Cybertron Hot Shot
Hooray! Finally managed to pick up a replacement for the one I sold off. WHat a cracking toy this is. It's massive for a Deluxe, the plastics are nice and weighty. He has a silly gimmick (flip out wings! big whoop) and lovely colours. One of the finest Deluxe Transformers ever ever ever. Ever.

Car or APC?

He mentioned flip-out wings, so I'm assuming car?

I love that mold...the articulation is a bit clunky by modern standards but the thing looks great in both modes. The Getaway version is pretty cool but nothing can beat Cybertron Hot Shot's colours!

(Now watch him having been talking about the APC so I look silly! :) )

It is the car version, yes. I've been after one for a while now, so I'm glad to have him again. It's quite hard picking up Unicron Trilogy stuff over here now. Even at TFNation, the bins dealers had were largely full of Movie-era stuff and not much else.

Speaking of Unicron trilogy stuff, I've always wanted Cybertron Deluxe Red Alert. Never been able to find one, so settled for Movie Allspark Power Crankcase. He's a great little figure (and he is quite little, barely taller than a Cybertron Scout class figure). The legs are just hilarious. They're so huge, as they're formed out of the front and back of the vehicle. His arms just pop out from behind the doors and he's got a couple of tools he can clamp on his left arm - a hammer or a claw (which are stored in his shins). He's such fun and the vehicle mode is also quite nice. Although I don't know what kind of Hazmat this vehicle would be carrying.

Studio Series 60 Scrapper
This was a nice surprise, as I wasn't expecting him to show up until later in the year. He's a a really horrible looking lanky snot goblin, with a big clawed panel for one hand, and a pincer grabber thing for the other. I really like his tiny head and scrunched up face, like he's having a sulk. The transformation is superb and I love the payloader mode. It might be the new toy wow factor, but I think this might be my favourite out of the movie Constructicons. 7 down. 1 to go. Exciting!

LET’S HEAR IT FOR EBAY!!!!

Titans Return Voyager G2 Laser Rod Optimus Prime... can this title get any longer? - So yes, I got the G2 deco of the Voyager TR Optimus Prime, and while the jet mode is questionable no matter which deco you use, I love the truck mode deco. The big G2 style stickering on the tanker trailer is great, the G2 Autobot emblems on the trailer are sadly hidden(I didn’t realize they were there until I was transforming the figure), and I just like the looks of the figure.

That being said, as everybody knows, the figure’s not perfect. The flight mode is terrible and Op with wings is strange(emGo’s pizza bagels joke notwithstanding), but it does one thing that I really like: Optimus has his sword sheathed because there’s nowhere else I can stick the bloody thing. The ‘antenna’ look stupid, although my complaint with them is the gap. If they fit tight to the sides of the head, it might not be so bad. One thing I hadn’t noticed in any reviews, however, is the feet. I’ve got his feet at a slight angle, one forward and to the left, the other back and twisted slightly to the right, because the feet are too small. Either that or he’s supposed to be rocked back on his heels all the time.

All in all, I like it. I do wish they’d put G2 emblems on his shoulders, though.

I figured it was the car. I was just being conversational. :p

As for movie figures dominating after market sales, I would think that has to do with relative quantities produced, yeah? The movie stuff sold like hot cakes for the first two films, and DOTM didn't course-correct in time for the lowered demand, so there'd be a ton of that stuff floating around too. Plus the live action stuff was (and probably still is) the most visible iteration of transformers in recent memory, so there's probably just more of it hanging around than other lines.

As for me, I've had two boxes show up in the past week.

Box one: the last two generations Seacons. I'm still tickled they actually made them. They're all nice, but just shit enough to hit the Seacon sweet-spot. They're not the varsity team, after all.

Box two: bunches of stuff from bbts. Mostly studio stuff including jet Shatter, jeep Bumblebee, Roadbuster, Sentinel Prime, and SCRAPPER <3, and a third party add on kit for Jetfire and Prime that I haven't fooled with yet (from the same company that did the upgrade set for Grimlock), and some earthrise Micromasters which I haven't opened yet.

Also got a couple of oddballs. DOTM Vortex, which was a Takara-only release of HFTD Tomahawk with a different head and color scheme. Tomahawk's great, but I never really cared for the Legoman head, and the Vortex head was probably the pre-tool alternate that Hasbro never followed up on. I can't remember why I didn't pick it up at the time, but they had them in stock for about what current takara deluxe figures cost, so I figured I'd go for it.

Also on clearance (but not enough), I got the Takara Star Wars X Transformers Millennium Falcon. I have zero Star Wars figures, but I did always like the spaceships, and this seemed like a nice one-off to have. I actually liked the more robot-y head they gave the Han half, and liked the mecha look of the figures overall as opposed to the Hasbro iterations. So, I went for it... and I like them! It's a good model of the Falcon too, so it does double duty. I'd say they're about the size/mass of a studio leader figure, so if they were priced around there, it'd fine and I'd recommend them. But, even on clearance, they were about twice that. I guess the original price was so high because of the amount of paint, but the panel-lining looks like it was all done by hand with a paint marker and doesn't really look good up close. I don't dislike them enough to try and return them for a refund or anything, but I wouldn't advise picking them up unless they're steeply discounted.

Haven't bought a TF in a while, but came across Earthrise Wheeljack and Cliffjumper. Both are nice. Solid figures with good articulation and simple transformations. Wheeljack is quite good, and I like that he's a slightly off-white. Nice paint apps too. It's been said here before: Cliffjumper is tiny. I couldn't pass him up in person though, because he looks really good and seemed like fun. I mentioned the size difference and equal cost to my 7 year old, to which he replied "yeah, but he comes with a big bazooka and skis and fun stuff like that". I guess he's right. :)

Cliffjumper is a lot of fun. Just a nice lil boy. You soon forget about his size when you're whooshing him around on his skis.

I love that your 7 year old can see the value in Cliffjumper that most of our fandom has completely missed. That needs plastering across all Transformers social media outlets

Cyberverse 1-Step Whirl from Walgreen's. A bit overpriced at US$14, but pickings are slim. I got a rebate check from my car insurer which just about covers it, so I consider him a gift from Allstate. He's not really a 1-Step since, in addition to folding the torso in half which extends the legs and folds out the arms, you also have to fold down both feet (which are clawlike, not skis), fold the rotor in half, and flip the tail up.

The springs that retract the arms when converting back into copter mode also cause the arms to come together a bit instead of going straight out. He's too tall to scale with the little figures that wear vehicle parts as armor, but too small to scale with Warriors. He's a bit taller, but much lankier than, Bludgeon and Repugnus, my other Cyberverse 1-Steps. It's not much, but the other 2 look much better with the armor wearers than Whirl does.

His "Turbo Talon" gimmick is just a lever in his left arm that you slide to extends his trademark claw. His right arm has a cannon sculpted into it instead of a claw. In theory, you could use this claw to grab something. But, there's plastic just under where the claw goes when not extended, which would get in the way. This claw and the 2 shoulder joints are his only articulation.

The folded rotor blades stick up and out like Lion Voltron's wings, which looks great. Folding the tail up helps hold them in place, but doesn't look so good, and the tail sticks too far behind Whirl's back. I prefer to just fold the tail slightly, like a tail. The rotors stay in place OK with friction, only rarely coming loos and swinging down.

He's OK, but would've made a much better Warrior figure. He'd scale with other figures. He'd have a gimmick no less impressive than his claw. Probably some elbows. His transformation might even be easier, as the mechanism linking the torso, arms, and legs can cause the limbs to get in the way of each other. If there were another Cyberverse Whirl available, I'd get that instead of this. But there isn't, and this little guy does look pretty good, so I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Transformers Bumblebee Cyberverse Adventures Hammerbyte or Ham for short... branding's getting a bit ridiculous there, isn't it, as is positioning Bumbebee as the recognisable headline.

Not in style with what appears to be the animation model, but a decent rendition not far off eg Combiner Wars. The legs don't follow CW as much as they appeared to, but in hand it's a good figure without the gimmick sacrificing much beyond head and waist swivels. And the shark head looks better than preview images. Benefits from having a weapon, although that's a reminder that the shark mode doesn't have any 5mm peg holes to interact with other lines.

edit: The shark mode's got a surprising amount of character and balances very stably on top of a laptop screen.

Cyberverse Deluxe Grimlock - A well designed figure, but not well made enough to be worth US$20. This is WfC prices, but not WfC quality. The bot shin detail is unpainted, the paint that does exist is bit drab, the bot forearms are hollow even though the fists don't fold there, and the dino arms have no articulation. None of these issues exist with the Leader sized Cyberverse Grimlock that's only slightly more expensive.

On the plus side, the transformation is pretty well designed. 35-ish years after G1 Grimlock, they're still finding new twists on the same basic transformation scheme. Usually, the bot logs come together, with the shins forming the top of the dino's back. Here, the left leg forms the top of the dino's back, while the right leg forms the dino's underbelly.

This solves a Grimlock issue that's been around since Animated: the wings not being curved, leaving a gap in the dino's neck, often leaving the bot head visible. Cyberverse Grim's right foot folds into that gap, covering the bot head.

The dino tail folds into the bot legs kinda like the MP, but not as effectively. Where the MP uses the dino tail to make a solid leg, CV just has the tail hanging in the gaps of a hollow leg. Still, it's impressive enough that I'm going to the MP for a comparison.

He's a bit small next to Warriors. He's barely smaller than them, but it's Grimlock, so you'd expect him to be bigger. He does scale well with that Whirl I mentioned above. Warrior Jetfire is another figure that should be bigger than others but is actually a hair smaller. Maybe when I put my Cyberverse figures together, I'll put them in the back and pretend they're farther away.

The crown tabs into the dino head, and looks good there. But, it only balances on the bot head, and not very well. The flame piece makes for a decent club and looks good coming out of the dino's mouth. I wish the big Grim had a 5-mm hole in the mouth so I could stick TLK Megatron's flame effect in there.

He also comes with Maccaddam's right forearm, which I thought would be useless without the other pieces. But the socket fits Kre-O brick ball joints, so maybe I'll find some way to incorporate it.

Grimlock's not a bad toy. He's just less good than, say, Hammerbyte, who is larger, more colorful, similarly articulated, and substantially cheaper.

Mmm, I like details about most of the Grimlock cyberverse figures, but none of them have nailed the character particularly well for me, personally. If I had to pick one more-or-less as is I'd like the Ultimate class figure downsized and released in the UK... it's overpriced if adding international shipping.

It took two years, the plague, and the imminent collapse of America, but I finally got one. FINALLY!!!!!

Transformers Legends LG-42 Godbomber: And boy, am I glad I got him to be the rest of God Ginrai, because as a figure.... he's a bit of a mess. If you look at him funny, his forearms fall off. But combined with Ginrai, he looks amazing. And thanks to getting Godbomber, I discovered that there's something wrong with Ginrai's left foot. The piece that's supposed to be clipped onto is either the backwards or they put the one for the right foot in. It will clip in, but it won't lock.

He surely is! Out of my new Transformers, he's the one I fiddle with the most.

No doubt. Fandoms can be vicious at times, and all it takes is a kid's mind to really see why these things are fun. A simple line can put things into perspective for grumpy adults!

Also, even though I hadn't planned to, I picked up Earthrise Hoist. Never been a big fan of the character, but the bright mix of colors and the boxy alt mode seemed like fun. And he is. Not too keen on the flaps behind the arms nor the emptiness of the torso, but he's all around good. He's also very tall, about a head taller than Wheeljack. So in one wave I got three 'bots of significant diversity, but uniquely fun in their own ways.

Bumblebee Cyberverse Adventures Rip Thrash Hammerbyte
I found one! On Amazon! for £20...?! That's more than an Earthrise Deluxe. I don't understand why the Cyberverse figures are so expensive. Anyway, Hammerbyte is fun! He looks really nice, sculpt and detail is good and I really like the silly spring-loaded gimmick that gives him a shark head in robot mode. Like a Street Shark. Articulation's a bit basic, but does the job and the transformation is fun. Shark mode is nice. Really wish he came with a weapon or some kind of melee weapon (a trident?). So, a good toy and lots of fun, but a little bit lacking for the price and what you actually get.

Universe 2.0 Onslaught
Wow. I see why folk like this 'bot. It's big, chunky, ratchety has lights and that and turns from a right old bruiser of a bot to a SWATmobile. It's bloody awesome and puts his wafer thin Combiner Wars incarnation to shame. What a brilliant toy!

You think that's bad, wait'll they add the name of the gimmick.

Transformers Bumblebee Cyberverse adventures energon Armor Rack'N'Ruin - Like Clobber, a well articulated Voyager sized kiddie toy whose gimmick doesn't get in the way too much. The toon shows two torsos connected at the shoulders. The torso deco here tries to replicate that, but the sculpting is still clearly a single, two-headed torso.

He's got ball jointed shoulders and hips, and two axes of rotation on each elbow and knee. The shoulder articulation is hampered by the wheels on the backs of the shoulders. But, the transformation joints allow the arms to fold in front of the chest. The guys can fist bump each other. Or, have one fist under a chin for sort of a congratulatory gesture. Both fit the character(s).

Altmode is a tank with a barrel on each side side instead of in the middle. It rolls well and looks pretty good, except for the gap in the windshield for the energon armor hinge. The front of the tank is filled in, but the back is empty between the rear wheels.

The armor covers only the heads and torso, where Clobber's also covered the shoulders. This keeps articulation free. The T shaped visors would invoke R'N'R's G1 look if they weren't translucent blue. If you trust your painting skills, you can turn this into a G1 figure that's the same height as Siege Impactor.

I also got Earthrise Hoist, but haven't opened him yet.
