I work at Blockbuster Video

Post by DrSpengler »

I am a clerk at a video store. I worked from 8pm to 5am last night for only $6.32 an hour.

The guy who is a year younger than me and has only worked there for a few months gets paid $6.50 and hour.

WTF?

I hate my job and I ESPECIALLY hate the customers. I think I'm gonna go toss a couple tapes in the trash can now without checking them in.

Customer: But I swear I returned your tapes!

Me: Well, they aren't here to no you didn't. That'll be $40 to replace them. Cash, check or credit?

Word to the wise: Do not work at Blockbuster!

Ranger can back me up on this...

I hate Blockbuster. >:o(

Blockbuster keeps calling and asking me to return some tapes and pay late fees . Problem is, I don't have an account with them. Oh yea, my name isn't Roger Douglass, but they say it is. Even when I explained it to one person, I got a call from another. They haven't called for awhile though. ^_^

Roger Douglass is on my list. >Bo|

Way to go on the customer service.
But having never worked in retail, I don't understand the assholeness of customers. My friends who have say that they're all idiots, so I don't suppose you can be blamed.

Trust me, when you work with the general public, you begin to worry about our species. Some people are stupid, some are jerks, and far too many don't understand that a simple please and acting politely can do wonders for how much service you get.

Ballbuster, er, Blockbuster Video sucks all ass. They have a crap selection and most of their employees couldn't work the cash register unless they had a gun to their head. Every manager should have a tattoo of a prick across his forehead. And the customers... when I stand at the head of the line there, it looks like a f*ckin' Darwin chart. Guy at the end of the line is holding several of his selections with his prehensile tail...

Spengs, I'd recommend dumping that gig pronto.

Blockbuster is the Microsoft of the video rental market.

I don't feel bad about Blockbuster, but there was this one time I returned a video game late to this one store, but when I went there the next time, they said that I had returned it late.

Needless to say, I was miffed.

They tried to take me to court over late fees. There was this large case in Texas about a guy who had a countersuit against them it was printed on the back of one of my receipts. I now only patronize local mom and pop stores.

I'm failing to see the logic here, man...the problem is what, exactly?

Here's an idea of mine:

I put on my blockbuster uniform but change the nametag and wear a hat which obscures my face. I then go to a blockbuster store located a city or two over at around 6 or 7 am. I bring plenty of plastic bags and wait patiently outside the drop box for an hour or so. People come by with tapes I'll tell them "The dropbox is full and we've lost the key to unlock it. I'll take your tapes and check them in when we open up." Of course I'll say it with a smile. In about an hour I'll have a couple hundred DVDs. I then take them home and sell em on Ebay. I could sell them for a buck each and I'll still make a profit.

Hmmm.....I should put my theory to the test...

BTW, every morning we get about a half dozen idiots who try to return Hollywood Video tapes to us. "But I thought all you video stores were the same." You goddamn f*cking little moron! No, we are not all the same! Get out of my sight!

*sigh*

Well I think your plan just might work if they are so stupid to think that the whole movie renting industry is run by the same business
But I’d watch your back when you do that because there has to be one intelligent person enough to go inside and turn it in and then tell the manager of that store that “someone’s trying to steal the tapes” in which case if they go inside I suggest run like hell
You know what would be cool is if you could get a electronic magnet or whatever they call it and then you could erase all the VHS just like in that movie fight club although I don’t know if that really works but that sure would piss off a whole lot of customers

Yeah, it sucks working there. If you want to make any serious money, you have to put in the ****ty hours like 5pm to 12am, and that's not counting inventory.

Not to mention, they don't even bother to upgrade the computer systems to make it easier to use. Plus, customers are so sloppy with that new release wall. As soon as finish straighting it, the customers ruin it. So as a result, nobody can tell where **** is. Then every weekend, it's the same question: "Do you have **** in stock?" If it's not in the wall, then it's not in. I hated when people asked me to check the drop box on saturday looking through like mountian of tapes. Then comes the customers who say they return stuff in time. Here's a tip guys, it's impossible to say that you returned the tape like around 12:10, and not want to pay the late fees, cause the computers allow for an additional 2 hours for movies to be checked in past noon. And they check the drop box like every 30 minutes.

If you're a CSR, you have like 5 jobs in one, if you were working at another store. Not only do you have to check in stuff, but you're a cashier, floor person, and you mark up all inventory.

Annoying, yes.

At K-mat, I was electronics, ran that register, covered that dept as customer service, dealt with photos and problem srelating to, mixed paint, covered sporting goods on breaks.

Ahh, yeah. I also had to run auto half the time, furniture and stationary all the time, and house hold good almost all the time.
Organizing all of thst stuff when I could.

That means I was calling for someoen on the floor to help with the furniture carry outs, or most often doing them myself. That means I was forced to abandon the electronics counter to carry furniture to people's cars.

Too much stuff for 1 man.

My main reason for visiting Blockbuster? Cheap used videogames! :)

Thank you Ranger.

This weeks work schedule for Spengs is as follows:

Tues 5pm-10pm
Fri 6pm-1:30am
Sat Inventory (usually 1am-5:30am)
Sun Noon-5pm

Sunday's gonna suck because I'm going to get all of 4 hours of sleep. My fatass mamnager hates my guts and gives me the ****tiest hours and treats me like absolute garbage.

So I gotta work those hours and attend school 5days a week. Nice.

Ya know what I like to do with annoying customers?

THey piss me off, I write down their account number. When I get the oppertunity I gather about half a dozen soft core porn tapes and then rent them out on her account. I then toss the tapes in the dumpster. After that I just play the waiting game. It's quite fun.

So just a word of caution, before you treat a video store clerk like **** just take a moment to remember 2 things.

1: Their job is a lot more difficult then it looks.

and

2: They have your phone number, your address and your credit card number on file. They'll get even if motivated to do so.
