Did the issues with the original DVD get sorted out for one of the budget reissues? The way everyone suddenly starts going on about Action Force half way through is a tad jarring...

I like that the movie plans to have a british based terrorist organisation called Cobra when there's actually a british based government organisation called COBRA.

First time you see them at a later age. If drunk. And pretty jolly to begin with. The whole Cobra Commander/Roadbuster thing just goes on too long to stay funny even in one viewing, and after that there's just the slightly trippy fittings of Cobra-La to amuse...

No, I don't think Roadbuster had a thing for Roadblock...

Ooh, Snake-Eyes (who, let's face it, puts even the fanwankiest of TF characters to shame in the love he gets) has been cast:

Ray Park

Sadly, as SE is a mute (yeah? maybe?), this means less work for Peter Serafinowicz.

Heh, that's funny. Seven or so years ago, Wizard did a casting call special for a GI Joe movie and they picked Ray Park for Snake-Eyes.

Now let's just hope no more of their selections come true and we don't wind up with Pink as Zarana.

I'd actually go see it if Pink was in it.

1) A ****ing WAYANS BROTHER???? Kill me now.

2) Which one was Ripcord?

http://www.yojoe.com/magazine/2008/01/02f.shtml

Mr Eko is Heavy Duty. Or maybe Roadblock.

And Said Taghmaoui is Breaker. He's the one that got sent back in time or something in an episode of the cartoon? I have dim memories of the whole thing. Gingerish beard?

Aaah. Right. Yeah, still none the wiser...

Question

So does anyone know if that Empire report is right and the lead character actually is going to be a GI called Joe? Or are they just making an assumption based on the name and it's still going to be Duke?

That one.

They admit to not being familiar with the material.

Or it may be a joke.

Damn, I was hoping they'd rename him G.I. A. Force in the UK version...

Well, as the original G.I. Joe comic went on, they introduced Joe Colton as the original commander of the JFK-created G.I. Joe unit. The character was a tribute to the original, taller Joe figure from the 60's and 70's; and he eventually received a couple of 3 3/4" figures, at least one of which was called "G.I. Joe". (Come to think of it - he was the bearded guy in that last Joe/TF crossover.) So, theoretically, there could be an actual titular character; but yeah, just as likely they're just attempting to make a funny.

Ripcord saw some substantial page time in the comic, in issues numbered in the 30s and 40s. He had an ill-fated romance with Bongo the Balloon Bear (...no, seriously) (okay, she was soon also known as Candy), whose father turned out to be a lead Crimson Guardsman. He did also lead the Joes to Cobra's covert base of Springfield. I don't recall him doing much in the cartoon.

to the casting of Mr. Eko, I think; quite good actor. Oh, and, yeah, while the figure's filecards didn't always mention it, Snake Eyes is (so far, at least) a mute character; so it looks like one more non-speaking role for Mr. Park - and with more make-up, in likelihood, if Snakes gets unmasked.

So the original Joes was all about sex, drugs and hookers? That rocks!
