... you're suggesting that I actually correct Wikis myself rather than laughing at the inaccuracies?

The ones I like (not seen it on the TF one yet, I should stress) is when people put things like "it's spelt 'chassis'" on the talk oage, instead of just correcting it in the article...

Well my spelling is pants. Feel free to correct any errors.

As for the wiki, I'm quite new to having internet (strange as it sounds) so it was one of the first sites I came across, along with tfu info, 2005 boards and this site. I found the humour quite pleasant and refreshing as its always fun to take a step back and have a laugh.

Anything about Transformers in general interests me (except kiss players I think thats a bit to strange for even my peverse tastes)
I'll read it anyways.

Interesting to here about rivalries between boards. Well everyone can't be expected to get on all the time.

And they have been fighting till time in the morning!

Man, those toy swapping stories would be funny if they weren't true

That's just horrible.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and someone decided that Unicron is a decepticon because his Cybertron/Titanium toys came with a decepticon logo over at the regular wikipedia.

It's problematic, because if you try to write something humorous some d**khead might read it as vandalism and revert it. So it seems you have to belong to an inner circle jerk of wankers to post on it.

This is why Wikipedia works, and this doesn't.

Wow. The links section I edited in yonks ago is still there.

[edit] Ehhh, this is still there as well. [/edit]

My slightly more wandering timeline of that...

"Pat was approached by Wizard magazine, the standard-bearer of mainstream American comics, to lay some illustrations for its ’80s nostalgia edition. The subject: the Transformers"
http://theculturalgutter.com/comics/trans_action.html

G.I. Joe was already doing well:
"we didn’t have the license yet. We were in full pitch mode. Gi-Joe had just come out from Devil’s Due and was a complete smash"
http://transfans.net/interviews_raiz.php

DW secures license around December 13th 2001:
http://tformers.com/New-Transformers.../130/news.html

Very old ezBoard DW forum still online:
http://p201.ezboard.com/fdreamwave99389frm23

One of the first interviews:

Jan 2002, DW noted as using Comic Bon-Bon art references:
http://www.seibertron.com/infozone/a...&article_id=61

Feb 2002, DWG1V1#1 to top chart:
http://tformers.com/Dreamwave-Sets-C.../244/news.html
(And rode it for a full six months, IIRC.)

Feb 2003, Wizard talk inaccurately as usual:

April 2002:

...and the rest at --

Hasbro reissues, planned previously, hit shelves:
http://tfarchive.com/toys/checklists...a_reissues.php
(In response to success of G.I. Joe reissues + comics, at a guess.)

Nov 2002, Dreamwave apparently didn't tell Diamond they only had the North US license, and Diamond were showcasing them:
"To recap, at September’s Frankfurt Book Fair in Germany, Hasbro approached Diamond Comics Distribution representatives and told them that they had to remove all of Dreamwave’s Transformers material from their booth, and informed them that they were not authorized to sell Transformers product outside of North America. As a result, Diamond had to cancel all orders to all overseas accounts for future Dreamwave Transformer comics."
http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=580
(IIRC, Panini has the UK license then for its Armada book, and Titan have the reprint license for trade paperbacks of old stuff. I figure international license holders must have been bugging Hasbro for quite a while before they stepped in at the German retailer fair...)

End of 2002, Tom's not very gentle breakdown of DWG1:

James talks about his Brad Mick identity in the 3rd person (Mar 04):
"Our TF team has a great understanding of the property, Mick and Patyk live and breathe the world of TF and it's awesome to have these guys tackle the TF universe with their knowledge on the property."

Dreamwave "now the fifth-largest comic publisher in North America":

Dreamwave 'Adds' Creators in response to delays, no new people actually added, PR cover-up [Saraccini, Furman, Lee those named]:
http://seibertron.com/news/view.php?id=4198

End of Nov, 2004:
"We have a dispute with Dreamwave regarding our departure. We are owed a significant amount of unpaid fees which are being claimed"

Closure press release, Jan 04:
"the shrinking comic book market combined with a weak U.S. dollar and unsustainable monetary commitments has finally proven to be too financially taxing"
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/pres...ons-shuts-down

Dreamwave planned to cut and run:
"In fact, as of this week Dreamwave assets and employees were shifting over to a new company called DreamEngine, started by Roger Lee, Pat's brother. The dreamengine.ca domain was registered in Roger's name on the 9th of December [2004]"
http://www.comicbookresources.com/co...i?article=2059

Content-less Lee postmortem:
"we didn't have as much time to plan the process as we would have preferred." (see above about cutting and running)

McDonough & Patyk postmortem:

G1 #14 promo copy from somewhere, still with McD/Patyk attached:
http://www.tfarchive.com/comics/drea...g1_vol_3_unpub

List of DW creditors:
"over a quarter of a million, is owed to creators."
http://www.comicbookresources.com/co...g&article=2102

Rumour that Devil's Due has the license:
http://www.comicbookresources.com/columns/?column=13

McDonough & Patyk suggest with an increasing lack of subtlety that it's IDW's fault fans aren't getting the rest of DWG1:
"perhaps one may want to wonder why the various parties in play would be alienating the fans (many of whom have been quite vocal about their interest in the work and its continuation) by denying them access"
My take on:
"for anyone looking to reprint or continue that's an initial investment of $44,686 [just for two writers]"

The thing about the Transformers Wiki is that it's probably written by all sorts of people who weren't responsible for anything officially Transformers.

But maybe that's for the best: wouldn't you question the ego of someone who wrote gushing entries in praise of THEIR OWN efforts?

Maybe we would learn, for example, that Optimus' chest was always supposed to the drawn that way ... but early artist were simply prudes afraid of "the woman".

Anyway, it's probably bad form for someone to write up their own work anyway. Canon or fanfic/fanart alike.

So will someone please read my book, write a glowing review and then share it with millions? I mean, I would NEVER want to seem full of myself.

Because actual Wikipedia is full of people officially involved with the articles they're writing. It's a damn guideline that you shouldn't have any bloody involvment with what you're writing about. Less potential for hilarious eye-glazing segues, I know...

Featuring at least one respected mod ardently defending the thing

Comic copy for the "unpublished" bits were c'n'p-ed from DecepticonMatrixOneStopCrookStore.com, which I'm guessing were Diamond solicits. Stuff below the "----" is generally my supposition. I think it even predates unpbulished pages becoming particularly widespread. Hmmm, whole comic guide [as in Marvel/DW] is creaking around the edges a little. Must find time to tweak/correct...

I was always curious about that seeing as he told us racists numerous times that Pat is a hardworking man and he deserved his success.

Anyway, he posts on the boards that didn't banned him yet as DaRonin. I saw him at IDW's (old) board.

-Okay, the bomb's dropped. Life goes on. No amount of sulking or worrying changes that. We've got our own lives to live. In that regard, in five minutes time, I am using the autopilot on the Midnight Runner and taking it down the pub. If I go on my own, I go on my own.
-Well. Wait up, you horrible English git. While I'm around, you don't have to go anywhere on your own.
And, one by one, the others follow.
And, one by one, they begin to smile.
