Re: Clay's TF community research project

Bump because I just got back from presenting an expanded version at TFCon Chicago. Will edit/modify the google doc with the new/restored bits in a day or two.

It went extremely well and the crowd seemed to really like it. All of the jokes landed, too!

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Well, the Hasbro product convention thing was today, and apparently... they've listened to us? Where getting a double-targetmaster Needlenose, a new Lio Convoy, a brand new character Junkion (or more than one?), Armada Hotshot again, and Tarn? So... yeah. Broader series choices, new character design...

Living in interesting times

The covid thread seems to have (thankfully) gone dormant due the pandemic ~generally~ subsiding, but I like having somewhere to post where I could read about current events from other perspectives and countries. This week has been a doozy. I'm usually unfazed, but the idea that the ex-president was ...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

I dunno; per the last round of fan questions from the pulsar stream or whatever it is, the exclusive factor isn't just a fielding for niche items on hasbro's part, but actually really is an exclusive agreement with a given store. The question was about the netflix soundwave (I think), and it actuall...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Apparently the Legacy deluxe Cosmos, which is itself part of a walmart-exclusive sub line, is packed one to a case of eight. The other figures in the box include two copies a diaclone homage Skids and two copies of G2 Road Rocket, both of which are repaints/retools of figures that are still on the s...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

I had a masterpiece Crosscut show up today. Oddly enough, his name on both the box and the instruction sheet is SENATORCROSSCUT, with no spaces. I know it's a Japanese release, but Takara are usually better about that sort of thing. The vehicle is the same size as Legacy Skids, but the robot is bigg...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Totally agreed on that point. A lot of new Transformers manage to be very impressive without actually being very fun to transform... Though that's been an on and off problem for a while now though. One of the worst examples I can think of is actually the last Laser Prime mold they made back in 2011...

Re: Remembering that our old toys actually exist!

Yeah, I found the new G2 Laser Op a few days ago and it made me want to dig out my Scourge as well (also, technically, Korean Black Convoy). The biggest contrast is between the trailers. The original G2 is kind of an obvious send up / revision of the G1 Prime trailer, which is just a box on wheels. ...

Re: Clay's TF community research project

but instead there's often a leaning towards toyetic aspects of kids learning to frame and master their world by being in control of the big dumper truck and scary metal dinosaurs, etc. When what hooked a lot of kids originally was a full package including characterisations, bio hooks, formative int...

Re: Clay's TF community research project

This was a great read! Lots of good insights into the "invisible" younger demographics of the fandom, for sure. :) Like I mentioned when we chatted last week, if you run a project like this again you're welcome to pick my brain about survey design and data analysis. Stuff like that's been...

Re: Clay's TF community research project

The conceptual "modes" coda still feels a point not that different to how fans and buyers regard other lines such as Marvel Legends where the same figure might stand in for any of a variety of different representations in media and particular storylines. I can see that, but it's far more ...

Clay's TF community research project

Went to another conference and gave a presentation about TF fan communities and representation. Went well, overall. Didn't record the actual event as I was starting to fatigue out from the drive down and I was more lethargic than I would have liked to have been. Still, I'm happy with the result, and...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

June 2021 was the last time I posted in this forum section. Glad to see it's still alive and doing well! I've been on a major drift away from the fandom, though I do enjoy seeing other's posts about new stuff. My heart really hasn't been into collecting for various reasons - I still like Tra...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Sorry Clay - missed this! Glad you got one. Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Generations Selects Artfire w/ Nightstick I have the MP version, which I've been thinking of moving on, and this'll scale nicely with TFC Stepper/ Ricochet, so with a few quid off at ID Toys, I was happy to pick him up. I don't have any version of the MP Inferno mold, and Artfire seems weird enough...

Re: Covid 19 / everybody PANDEMIC

Update : My parents got their full test results back, positive. They still have some cold symptoms, but no fever. They've also started taking quarantine seriously, and are having my uncle grocery shop for them. Skimming through the thread, I didn't see a follow up to this. Are your parents okay now...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Got myself Kingdom Tigatron the other day (cuz I already got Airazor so why not lol). Looks decent. Yeah, the yellow/dirty fur looks much better in person, I think. As for myself, I have made poor financial decisions and bought all three Earth Rise Coneheads off ebay. I'm disappointed in myself, di...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

If he's $40 in the States that probably means they'll ask $55 here. Maybe $60 even. :( Which is pretty galling because I know I paid $20 for Scorponok in the 90s and 300% inflation over 25 years is a bit much, "vintage reissue" or not. But since I was seriously considering paying double o...
