My God, Machineman is brilliant!

Post by Cliffjumper »

I got myself a Godaikin Machine Dolphin today, and did the usual prep I do for a toy review - nosed around Youtube for some screengrabs to steal. I found a clip of the TV series, and it's probably the most brilliant thing I've ever seen.

(Really kicks off from about 1:20, before that it looks a bit dodgy...)

1. Tokusatsu dubbed into Portugese is just bizarre
2. The delayed blocks on the bullets!
3. He does an M on the bad scientist's chest with his sword! Which seems to... make him not bad...
4. He attacks people with a... sentient baseball?
5. The editing is just mental.

Heh heh heh heh.... It's like the cheapest of Power Rangers footage with an anime-wannabe "super-duper-weapon" sequence and maybe a touch of Jet Jaguar from Godzilla vs. Megalon goofiness. And our hero is just Clark Kenting it with the largest Clark Kently glasses he could get, isn't he? I'll give them some originality points for the guy turning into a car, though.

And oh, that poor baseball! :sweatdrop:swirly:

From what I can gather, he even has a Lois Lane-a-like reporter friend who doesn't recognise they're the same person (to be fair, at least Machineman wears a mask). Obviously, I'm gathering this from Brazilian dubs, so I could be very, very wrong. I do like the way the car turns into a cellophane cape as well.

Wow, it is a bit of derivative soup, isn't it? And wait... the cape is his car? It seems you're doing fine with gathering info - better than me, at the least....

So... what exactly is the Machine Dolphin, anyway? Does his cape turn into that, too?

You think that shit is crazy...you should seek out Heroine Ellektolia. Its such a screwed up Japanese Sentai thing, I can't even tell you what it is about on here. ;)

Nice find.

1984 when we were getting our first glimpse of the Transformers.

Seiun Kamen Machineman and his trusty sidekick, Booru Boy, make a nice contrast.

It's amazing how little the Power Rangers-type show motif has changed.

I was midly interested but it gets cranked up a notch when he pulls out the living baseball?! What the hell, possibly the funniest thing I've seen in ages, the little screams as the baseball gets clobbered about.

Worst secret weapon ever.

I have no idea what's going on by the way which totally adds to it's charm.

The evil robot with a hammer for a hand getting out of the car was beautiful. I wish I could come up with that kind of stuff.

I do like the way they drive around in a perfectly ordinary saloon.

But yeh, the breakdown moment is when he hurls Ball Boy at the bastard. I mean, christ, Ball Boy's plainly not a weapon, he's a small sentient friend of Machine Man who just happens to be about the right size and shape to throw at someone. Look at it. That is really hurting the little fella.

Oh, goodness, Cliffy - under that steely exterior lurks the heart of a real softie...

;)

Why is there no smilie for 'crossing fingers'?
