Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

I dunno... when you think of the type of animal Skysaur is, the first play feature you'd think of is flappy-flap, which it can do. Same for Seasaur... the first thing you'd think of is... necky-neck(?), which it can also do... and now that I think of it, Landsaur can do bitey-bite, so he's three fo...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Beast Machines/Dinobots Magmatron Magmatron.jpg Debated whether this should go in this thread for the sake of continued Beast-era/vintage-y related discussion, or in the New Acquisitions one since this is, well, a new acquisition of mine. But, why am I even stating this since it is pretty dang clea...

Re: Is the Dreamwave run available digitally?

Nope, not legitimately. Ended up going the illegitimate route years and years ago. I have nearly the entire DW run in digital format somewhere , and really, I think I only did so for the sake of completionism. The only Dreamwave era stuff available on Comixology are the G.I. Joe/Transformers crossov...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

And all of the above compounds on itself to just make Magnaboss look that much worse by comparison. The contrast is amazing. And yeah, all that makes the absolute hot mess that is Magnaboss even funnier by comparison. Well, errrr, Magnaboss has a neat sword...??? A sword that is fashioned from a ca...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Is Beast Machines the first Transformers line where the last waves were so badly distributed that they wound up being worth a mint on the secondary market? Seems that way, doesn't it. For a time I really wanted that Beast Wars Returns Blackarachnia ( Beast Machines in Japan), but holy f*** is that ...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

The Dinobots You meanie, you have a Rapticon! :( I'm one of those odd ones that actually likes the original use of the mold, even if the arms are admittedly a confusing mess. But I agree, the TM2 Dinobot mold wears these colors so much better. That shiny cobalt blue is doing something for me, and t...

Re: Revisitation: The IDW Original Continuity Retrospective.

The main issue I have with Stormbringer is that it's too soon and serves mainly to announce a total lack of faith in the Earth book and undermine the ramping up of conflict there. You're not wrong, they even solicited it that way--"Nothing but robots on Cybertron". They might've slapped t...

Re: Revisitation: The IDW Original Continuity Retrospective.

Back in the day, I recall recommending Stormbringer as a good jumping on point for folks looking to dabble into the IDW stuff--and Spotlight Shockwave too, but hoooo boy, there will be a whole lot of continuity tied up in that one. Not sure I would recommend it as a jump on point now, but I can see ...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Soooo.... is it okay for me talk about the Beast Wars toys I pulled out of storage again? ;) Had it all written up earlier, an' everything too. They're the underwater kind! --- Transmetal 2 Cybershark - Blah, blah, blah, requisite but obvious comment about Sky-Byte, blah, blah, blah. Don't have any ...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

I feel the same way too. Creative use of beast-mode parts in robot mode is what makes most of the most memorable Beast-era designs so good... ..... They did a great job of leveraging unique beast parts to give the figures unique, appealing robot modes as well. ... Maybe because there's a lot of sta...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Is it just me, or do the old-timey 3H BotCon exclusives have way more appeal than more of the FunPub stuff could ever aspire to? I don't know if it's just that they repainted molds from the "right" series, or the serious rarity or just the fact that they felt more special when there was o...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Either you have excellent taste or you know exactly which toys to post to make me jealous (or both)! I love the looks of both of these. Unfortunately they're two of the most expensive retail Beast-era releases out there. Primal Prime is even creeping up on the same level of "ridiculously unatt...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

I've had some thought that they like to figure out the masterpiece design first, then walk it back for regular retail stuff. Hot Rod, Beast Wars Megatron, G1 Inferno and Grapple, etc. A lot of the visual design study seems to carry over, at least. That's kind of what I was thinking, too, though I'd...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Guard City always had that "unobtainable Japanese exclusive" mystique, and zigzagger made him actually cool on top of that. Who, me? Awwwwwwww! --- Okay, I'll bite. Had pull out the ol' tubs for this one, but some of my most cherished bots are from the Beast-era. Sharing some of my...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Kind of went nuts on some of these newfangled '86er dudes. But TLDR, most of these guys they're kind of great, aren't they? Again, most of them . Studio Series 86 Hot Rod - Cutting right to the chase, this is very much the best of the bunch. Easily. I'm not one to get too caught up in hype, though t...

Re: Revisitation: The IDW Original Continuity Retrospective.

Oooooh, the timing; I've been tempted to revisit the "Phase 1" stuff. It's been a few years or so for sure--hasn't been nearly as long for the Roberts et al era stuff, though. Might hang around for this. In hindsight, I still to this day believe Furman had some nifty ideas. The execution a...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Earthrise Thrust: Because the Seekers are a bit of an addiction, and I couldn't just stop at one. The coneheads are a trio, and my Dirge and Ramjet needed the red one to pal around with. Paid a slight mark-up for this, unfortunately; scalpers and the more greedier/greasier facet of the fandom made ...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Yeah, I remember reading that the general bulkiness of the packaging is so that it absorbs the damage and not the figure inside. I've never heard of it being tested that directly, though. I'm not even mad about it--and I did gleefully destroy the box. Wonder if should I be? I mean, the figu...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Earthrise Dirge and Ramjet showed up today, packaged rather... dubiously. Though, I suppose, technicallyyyyyy the set's actual packaging counts as a shipping box, right? Right? Seriously though, Amazon simply slapped a postage label on the toy's package and, uhhh, shipped it. No shipping box, no fo...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

I find it hard to disagree that the late-run Decepticons are a lot more interesting (visually and character-wise) than their Autobot counterparts. Just line the toy catalogues up side by side and it's pretty tough to deny. It's true. Those 87-88 'Cons are all about the aesthetic, more so than the A...
