Green Lantern Has Been Cast

He's played both Hannibal King and Deadpool for Marvel, campaigned for the role of The Flash, and is married to the Black Widow. Now actor Ryan Reynolds has won the title role in Warner Bros.' film adaptation of DC Comics' Green Lantern.

According to both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, the 32 year-old Canadian beat out the likes of Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake and Jared Leto for the part of pilot-turned-cosmic hero Hal Jordan.

Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, The Mask of Zorro) directs from a screenplay by Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Filming is expected to begin this January in Australia after Reynolds wraps the thriller Buried.
Hmm I'm not completely sure what to think about this, he's not my first choice (Fillion and Boreanez would be first and second choices, course theyd be my choices for ANY role in any film), but I love Ryan Reynolds personally, and do think that without the humour and quips he would be ok (see pic in link for a view of him in 'serious' mode) but I had been hoping that were he to play any DC character it would be The Flash.

I was also hoping Bradley Cooper would get the role, I like the guy, and think his look is pretty much a fit for Hal Jordan.

Damn! You beat me to it. I had the site copied and ready to paste!

Anyways, I'm not sure how I feel about this casting either. I like Ryan Reynolds as an actor, that being said, I've really only seen him in comedic roles. I haven't seen Wolverine yet to judge anything he's done in the action/comics areas. I too, would have better liked to see him as the Flash...

Hrm. It depends. on what sort of angle they take with the character. I could see him as Kyle Rayner, I don't really see him as Hal Jordan though.

Hmm, that's a good idea, Zisteau, him as Rayner. I could maybe see that – if he dyed his hair black/wore a wig, especially…

I’m actually somewhat along CP’s lines as far as Jordan casting. This subject came up yesterday at Whedonesque, and I realized that David Boreanaz might be the best fit of any actor available for how I envision Hal. I’ve also liked the idea of Nathan Fillion… but have decided that he’d be about perfect as Guy Gardener. Must be the smirk… (But he’d definitely need a bowl-cut wig, so as not to damage his “:o amazing hair ”)

I seriously doubt any studio would back either of those guys for the lead role in a hugely budgeted film that I'm sure GL will turn out to be. What I would like to see is a director of the type of Guy Ritchie or Tarrantino make a GL film based solely around Guy Gardner being a total intergalactic asshole. Screw Jordan and Raynor, Gardner is where its at.

Greenpool?

Deadlantern?

I like Ryan Reynolds, so I'm happy with this. The only Lantern I have any real awareness of is John Stewart.

Word on the street was that Chris Pine was slated for the Hal role; last I heard.
