Pre movie chars were easily the best. Theywere the originals, and had overall better usage. And mind you, everyone is better than Wheelie

I can't really say. There are many pre-movie characters that I like better than post-movie, and vice versa.

in general there were'nt that many post movie charactors compared to pre movie, and not all of them got enough coverage.
but the few post movie ones i liked and had a lot more depth in my opinoion then most pre movie guys.
eg- rodimus prime, magnus, kup, sky lynx.

and again i preferred galvatron, cyclonus, scourge to most season 1,2 guys since they were handled preety well, in some cases ovewrexposure.
i wish though that runamuck , runabout had gotten more air time though.
but season1,2 defenately had better decpticon charactors.
since season 3, bar cyclonus , scourge, galvatron, had nothing but sweeps , who are all clones with no personality.
so u got bored of seeing such dull backup charactors in every episode

In general (oh, wait this is G1 Image), I prefer the pre-movie characters such as Mirage, Bluestreak, Prowl, Skywarp, Thundercracker, Starscream, etc., compared to Cyclonus, Scourge, Kup, etc. I really wish the first season characters had been given more airtime each. They all had their different personalities but the show didn't let them to develop enough.

Everyone in G1 was sorely misused; but pre-movie was the worst. At least after the movie we didn't see Bumblebee in every episode. And guys like Blaster and the Airealbots got to grow up.
That said, I dearly love Prowl and many of the originals. But we never did really get to know them before they were gone, did we?

I like both, but especially the Pre-movie TFs, not only because of better deployment, and character development, but also because after the movie, the market really got big for TFs, and it seemed like all the new TF were junk.

I love the Bruticus that I have, but he has no die cast parts, and does not have the same weight to the toy as the Devastator has.

I think the quality of transformation became better after the movie, with more complex variations of transformation, but the quality of the new charachters was not as good, nor was the material they were made of.

I think pre-movie eps were more cartooniesh and followed the same plot(megatron gets plan, 'bots ruin it) and the charecters got treated the same way- they have to be cool-oneline-wiseguys, while post movie plots were more original and thus the charecter development was treated better(fewer charecters, made it also easier to focus on main charecters aswell).
Basiclly I wish pre movie charecters got the treatment post movie chars did, since though I grew up on pre-movie and tend to favor them, the post movie ones seem more interesting.

I like the both periods, but the pre movie period is my favorite.I think season two would have been better,if they would have done the stories like they did in season 1.

I have to Say I like Post movie Autobots a bit better for they were more colourful, differnt from each other, and wernt all such goody goodies.
Post movie Deceptecons were way better in my opiion for 3 reasons:
1) Cyclonus
2) Many differnt plans from the Basic find Energon
3) I couldnt stand how Megatron kept Starscream around when he had been trying to kill him since the first episodes.

Can I maybe suggest you be a little more descriptive with your topic titles? More people are likely to read them if they know what's inside... eg, "Pre-Movie or post-Movie characters... which were better?"

Oddly enough, I'd choose the Movie characters... it was the joining of the two ways, if ya will, and we got to see a wide range of characters within it. I realise that Ron Friedman wrote it before many of the Season 2 characters were introduced, which was a shame, but then I was never a big fan of the later gestalts...

I don't know which set of characters is "better," but I know wihch ones I like more.

Pre-Movie. You got to know them for two-three years, and such. Familiarity is a concept I like.

What he said, and better animation in Season 3 would have probably added to the character thing. IE. Not have dead characters appear.
