Anyone else picked these up yet? Well, bought one set and preordered another.

I'm working my way through the episodes slowly. I'd forgotten how much fun the show was. And the safety tips at the end are so bad they're excellent. Especially the one where T-Bob sticks a fork in a toaster. Class.

As a DVD set, they're nothing spectacular. Simple menus and no extras. But they're cheap. Less than £12 for each volume (of which there are two, one not out yet as I said).

38 in the first volume, leaving 37 for the second.

I finished watching the whole series about 6 months ago. Wait till you get to the racing series. Everyone says it sucks, but I found it rather pleasing because of all the new and updated vehicles and characters.

I just downloaded all mine on Rapidshare. Still got the links if anyone wants them.

Maybe for you bastards! I've got to order some bootleg version or some crap. How the hell does that work? How come you guys over in the UK get DVD sets that we don't get here? It's not fair.

I hope this set is as good as y'all say. I'm quite looking forward to watching it.

Multi-region DVD players are common enough -- I suppose the stumbling block for your continent is likely to be lack of PAL hardware. Most stuff over here seems to do PAL and NTSC.

Should work fine on a PC with a little software help, though.

Ok but isn't that just a matter of how the disc is encoded or whatever? The show can't be made to work for region 1 DVD players?

I'd think it would have more to do with there not being an agreement that allows the show to be released in the US. What I don't understand is how that whole situation plays out. There has to be more money in it for whoever owns the show to get it out to the fans here in the US too rather than just the UK. They can't just get it worked out?

See, my point is I don't understand why they didn't have the US release first or at the same time. I always thought you were bound to see a US release of most things in advance of other places but that doesn't seem to be the case with some of the releases of these old cartoons.

TFs always come out first in the US right?

Hey Hound, just buy a cheap Philips player. They usually come out of the box region free and convert PAL to NTSC. That's how I watched a slew of UK only 80's tv.

Was M.A.S.K. any good?

Didn't the Japanese stuff get released here first? Are there US box sets of Masterforce, etc. now, for that matter?

With licensing carved up into territories, it doesn't follow that companies can do simultaneous releases or even release in the US. They may end up licensing their remasters to an American IP firm who already own the local rights, like various TF audio/video sources have done the rounds.

And unless there are serious reforms of relevant law, a lot of stuff's going to hang around in limbo.

Robots in Disguise is also only out in the UK for wacky legal reasons. Did Visionaries ever get a proper US release?

Nah, the Sony one I got is multi-region and all that. I just don't get all the legal crap that means I can't just go over to Best Buy and get these DVD sets there.

From what I understand, Rhino Records released Transformers, GI Joe, Jem, and Inhumanoids. Only Transformers was released complete. The other Sunbow titles suffered from low sales and never were finished. Hence, Rhino didn't even bother with Visionaries. It's a shame too because I enjoy watching 80s animation. Cartoons from that era are a nice change from the current product.

It's a shame. All we can do is wait. What Sony mulit-region do you own? Does it upconvert to 1080i?

M.A.S.K was ace. A bit simplistic now (I remember it through rose tinted glasses obviously), but still great fun. I'm enjoying it anyway.

I am so glad that M.A.S.K. is out on DVD. I enjoyed the cartoon a lot. My favorite V.E.N.O.M. vehicles were Switchblade, Piranha and Jackhammer, while my favorite M.A.S.K. vehicles were Condor, Rhino and Gator. I especially enjoyed laughing at T-Bob (the egg-shaped robot that turned into a scooter) and Scott Trakker (son of Matt Trakker who is the pilot of Thunderhawk and leader of M.A.S.K.), even the dry had a lot of dry humor. I still thought that it was a classic cartoon show of the 1980s.

How is the series' quality compared to 80's TF cartoon (which is mostly very poor IMHO)? Would it work without nostalgic attachment?

I suppose my next "watch through" project is going to be disappointment anyway. At the moment half through my Batman:TAS complete box set.
