Earthrise Snapdragon, Prowl, Ironhide, and Runamuck

Snapdragon as a gift, the other 3 as pre-orders that came in the mail. Snapdragon is really fun, but nothing special. Easy to go between the 3 modes, and the Headmaster functionality is good. Overall very fun figure. Prowl is great! Easily replaces the Siege version on my shelf. Ironhide is meh. So much has been reused from Siege that he's a slight disappointment. He's still pretty good, but if Siege hadn't preceded it I would think more positively about it. Runamuck is good fun. I had the original as a kid, and it's great to get a newer version that isn't an exclusive. The only issue is the front wheels (not pinned) are a little rough so they don't roll well. I'm very happy with all four figures though!

Prowl and Ironhide are a two-pack, yeah? Wasn't impressed with the look of Ironhide/Ratchet, but was happy to find Bluestreak at Walgreens about a month ago. I had thought it a remold of the Siege figure(s), but I can't actually find any parts in common between him and Barricade.

As for me, I picked up Airwave and a reissue Blaster yesterday. It's interesting that they managed to replicate both of Airwave's modes from the original and still get a distinct, squat, fun robot out of it, although I imagine the parts forming helps with that.

Wasn't intending to get Blaster, but then I remembered that I already have the Encore reissues of his cassettes, and $30 for complete, boxed G1 figures isn't bad (there's certainly better value there than in Prime's cab for $50!). I hadn't handled a Blaster in decades, so I was struck by just how many flat, smooth surfaces he has. And then back in the box he went, sitting on the shelf next to his cassettes.

Yes they are. It's a shame Hasbro stuck them in an exclusive 2-pack, as I would have preferred to just get Prowl and stick with Siege Ironhide. Because of this, I'm also completely content to stick with Siege Ratchet and not get the 2-pack for the Earthrise version + a color variant of Arcee I have no interest in.

Prowl is amazingly similar to the Siege mold, but as you mentioned, entirely new.

Earthrise Race Track Patrol: I got these guys two weeks ago and didn't bother to post about it, which probably tells you how exciting they weren't. Their colours are really striking, except the pink one's legs are only painted on the front, so he looks a bit cheap from any angle except dead on. But I can't even remember their names, because we've now reached the point that they're now homaging G1 characters so obscure that even I don't care about them. And since Micromasters don't really do anything, me caring about the characters is a pretty big factor in me caring about the toys.

Beast Wars Injector: This ghastly thing, on the other hand, I can't get enough of. I tracked one down on eBay for a reasonable price, and when it arrived I was really happy to find that (one stress mark on a bug leg aside) it was as good as new. The beast mode is actually, legitimately cool. It's ugly, sure, but it's ugly in a "scary monster" sort of way. If I got attacked by an ugly fishbee like this while playing a fantasy video game, I wouldn't think it was out of place at all. It looks nasty and poisonous and deadly, just like a Predacon air commander should be.

The robot mode, on the other hand, is complete Dadaist nonsense. About 45% head, with arms and legs twice as long as its torso, and a face that looks like someone sawed off the bottom half of a normal Transformer's head and just shoved a bunch of teeth in as a replacement. I don't think I can adequately describe it because I can barely understand what I'm seeing when I look at it. I can totally understand why Takara took one look at the guy and decided to make him a cosmic horror working for Unicron.

The good thing about the raise and accompanying overtime at work is that I've got more money to buy Transformers.. The bad thing is the stress. Primus the stress. At least I'm not doing paperwork in my dreams yet.

Yet.

Anyway, on the up side, Black Friday came and went, and so on Dark Grey Saturday(seriously, it was pretty overcast), I went out to my local Walmart and marvelled at how quickly they'd cleaned up the carnage, then hit the toy aisle, and now that the second wave of Earthrise is coming to an end, we finally got some.

Smokescreen: He looks really good, but unlike Prowl his shoulders don't really seem to lock in properly. He still looks really good, though.

Arcee: I like the design, although I do wish they'd glued the fin/antenna/whatever it is in place. It popped off while I was transforming her.

Earthrise Bluestreak - Bot mode is a step up from the Siege version. The head sculpt's better. The shoulder cannons don't have giant tabs sticking out of the sides. The square hip joints look better and have more range of articulation that Siege's ball joints. The center hood tab folds down into the abdomen, giving that portion of the bot a more interesting look that Siege's plain red chunk. And I like the classic rear window shin look. The closest thing I have to a complaint is that the right fist is too small to hold his gun. So, he's left handed.

Transformation doesn't seem as smooth as the Siege version. But, I've only done it once, so maybe it'll get easier. The car mode doesn't tab together as well as the Siege version, and ER has the wheels that don't conceal the tabs.

Siege Decepticon Rumble & Ratbat & Direct-Hit & Power Punch (Battle Squad) - A club member was nice enough to buy and send me these two as they weren't appearing near me.

Studio Series Leadfoot (w/ Steeljaw) & Earthrise Bluestreak - I was in a group buy for these figures as they were easy to find in Hong Kong, but they are exclusive in America and we were not getting them in Australia.

Studio Series Blitzwing & Scavenger - Bought from Amazon with discounts (Black Friday or otherwise).

Cyberverse Seekers Sinister Strikeforce - I really like the colours on these guys and they were on clearance, so made it an easier decision.

I had the Netflix siege Nemesis Prime thing arrive yesterday. Never bothered with the siege Prime mold before, so it's my first handling of this version. I like that I ended up with a Nemesis Prime that's a remold/retool of Earthrise Prime as it differentiates them more. I also like that Hasbro put out a mostly-the-same deco as Takara for a lower price and with a trailer and extra bits, because [nelson]ha ha[/nelson].

As for the figure itself, the transformation is a bit convoluted for how much dangling kibble the robot ends up with. Also, the lack of the actual matrix instead of just molded detail, and the fixed hands instead of the opening hands of the earthrise version just seem like salt in the wound for anyone that bought the Siege version of the mold before the Earthrise version was revealed. Although maybe it was just to lower the parts count to make the cab viable as a voyager release, whereas the later version had the benefit of a higher price bracket for more parts? I dunno. On its own or even compared with the Earthrise figure, it's honestly a fine and interesting figure, but it just seems like they should have led with the other to avoid any sour grapes. I mean, if the Prime (2012) Megatron came after the Sharkticon Megatron SPACEFISH, people probably would have cried foul for having the 'real' version come later or whatever, ignoring the fact that the Spacefish is actually cooler.

As for the extra bits, I like how the bird and the snake make a sword and shield, but that it's completely inverted from which one you'd think would make which if you know what those animals look like. The forearm guns are comically oversized, but I guess those were on the same sprue as the two swords. That's likely the reason Roller isn't in this set either: he's probably on the same sprue as the rest of the bits in that gun pack. Ho-hum.

Earthrise Runabout from a Target pre-order. I already have Runamuck, so it's nice to have a full set. Basically a redeco with a new head, but that's OK. So he's nothing new or special for me, but I really dig the black and red, especially in the windows. The double-pistols-that-can-be-a-rifle is also a good addition. Overall I'm pretty happy with the two.

Earthrise Smokescreen - From Aldi's, since I'm still avoiding Walmart. They had all the wave 2 Deluxes, at a couple bucks cheaper than Walmart, and this is the only one I liked.

He's got the same issues as Blustreak. His right fist is too small to hold his weapon. His left shoulder slot isn't quite deep enough for his cannon to sit flush. It's a bit tricky to tab him together in car mode.

He's got more complex paint than Bluestreak due to his white trim and door numbers. Plus, the sides of his lower legs are painted instead of Bluestreak's bare clear plastic, which is a major step up. But, this means no paint for wheel rims and taillights. Bluestreak's silver rim paint means the grey wheel pegs don't stand out so much. Smokescreen's plain black wheels do nothing to hide the blue pegs.

I wouldn't mind these wheels so much if they rolled well, but one of mine doesn't. It turns if you apply pressure to it, but slides instead of rolls when you push the car around. If we're stuck with poorly rolling pegged wheels instead of proper pinned wheels, at least use the kind where the peg is hidden, like Siege Bluestreak did.

The head and bumper have been retooled. The bumper looks fine. It conceals the folded down hood center in bot mode more than Bluestreak's, which helps set the bots apart. The head is OK. The sculpting is less detailed than Bluestreak's, enough so that the heads don't look like they're from the same line. Plus, on mine there's some visible flashing/glue where the front and back halves are attached.

Earthrise Bumblebee (Netflix)

I was in Walmart earlier and came across him. Wanting a new 'Bee and already liking the Cliffjumper figure made this an easy pick. Great little car and great robot mode. The top of the car is a little tough to plug in and I worry that the paint will chip over time. Surprised there's a tiny VW logo on the car, considering he's not a Studio Series fig. I'm disappointed there isn't a spot to peg the guns in to the car without using the back end propped in a funky fashion. Overall he's a great little Bumblebee though!

Netflix Earthrise Soundwave: Looking back on it now, I'm honestly not sure why I got the figure. It had been a long day at work, I was rushing home and had to stop at Walmart to pick up a prescription, figured I'd take a quick peek in the toy aisle to see if they had any Trailbreakers. I saw, with some surprise, that while the deluxes were pretty much gone, they had 3 Netflix Earthrise figures: 2 Optimus Primes and 1 Soundwave. And the next thing I knew, I had Soundwave.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great figure. I love the red eyes(though they don't seem to grab the light the way the yellow did), having Lazerbeak and Ravage packed in as well was great. And I just love the way it looks.

But there wasn't a need there.

Earthrise Runamuck
On 'sale' from Amazon UK (doesn't really count as a sale, when they just reduced it to the RRP, down from their usual oddly expensive Transformers prices) during the recent Black Friday jamboree (we love American imports), so thought I'd pick him up, as the shops keep opening and closing due to how we're managing Covid. I really like him...in robot mode at least. He's nice and beefy looking. Perhaps a bit plain (I miss the flash of orange of the original toy), but otherwise pretty neat. Transformation is really cool and I like the look of the vehicle mode...but it doesn't roll because the plastic clip on wheels are garbage. I hate these things. Such an obvious cost cutting measure, but it means all your vehicular Transformers just don't play well. Boo.

Generations Selects Hubcap
Man, what a lovely little figure this is. I wasn't interested in Cliffjumper, because I don't really care for Cliffjumper, but Hubcap has always been a favourite. I think I had the original as a birthday gift or something. Paintwork on this figure is fantastic and I love how crisp and bright he looks. Bit of a shame he comes with the same accessories as Cliffjumper, as they seem a bit of a mismatch for him, but they add some play value. Vehicle mode is lovely and the transformation is wicked and makes it easy to overlook the parts forming.

I DID IT!!! I MADE IT OUT OF 2020 EARLY!!!!! Because I had to, otherwise this figure wouldn’t be here, right?

Hasbro Pulse Earthrise G2 Megatron: Aside from wanting to get a drill and adding a port to make the fusion cannon shoulder mounted instead of having to use the tank/sword thing, I like the figure. It looks different enough from the Rise Megs thanks to the deco, and the shine on the figure just reminds me of the intro full body pic of post-Cobra rebuild Megs. Yeah, the chest is wrong, but it works.

And since it isn’t coming out until late January 2021, it means I’m free of 2020! YAY!!!.... wait, everything looks the same.....

For whatever reason, the head that looks terribly silly on Earthrise Megs looks totally right on the G2 version.

Earthrise Autobot Clones: I totally forgot that I bought these guys. Or maybe more accurately, I preordered them months ago and immediately wrote them off because Amazon Canada has been mass-cancelling orders on every one of their exclusive action figures this year. I never expected I'd actually get them, so it was a nice surprise that they actually showed! I imported their Decepticon counterparts from Japan ages ago, but the ugly pink colour scheme that Takara used on these guys was a major turnoff.

In-hand, they don't have quite the same charm as the Decepticon clones did. I guess it's because dorky beast modes are inherently cuter than dorky vehicle modes? They're nice little basic figures though, and nicely poseable for their size. Their construction is basically identical to Pounce and Wingspan, but they don't seem to actually share any parts with those two. They're fun for what they are, and I'm a bit surprised that Hasbro hasn't spammed us with easy repaints of these two as various first-year Pretenders' inner robots.

Earthrise Autobot Clones:
I have the Takara set, and the lighter red isn't all that garish. That said, I had ordered them when there was no access to the hasbro versions outside of those $100 boxed set, so I'm not regretful about it. I think I had posted something similar to what you said when I got them. They're objectively... not great, but they're cute in an inner-pretender-robot kind of way.

As for me, I've had plenty of stuff come in over the past couple of months. I think I've been coping with pandemic seclusion by buying figures, which I doubt is uncommon. For the most part, it's stuff that I would've gotten anyway, but it's definitely increased in the last six weeks or so.

I got a Leo Prime so my Cybertron Prime can have two cat arms. I'd rather have a Nemesis Breaker, but one of those with the tail included trades for more than it's worth now.

I had Earthrise Runabout turn up Monday after paying a markup on ebay. I don't have a Target near me anyway, and I'm certainly not going around during a pandemic to look for something that may not even be in stock. Anyway, he's neat and I like him. He and Runamok are honestly better than they really have any right to be.

Probably a month ago, I had MPM 2007 Megatron arrive. I seem to be running about a year behind on movie masterpiece figures to see if they show up cheaper, but Megatron has held his value, so I went ahead and bought one. He's huge! Absolute beast of a figure. Kind of wish the entire thing were chromed, but that probably wouldn't be very durable.

Also had the 10th anniversary Prime figures (Breakdown, Air Vehicon, Hades Megatron) arrive last week. I already have an Air Vehicon, so I haven't paid much attention to him. Come to think of it, I haven't actually taken the large figures out yet, though I have put together the Micron that makes Megatron's cannon. I had forgotten how annoying stickers that are cut slightly too large can be.

The most random purchase has probably been the Cybertron remolds Blurr and Runamuck. The other two Armada remolds (Longrack and Buzzsaw) I've had since release, but the real kicker is that I've had their complementary Minicons that were only available in Japan as Micron Boosters since release too! It only took me fifteen years to get around to acquiring their larger partners! I'm a bit disappointed in Blurr since his minicon compatibility has been completely removed, but happy that Runamuck has his intact. Never actually had the Armada Sideswipe mold before. It's bad, but so ridiculously bad that it's fun. Like, it has to this ungainly on purpose, right? It's so silly, I love it.

Finally, the local walmart has kicked Earthrise deluxe figures down to $10. No other lines or size classes, just those. Slim pickings, but I found an Allicon. At $10, he still seems overpriced. His transformation is basically like Punch/Counterpunch, but without having to turn into something else and no bother given to hiding the hands. He's a cute alligator-man thing, though.

I've got more, but that's all I want to type up now.

Haven't got around to properly playing with these. More Combiner Wars/ POTP retools, but the figures look fun and I do like a gestalt with a uniform colour palette.
