He does...but only in robot mode (although I'm not fond of the Mr Punch head sculpt). Somehow the City mode just looks like he's been butchered and thrown in a corner. Its disappointingly unconvincing. I expected a something a bit better given the leaps and bounds in engineering we've had since then. Scamper is neat though - are he and Slammer are part of the fancy SDCC version...?

Nice.

Comparing...

Of the three releases (US retail, SDCC, Japanese retail) the deco on the Takara one is most appealing, personally.

^ Soundwave also appearing at SDCC? Does anyone think there's the slightest chance in hell TRU UK will stock? They went for the new Prime MP.

I like that the SDCC one comes with..Decoys! Also in amongst all those pics on Seibertron I spotted Shockwave's Lab which I liked - the colours on this version of Shockwave look nicer than the regular retail release.

@Denyer Yes, TRU UK will stock on MP Soundwave. Not sure about Acid Storm, but indeed for Soundwave. Don't know when and how. The TRU closest to me has about 8 MP Primes at 99 GBP, don't see how they can also stock Soundwave though. US Price is 120 USD. Personally can't wait for it as my Takara release is in Greece and I never handled any of the cassettes bar Laserbreak.

@Skyquake Hmmm, don't see any other way they could have done Metro's city mode. He's near identical to the original in how he transforms, right? I think this is one of the instances where one mode was sacrificed due to the enormous size of the figure. I think when designed, the guys in charge put emphasis on size first, electronics and interaction with legends/cyberverse later, and then all else.

This figure has been lowered to $109.99 on most transformers sites such as: BBTS.COM and TFSOURCE.COM. Theses are the two most reliable sites and where I order most of my figures from. I have mine preordered with BBTS.

I pre-ordered mine from a new local store, with the S&H, and custom fees he comes out cheaper than the other places.

The robot mode lookss fantastic, but the alt modes are just meh. At the very least, after more than a quarter century, you'd think they'd have found a better way to hide the head.

If TRU UK get MP Soundwave in that's a purchase though.

Its the poorly realised alt modes. I would have expected a bit more 'City' in the City mode.

On the plus side, ebay will no doubt soon be awash with even more old-school Metroplexes so I might be able to pick up a cheap one of those, like i did with my Stunticons following those third party doo-dahs coming out :)

The original's not really anything to write home about, and it's relatively faithful to that.

I'm really excited about Metroplex - pre-ordered the Takara version (looks the nicest to me, and if you're shelling out for a giant Transformer may as well get the version you prefer!).

I don't mind the G1-esque alt modes - that's who Metroplex is, but, frankly, he'll be displayed in robot mode anyway!

I just hope the Generations version doesn't have a spindly waist apt to snap like the G1 toy... G1 Metroplex was one of my most exciting Transformers gifts when I was a kid, but quickly became a disappointment a day or two later when he snapped in half... (G1 Megatron was a similar disappointment, but it took less than a day for him to disintegrate - so I guess the Masterpiece version is actually an improvement on QC...)

The painted but non-chromed thighs definitely work better IMO. Hopefully the chrome on the face won't be too distracting.

Mine is on order, will be shipped tomorrow. I was thinking to post my annual review on him. Metroplex is one of my favorite characters/toys from my childhood. This massive toy seems to be one of the hollow-fomers though....I wonder how much actual heft this big boy has.

So far BBTS.com has an August 1st Ship Date, Toys"R"Us has August 15th. I admit I am surprised to see that TRU is stocking him given the size and price.

TRU has 9/15 listed on the website. That's September 15th.

Still the case? I've been back to our local TRU recently, and there's FoC and BH stuff been added but no longer anything MP I could spot.

Yeah - I traveled to a few TRUs and failed to find any, so ended up ordering him. Great figure!

That the Merry Hill one? I had fun there when I brought my MP Prime due to them putting the security tag in the single most stupid and hard to reach part of the packaging possible. And then the staff at the entrance got a bit pissy after the checkout girl (understandably considering where it was placed) failed to remove it, and I became rather insistent on the point as I didn't want to set off every alarm in every other shop in the centre. I think I had to reach inside the side of the packaging myself to rip it off after they just insisted it wasn't their problem.

For added fun, after the alarm went off, and they'd checked I had the receipt for the 100 pound toy, they insisted on doing a big song and dance of getting the checkout girl on the phone in order to make sure I'd paid the ten pence for the bag (for which I'd turned down the receipt saying "Don't worry about that, it's not as if anyone would think I'd spend this much on a toy whilst stealing a bag!").

Soundwave is listed on TRUs website for £119. Acid Storm is £74.99 and the same, place holder listings..? Minimum order of 2 each and due mid-August.
