Had this discussion/argument with a gender theory lecturer, and I think our generation is more inclined to use it as a unisex term.

I really do hate to say this, but....

Half the female students in the local middle/high school... from everything I've heard, girls(11-18) around here are thinking that sex is sure fire ticket to popularity and will net them a steady boyfriend.

I live not too far outside of Philadelphia, PA, so there's the influence of the teens from there, plus what they see on tv, in movies, etc. Also, many have older sisters who have had sex at early ages, had a kid at a young age, etc., and think its okay to do that.

So, thats what I think of when I hear that word.

I think I have never used the word slut in a mean way. I have always used it when "talking dirty" to a girlfriend....

To be honest, I think that using slut in a demeaning way is just like using whore, bitch, or the c word in a demeaning way.

Well, my ex once remarked that she liked playing Rizzo in Grease because "It was fun to play the slut." However, when she played it with me once, she got scared and shut me out, so I think of ruined relationships, due to repression.*
