So we have various Alt - ID's ...

Post by Tempest » Thu May 26, 2005 6:21 am

Yet mine is axed ...

http://tfarchive.com/community/member.p ... serid=5265

I know we have a 'no Alt - ID' policy on the board yet we have various other members running around with them and mine gets death. Odd. I won't name names, you all know who they are, and when I say this I'll get the usually "your a wanker" or the the 'Shut the f*** up monkey" comment, which pretty dodgy if you ask me.

But don't worry, with-in an hour or two of this it'll either get locked, deleted or I'll get flamed for it. As well as title change of some humorous nature.

It doesnt just happen to you, my alt account was banned too when I took it too far. Besides, I liked this one more. Although I tried again a few days ago, but that didnt work either...oh well back to the porn.

Tempest whining when your have been caught out doing something wrong will not help your cause.

Next time when you want to complain, do it when you have the moral high ground not when you've just been caught breaking the rules. This makes you sound like a whinying naughty boy who is in a huff because he was caught breaking the rules.

As far as I know there aren't any/many known alt IDs around. The mods have been nuking them.

If you have a real concern about alt IDs then I'd support you. But if you had a real concern you would PM the admins with the evidence there is another alt ID about otherwise your causing board disharmony just so you get a sympathy vote for breaking the rules. Grow up.

We have a "by sufferance" policy. i.e. They're entirely at the whim of staff.

For the love of Buddha, you should consider yourself lucky. You barely contribute enough to justify you having one account... and you think you should be allowed two?

Damn. Flounder's dead. Boy I'm gonna miss those... uhm... posts saying "look at me, I'm looking for attention" and a halfassed "witty" comment tagged on...

Let us mourn.

This isn't the best conversation to be having whilst posting from an alt-ID, B...

In a nutshell. The amount of time anyone has for chasing around after multiple accounts is very limited. Those known to currently exist are in the hands of people who are extremely unlikely to do things to get themselves banned, get their internet service hacked, etc. In other words, they're "safe".

... I thought that was you...

Ahem.

Actually, I thought it was the perfect thread to use an alt ID in, even if it is a communal account. Just having a little fun...

I warrant lots of accounts because my brilliance cannot be contained by just the one, dammit. :(

Eh, does anyone really need an alt-id? It's easy enough to get a mod/admin to change your name if you're sick of you old name . . .

Can anyone actually give a justifiable reason for them?

Flaming people without them knowing it's you, obviously.

Maybe certain people don't like the idea of having their name changed permanently and like the flexibility of being able to revert back at their leisure.

No, unless they're working with the forum software.

eg, There's a "Visions of Cybertron" one I habitually use for testing.

I guess so. Of course, I have no problem with letting someone know it's me telling them to **** off, but maybe that's just me.

I guess I can see why someone would want that, but I seem to get along fine without that luxury.

That makes sense. You don't wanna do something to accidently nuke your main account, but if you had a dummy account, it wouldn't matter if it got nuked or not.

Not quite. I use the account with access privs to obtain data from and modify the test account (which sees the forums as a regular user would.)

Plus the forum's just an abstraction layer on top of the FTP and db. For all its relative complexity, a bulletin board is still just a pull system.

I think he was being sarcastic.

Is it really considered an "alt-id" when it is a subconscious manifestation of three very distinct personalities?

Now then, onto the axing of Tempest's other half...what purpose did it serve? Honestly, I nail you with an insult one night and you make an account out of it? Seriously, do you require that much attention that you need to get insulted on two accounts instead of just one?
