I found this article in Time Magazine:

Aside from the fact that it says that Zack De La Rocha was the weakest link to Rage Against the Machine; it goes on to say that before Audioslave got together, Chris Cornell said that he didn't want his songs to be political. And Tom Morello and the rest of the band agreed to this!

But wasn't politics RATM's best quality? I mean I love their music, but the thing that set them apart was their radical stance for social activism. At the end of the article, it says that Audioslave's album is filled with songs about wounded-love. Wounded Love! Every ****ing band on the planet sings about that! Cornell has taken one of the greatest bands of all time, and turned them into something that is average at best.

I am very disappointed.

Rage - political activists? I think that was more of a publicity thing. I mean, didn't they rail against capitalism at the same time they were doing Adidas ads?

Well, RATM have been called hypocrites because they speak out against big business, yet they make music videos and are under the Sony record label... and I guess the adidas add would tie in too.

But how can they get their message across if they don't sign on to a record label and aren't able to reach people all over the world? The internet wasn't around in 1992, so how could anybody possilby hear their message unless they get their music played in the mainstream?

And I don't know if this is why they did the Adidas add, but I would asume it is because other socialist music groups like Run DMC and Public Enemy also supported Adidas.

If you're going to be about political activism and awareness, don't go on ****ing Total Request Live on MTV. That's all I can say about Rage towards the end. No wonder Zach got the hell out. And maybe the other guys just wanted to play some music without worrying about the message overshadowing the music? I liked the Audioslave disc, but apparently I was the only one who wasn't expecting it to be Rage...

I didn't expect rage but I didn't expect the music to absoluley suck either, which it did. Why I hate it.

Eh... "Cochise" is a decent tune at best. Not enough to make me run out and buy the album though. I don't get why everyone is making such a big fuss over 'em... though that may be because I wasn't an absolutely huge fan of either RATM or Soundgarden, though I've heard songs from both and think that RATM was cool...

oh calm down, just because he said something bad about your favorite band doesnt mean you should get all pissy about it. Its his opinion about Rage, I for one have a moderately similar one. Never liked Rage, and I thought their whole activism thing was just a charade

Awg, I wasn't expecting Rage Against the Machine either, but I didn't expect Audioslave's music to be so... generic, so plain. Nothing special at all, no surprises whatsoever. Too straight-forward rockmusic to be interesting; though that's a matter of taste, of course. If this was a brandnew band with no famous names in it whatsoever, they wouldn't sell even a fraction of the records they're selling now on Rage's and Soundgarden's reputation alone.
Anyways, Pitchfork did quite a devestating review on this album.... Interesting read. With the painful conclusion being "Duck, because America's gonna vomit."

Well, it is somewhat refreshing to hear Tom Morello play guitar in a conventional manner in a few places.

Though I disagree with it, that review ruled. Even if it seemed as if he'd made his mind up before actually listening to the disc... I'm gonna have to browse some more reviews at that site when I have the time.

Cornell is the best part of Audioslave. His vocals alone can carry the band. I'll admit the songs are average and dull besides his vocals but listen to songs like "Set it off", "Exploder"(creepy lyrics man.) hes amazing there. Like look at Euphoria Morning, I can't listen to anything but him on that CD. I would rather hear something else, but due to the fact that I like Chris a lot as a singer I had to get this CD.

Or kill the band. His vocals are horrible and it is the main thing that pushed me away from liking their music.

I'll always love the guitar rifts and so on...but the lyrics are just so blah...they've become the everyband of the 21st century, and part of RATM was that they were unlike anyone else when they first hit.

I'd defy you to distinguish between Audioslave and 20 other bands out there now as opposed to RATM compared to the Foo Fighters and the Cherry Poopin...er...Popping Daddies, etc.

I come and go... mainly I'm playing Police Quest 3 on a computer that makes the driving so fast I always hit the curb.

Anyways Audioslave hit "Certified Gold" whatever that means.

It's funny how when big bands break up and try again later in different forms how they usally suck.

Iam howver looking forward to seeing what the orginal GNR *sans Axel* release as Slash, Duff and I forget the other two are forming a band they just need someone for lyrics.
