Just don't fall into the trap of those kinds of relationship where there's constant reconciliation and breakup between you two. Being just friends is nice but remember why you two split in the first place and leave it at that.

I had a few opportunities for that but my EX has just gotten a bf and I didn't want to ruin a budding relationship so I didn't do it.. now I kinda regret it.

thats why i wasn't about to let my ex ask me back, and as such made a complete ass of myself (ok, it was the only plan i could come up w/ real quick)

Yeah, in the "trying way too hard to impress" kind of way... the same goes for the incense and the educate yourself crap. IMO anyway.

As for the porn thing, that'd probably make me wonder, yeah... People make porn out to be a bigger deal than it is sometimes, I think...

Be yourself would be my advice. Do the nice things yes, but don't compromise or alter your own beliefs to impress. People may have said it doesn't work... but it's a waste of time to pretend to be something you're not, in my eye. They're gonna find out who you are in the long run if it goes that way anyway...

It should only be a big deal if you are watching it at work and your boss catches you.

I agree with your other points Said, but I think it's the thought that counts. A girl is going to like you no matter how many candles you have, even if it is zero.

Self-education's always good, and sharing's good... it's when people come off as posing with it that's either funny or off-putting...

The pr0n thing is a tip from the same friend of mine who dragged us out to buy some for another friend after she discovered he'd never owned any. It's so nice having a laid-back peer group.

red and white wine, mixed drink, jazz musician, classical musician, obscure dream travel destination, Baroque artist, 18th century artist.

Really can't see myself gelling with anyone to whom those are major concerns. Lessee... I can't stand wine in general, can mix a passable cocktail, will listen to jazz or classical but don't namecheck much beyond Satchmo and Beethoven's Moonlight, could just about recognise the palace at Versailles, and will happily wander around galleries but find written art of the last thousand years or so far more interesting.

I think it helps to be confident no matter the topic, but to be honest if you really have no idea whose paper on fertility rites as depicted on red finish Grecian urns they just referenced.

We kinda split because too much happened too fast (for her especially), and neither of us was really watching each other. Also, there were a whole bunch of bad things happening to her last month, so it was a really bad time.

That might be true for mediocre girls, but speaking from experience, attractive, sophisticated women often demand a little more "bang" for their buck, in every sense of the expression. Explain to me precisely how arming yourself with cursory knowledge in the listed variety of subjects can be anything but a boon to your dating pursuits, not to mention your own self-esteem and self-image. I never once suggested that one's dates or interactions with people should or would consist of regurgitation of the knowledge gained. Rather, if the girl happens to possess an interest in one or more of those subjects, when she breaches it, you can chime in with your own thoughts, rather than standing back and possibly being unable to share her interests. Women love being able to relate to men on an intellectual level, and when the man demonstrates knowledge about a subject that the woman is passionate about, the woman will universally see that as a positive. Based on the few beautiful women I've been with, that much is indisputable, and certainly not "crap," as you chose to state it.

Or posing. Nothing substitutes for genuine interest—and having an opinion on everything can be a less-than-attractive quality, particularly with subjects a person doesn't know a great deal about.

A demonstrated interest in learning (communicating, listening)—that I can see being attractive, and essential to a relationship (with the caveat that most people enjoy having a few personal specialities.) By all means, people should cultivate wider interests and a regard for history, but stringing out a few bits of knowledge only works until the bluff is discovered. Be rather than act.
