that intro on the statue of liberty was soemthing wasnt it? I mean i seen that movie on vhs when i was a kid and remembered nothing about it beyond that intro. I watched it again about two years ago and I was really pumped after watching the awesome intro only to find out the rest of the movie is ridiculous.

Mind you, the Statue bit is also ridiculous, so it's fair warning in that regard.

Are the joes like the dreadlocks or cobra who all come from other countries? All except good ol Commander. Why wasn't he the main baddie? What is wrong with those hollywooders? Destro better not be black unless they want a racial issue there. It might not be so bad if Roadblock were his main enemy.Cobra Commander should be the main baddie and Flint and HAwk should be the heroes. Don't forget romance with lady Jaye.

They want a Movie that will make as much money worldwide as Transformers- And as the rest of the World doesn't give a toss about GI Joe in general nor wacky Americans fighting terrorists with sill code names in particular they've tweaked the format a bit.

Do you really have any idea what you're talking about?

You're worried about the racial connotation of having a black villain, yet at the same time implying you want them to go with the original premise of "all the heroes are big brave Americans, whilst all the villains are comedy foreigner stereotypes"?

They're going the Duke/Scarlett route, rather than Flint/Jaye. One is no more "real" than the other. And technically, iirc, Duke outranks Flint anyway.

For the record, Destro has been cast. It's some British stage actor called David Murray. Which is promising, because it makes it sound like they've given the role to somebody who can actually play it, rather than sticking Keanu Reeves in the role to get people through then door. Not that any adaptation's ever done that.
http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=21886

Oh, apparently he was "jumpy thug" in Batman Begins.

Also, Cover Girl has been casted, too: Karolina Kurkova
http://www.cinematical.com/2008/02/0...rl-in-g-i-joe/
After some extensive Google-assisted research, I have no issue at all with that decision.

David Murray has been uncast as Destro!

And they've announced his replacement.

OH YES. It's everybody's favourite. Destro will now be played... as...

A SHOUTY NORTHERNER

Well **** me. Still, if Destro's supposed to be Scotish (I don't remember him having the accent in the cartoon) Sylvester McCoy should be first choice surely?

This is probably the least likely bit of replacement casting since Val Kilmer took over as the new voice of KITT...

That'll do. Now don't make me use my newly expanded powers again. This is a skive forum, after all.

What, you expect an 80s American cartoon to go to great lengths to nail the Scottish accent?

They did "sort of posh" which is shorthand for British. Scottish would have been impenetrable, and being as Destro doesn't wear a kilt and carry bagpipes, none of the viewers would have been able to work out what it was meant to be.

Mind you, not every Scotsman has a TV comedy show Scottish accent... and Destro is credited with being well-educated and able to speak several languages fluently, so I doubt he'd speak like a member of the Taggart http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taggart cast.

BTW, anything on Cobra Commander yet, anyone?

oh I know that they don't all sounds like hilarious stereotypes in real life but g.i. joe the cartoon wasn't known for its subtelty so as a previous poster mentioned I imagine if they really meant to emphasize he was scottish he would wear a kilt and play the bag pipes.

Now I think of it, isn't there a bit in one of the TF crossovers (for there are many) with him sitting in his stock Scottish castle being served by a tartan wretch and getting called Laird? I really should have noticed the Scots connection before...
