Stupid is as stupid does!

Post by Auntie Slag »

When I was just a little person, I couldn't read the word 'Decepticon' properly, and for the first few months or so, I called them the 'Evil Deceptions' Image

I also remember someone calling Prime 'Octopus Prime'. Image

Has anyone else got any embarrasing mispronounciations from their TF childhood?

Oh yeah, I also couldn't understand the name 'Mirage' so I called him 'Mer-age'

To this day I still run across misspellings of Scorponok and Menasor, but mispronunciations are far less frequent...I have an old sketchbook of mine from when I was like 5, I bet I had similar probs to yours back then, Windcharger.

It seemed that in the cartoons, they had problems saying Scourge's name.

Like in 'Rebirth' for instance, Prime comes back to help the Headmasters, and calls him 'Sqwerge'.

Also, Hardhead means something entirely different now to what it did in my youth, what was Hasbro thinking? do they think?

And Arcee and Slag should have swapped names, I know I've mentioned this before but... little pink hussy that she was!

Windcharger

I think I had some trouble with pronunciation of all the character's names back in the day, as I was still learning to talk when I was originally into the cartoon...
And as Mr. Ghost is shirking his duties.

Already wondered where this thing went...

anyways, I did not even understand those names actually had a meaning.... I did not speak english like you guys, remember.
So the names seemed kinda random, but they were cool anyway. But it certainly forced me to learn the language, which later proved to be very usefull....

kudos to the brits and their language!

Hmm...I never had trouble with the names that I can remember, but for years after I stopped watching the show the names "Ramjet" and "Thundercracker" stuck in my head.

I had absolutely no idea what the names were connected to, so it was rather odd.

Weird, eh? Then I rediscovered Transformers. The rest is history...

I have a Decepticon Sweatshirt that says "Evil Decepticon" in small writing, and everytime someone reads it they say "Evil Deception?" and sometimes I just get really mad and yell "No, its Decepticon!"

When I was small I never could make head-nor-tale of that strange word "Heroic" written above AUTOBOT on the logo...I knew "Evil" meant bad...but Heroic....

I remember getting the Devastator gift set instead of getting the Jetfire, and my friend that I primarily played Transformers with was so mad, because he and I only liked Decepticons, and not Autobots at the time.

I had to call a buddy of mine, becuase I had never seen a combiner in real life, and he had had it for a couple of months before me.

After a couple of times trying, and the help of my friend and my dad, I was able to make the Mighty Devastator!

Oh, my best friend and I used to mispronounce and misunderstand/read names and such all the time. One that really sticks out in my head is "Cyclonius". It was before the movie and before season 3 had started, but the new toys were beginning to permeate the market. We argued "Cyclonius" vs "Cyclonus" all day one time.

I also remember misreading the word Decepticons as "Deceptions" (and sometimes even accidentally type it that way) on many occasions.

On a somewhat related note, this topic reminds me of a website about misheard lyrics in songs (some of you may have heard or seen it) called www.kissthisguy.com . It's named after the Jimi Hendrix song Excuse Me While I Kiss the Sky.

Oh and the meaning of 'Strafe' is basically to go into battle with guns blazing. Imagine an airplane swooping in on a ground target, and shooting the whole time until it passes over the target. This is called strafing. Image
