one hit wonders......that we're actually kinda good!

Post by Mirage »

y'know those songs you hear and never actually hear anything more from the singer ever again?

you do? cool!

right, what I'm looking for is a few songs from each of you that were really cool, but not exactly album material. When I say not album material I mean they never quite literally got an album release, except maybe on some random god awful compilation cd!!!! Now even if you think people will laugh at you with the songs you put, don't worry, it's only cus they're not happy with their inner child (not just limited to pregnant archivers!)

like, say, uhm........

The Tokens - Lion Sleeps Tonight =(c'mon, everyone knows it, it's more feel good than uhm, something not dodgy that makes you feel good)

Sabrina - Boys, Boys, Boys - (it really does have a cool music combo, and yes I have been caught singing it in my hometown at the traffic lights not noticing some guys walking past and noticing me not noticing them singing the song, possibly quite loudly!)

Chesney Hawkes - The One and Only - (Wow, an anthem of the late eighties, but hey when you're drunk and it comes on, we can all turn in to the one and only!)

Aneka - Japanese Boy - (sounding like a cheap Kate Bush but how catchy is that darn song?? a bass line to be in awe of)

Animotion - Obsession - (Just like the song says, 'I will collect and capture you', and that's exactly what it does to our minds!)

Altered Images - Happy Birthday- (just fantastic!)

Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby! - (love it or hate it, it is a pretty decent song, I listen to it, I know the words and I sing it now and again, and it's kinda cool)

Daisy Chainsaw - Love Your Money - (fabtastic early UK grunge music)

Transvision Vamp - I Want Your Love - (...and didn't we just, anywho, I know they did more than this but like, this is the one everyone instantly thinks of)

.....and now, possibly one of the greatest songs ever written.........

Toto Coelo - I Eat Cannibal! - (A great song and ultimately more eighties than almost anything else ever, quirky, catchy lyrics, drum beats pounding out oin the background, all I wanna doooooooo, is make a meal of youuuuuuuuu, we are what we eeeeeeeat, you're my kind of meeeeeat)

Let's give these artists the coolies they deserve!

No, it's not. The blatantly stolen bass riff from "Under Pressure" gets a

Alright, stop, collaborate and listen, I never said it was original, and even though the song does blatantly have that bass line, taking the song on face value as an individual song, regardless of whether it took this or it took that, the song as a stand alone product is cool.

It is a tiny bit of a difference, but the key words in any copyright case is "strinkingly similar"

They sound enough alike that Queen receives a royalty anytime Ice Ice Baby is played publicly.

Bah, I don't know which cheesy 80s music got on an album and what didn't. So I'll go with what I do know.

Rosso O Nero by Mauro Picotto - A chillout version of Like This Like That. Really relaxing and really, really good.

Bomfunk MCs - Freestyler - Just ace.

Brainbug - Nightmare - Really interesting song. As far as I know, it's totally unique. I can't give a base of comparison because it sounds like no other dance tune I've heard before or since.

Culture Beat - Mr Vain - Calling Mr Raiden. Calling Mr Wrong. Calling me insane. I know what I want and I want it now. I want you. Coz I'm Mr Vain. Or something... I like this tune anyway.

PJ & Duncan - Let's Get Ready to Rumble - I don't know a single person who doesn't admit to liking this when pushed.

There. That'll do for now.

I think I know all the words to that song too. Legends, the both of them.

I saw an episode of Dick & Dom in the Bungalow yesterday. Those two seem vaguely similar to Ant & Dec. I enjoyed the show too, strangely.

The Vapors- Turning Japanese. I mean come on who knew it was about wanking?

Soft Cell- Tainted Love.

EMF- Unbelievable just a great song regardless.

There probably are hundreds more but just thought of these while getting ready for work.
