Once again boys & girls; Dark Awakening!

Post by Osku »

There hasn´t been at least for month a topic about Dark Awakening, so...

I had forgotten how good it actually is. Even without the element of surprise, it´s powerful episode. Characters are... characters. Galvatron´s retreat is for once reasonable/acceptable, Rodimus´ character is developed (and later forgotten Image ), quintessons feel like a real threat etc.

What struck me this time, was that there´s a feel of war there; casualties (cannonfodder plus perhaps Powerglide), anger, thirst for revenge. If you didn´t know this was a children´s cartoon you wouldn´t actually know the outcome Image

If the upcoming(?) Transformers: Armada just would be something like this episode. It´s been rumoured it could be darker than earlier series. I´m keeping my fingers crossed.

Yeah,

I'll go along with that. Beast Wars was as dark as something very dark indeed coming at you with an axe in a dark alley.

Well, maybe not THAT dark, but it was just as well, as I needed to change my trousers anyway.

Hey, G1 was dark!

What about Swerve takin' it on the chin! That was downright gruesome!

G2 was dark... very very dark...

BM was let down by the fact that some of the animation was straight out of Tom and Jerry...

Dark Awakening was one of the few nicley animated Eps in season three.

Dark Awakening's animation isn't actually much better than most of the third series, but that's not the point. It's the best Transformers episode. Ever. Period. the only bad thing about Antoni Zalewki's two episodes are that they make the rest seem even worse... Also while I agree the Beast series were dark, they were nowhere near as downright subversive as Dark Awakening - we're talking the guy who was at the time kids' #1 hero coming back from the grave as a zombie and trying to kill everyone. That's pretty mad for a kids' TV show.

And didn't Swerve take it on the skull, rather than chin?

In YOUR humble opinion...

It can't rival "The Ultimate Doom", but then that's mine...

I'm not! You've just given in to the pervasive thinking of "I'll tattoo whatever Cliffy says into my back, including Da Tovarisch"! Weakling!

His other ep was "Auto-Berserk," featuring the Nega-Vator and Red Alert going crazy.

And yes, Dark Awakening was the best G1 episode ever produced.

All season three has a darker side to it. You have mad galvy, quints(who give us the background of the TFs as household apliances rather than a free race), the Cons fighting for their survival(no more megs schemes).
Dark awakaning is defenetly the darkest episode, aside from the movie I think it's the only one with confirmd deaths on the good guys side.

Sadly season 3's darker aspects were outweighed by the fact that most of the cast were only there for cheap laughs...

But what about Tailgate? And Swerve? And Hubcap? And CLIFFY?!?

Man, if we're looking to the MINIBOTS for the likeable guys, we're in big trouble...

What´s wrong with Skylynx? I rephrase; Skylynx wasn´t all bad. I found his alt modes and attitude amusing.

After I´d been waching those season two episodes for months I was happy when Brendan (TFarchive) finally got to season three. There were so many bad episodes in season two where they made many of my old favourites complete morons, that I didn´t care when they started simplifying characters I was less familiar with. I quess that´s the reason I can´t share your hate towards these post movie bots.

One more reason to watch TV as a kid and start reading only when older Image
