I was being sarcastic.

That cartoon is obviously Anti-Mormon propaganda. In retrospect it probably wasn’t the most appropriate thing to post.

Meh. It's fine. There's a lot of that shit floating around on the intertubes.

Also, if there is one thing that I've learned from this forums, looking back things always end up biting you in the ass.

When have you EVER not apparently been nice generally? You've never been any nastier or stricter than Clay has here. I'm not sure why you'd paint yourself as worse than that?

How is that any worse than people who believe anything their parents or society tells them? That's the source of most people's religious beliefs.

It's not. But the fact that the video, as he said was just anti-mormon propaganda that wasn't even close to our beliefs is why I said that.

Is this self imposed irony or what? Auros already touched on it, but I had to say something. This is a really backwards thing to say to someone when you are defending religion, especially one as far fetched as Mormonism, when generally religious writings are the hardest things to believe if you apply rational thought and pure logic to them.

It is of course fairly well known that all followers of a cult do not behave in the same manner, though wide sweeping generalizations can sometimes be made. Not all Mormons behave the same way, just as all Christians in general do not, or any other religious group/sect/cult.

As far as the baptism of the dead, it is fairly pointless and makes no difference at this point anyway. From a religious standpoint it supposedly offers salvation or membership into the cult, as these people are long since dead I don't think this will affect their remains in any way. From a social standpoint I find it to be disrespectful to try and impose a religion on someone who is already dead, obviously we cannot know if they would have chosen this or not. From a logical standpoint, it is a pointless ritual that will not affect anything for these dead bodies, so it is a waste of time.

Why don't we do a seance to the dead and find out if they want to baptised or not? I'll hire a ms. Cleo and we can do ritual dance to accompany her stunning answer too.

Absence isn't a presence, it's just that a lot of people (funnily enough, mostly theists) don't seem able to conceptualise absence of belief in a supernatural being in anything other than the framework they're used to.

I believe or don't believe people are telling the truth when they say stuff; if some nutter tells me there's an invisible figure on my shoulder with a close personal interest in my sex life, that's just seeing no evidence for a claim. And backing away slowly, and looking for something hard to smack them with if their disconnection with reality is more dangerous.

It was just a lightly humorous flippant remark.....

Yeh, there's a big difference between believing in something and having beliefs; I believe in myself, my close friends, Roy Hodgson and David Bowie, I wouldn't say that gives me some sort of belief system...
