Considering the pricing for Skywarp, Thundercracker, etc. possibly not.

Those were store-exclusives and/or mainland Asia stuff though, weren't they? Exclusives are a lot pricier for us to get our hands on because we usually don't have the option of buying them direct from Japan, and mainland releases are usually way more than regular Takara stuff. Shockwave will probably wind up costing over $100 but I'd be pretty surprised if you couldn't get him from HLJ and the like for around $120. Not a huge cost difference from 3P, but not the $175 BBTS is asking either.

Their thread on Shockwave is almost nothing but 3P/anti-3P trolling and people upset that he's got G1-accurate skinny legs. It's glorious(ly stupid)!

Even from HLJ, I doubt the landed cost to the UK will be under 100. At which point he's working out more expensive than the Quakewave re-release is currently up for .

Makes sense. It really depends on how slavishly G1 you want your Shockwave to be, I suppose. For most characters I wouldn't mind the Classicsier look that Quakewave has. I mean, I love my Hexatron but they took some really big liberties with him. But Shockwave's look is so distinctive and unique to him that none of the 3P toys even come close to being good enough...they just make him look too much like "just another Transformer", if that doesn't come across as nonsense.

Yeah, he's virtually indistinguishable from Windsweeper.

Part of me doubts Shockwave will be all that expensive. If this new Hot Rod is intended to be scaled with the Autobot cars, Shockwave would only be about the same height as Optimus Prime, and he doesn't have a giant trailer with him.

In fact, I would go as far as say his pricetag will probably be only a wee higher than that of Ironhide.

So I don't get internet access for one night...and wake up to this!

Glorious, although I admit I like Quakewave's legs better. Hot Rod appears to take after the older MP Hot Rod, in that it -looks- simple, but is complex. Like how part of the car bonnet/headlights swivel around to the side to [somewhat] slim his profile.

And it looks like that rumour from Masterforce did pay off.

On the matter of price, BBTS once again puts up a ridiculous preorder price with no solid info at all. Seeing as they don't even charge for their preorders, and there's a no penalty cancellation policy, I fail to see the point in this.

Price for Hot Rod is probably going to be around 7-8.000 or so yen [he looks bigger than Tracks], Shockwave is probably going to sit at 15.000 or so -I estimate 15 to 17ish. Magnus is much bigger and only cost 18.000.

So after preorder discounts and all that, they should not be more than 35-38ish pounds and 70-89 pounds each, preordered, before shipping, from a japanese retailer.

*Looks at Masterpiece Shockwave, then looks at Quakewave*

*shrugs*

They're both fine. I'll probably pick up the official one too, but I'm not letting go of my Quakewave.

Hot Rod is looking ok to me in the side profile photos. My main concern is that he looks like he's wearing a large jumper/sweater...

I'll wait and see what he looks like painted.

Shockwave remains a certain buy.

Nice they've got the two hand choice for Shockwave for those moments when you just have to re-enact More Than Meets the Eye.

Apparently Magnus is being re-released as well.

Yeah, the Magnus thing is a weird one, as it's not long since I bought mine so I genuinely hadn't realised he was at the "not readily available" point.

I do think the "choice of clip-on backpacks" feature on Shockwave is massively cheating, but sometimes it's whatever you gotta do to get the look you're going for.

But not if the look you're going for is "cross-section of Hot Rod digesting the Matrix".

Considering Soul of Chogokin gets away with partsforming all the time, I don't see why MP can't.

As expected, Shockwave is fantastic. I'm fine with the backpack thing. It looks to me like the barrel is non-removable because of it being on a fold-out armature or some such, so they have to cover it in robot mode somehow, and it's a good way to include a stand to help display him in gun mode.
Really love that he comes with a miniature version of his gun mode to wield.

Hot Rod... he looks better in color, like I hoped. It's not perfect, but I can live with it.
I really don't get the Matrix storage gimmick though. Doesn't make sense as having the Matrix would make him Rodimus, and the picture makes me think including it may have negatively impacted the design.

Shockwave is waaaaaaaay too lilac for my taste. I much prefer a darker purple, such as that in the comic or on the G1 toy. The figure looks good, but no way will I buy it in that colour. Toy version repaint please, TT!

Hot Rod looks pants. That chest!

I guess we'll at least have a Shackwave exclusive from someone, so more toy accurate is likely as well.

I'm not sure what repaints we might get for Hot Rod, though an all red hate plague version would be neat (and let them do the stock white MP10 Prime now we have a proper Ultra Magnus).
