Richard Epcar and Tom Wyner address the continuity of RiD
I recently interviewed Richard Epcar (one of the lead RiD writers, and the voice of Armorhide) for my website - but as my website is a
Digimon one, the interview is centered around his Digimon work, rather than
his RiD work (he was Etemon and Myotismon on the show).
I did, however, make a point of asking him outside of the interview, about
the US writers' attitude towards the continuity of RiD. He conferred with
Tom Wyner (the other major US writer - they are both scheduled to appear to BotCon), and the answer was thus:
"The writers of RiD had little if any knowledge of Transformer lore, and Tom
Wyner argued AGAINST trying to hook this series up with the other ones. He
felt that the younger audience members, who were not familiar with
Transformer lore, would be mystified by references to past series. Wyner
lost the argument. References to the other series were requested or
demanded by Hasbro, or (on rare occasions) by the network producers, as an
homage to Transformer lore in general, and for the sake of the huge number
of fans who've been hooked on Transformer shows since 1985."
Take that as you will. Unfortunately, it still does not give us an incontrovertible answer on whether RiD is in or out of continuity.

Well, that would mean that we get two cartoons then, right? And, two sets of toys? I kinda doubt that Hasbro would try to release two sets of toys at the same time? Though, you never know.......
