i want to see what other details are missed by the toy being scaled down so.

Shame about Alternators

presumably that means they won't even squeeze a few more repaints out of the moulds ?

Shockwave, by the looks of it, transforms into his classic gun mode...which brings about a whole lot of new problems, even if it's a wholly unrealistic gun.

As far as I know, there was no word about that at Botcon though I did miss quite a few panels; however, the display cases did not show any Alternators.

It's part tooling (Alternators have a LOT of parts), also the licensing fees and all that legal stuff involved. I've gotten the impression for awhile now that Hasbro's been wanting to let Alternators go, despite it's popularity with collectors. It's just too much trouble.

I get the idea that Hasbro is going more and more for all-child audience while Takara remains faithful to the collectors...speaking of which, whatever happened to Binaltechs?

Binaltech is pretty much dead, with a few smattering pieces being released as special exclusives. Same issues as with Alternators, really.

One thing I'm confused on, the language for Classics/Universe seems to indicate that it's THIS fall, starting between the end of the Movie figures coming out and next spring, when the Cartoon figures come out - but then promptly says 2008? Can we get clarification on this?

Er, how? Hasbro said they're planning more Classics for fall of 2008, while Takara is selling transforming shoes.

Takara still releases reissues. Albeit it'd be nice if they released characters that haven't already been reissued...

So? They're not pandering to collectors by releasing four toys that have already been released at least three times each in the last four years alone.
