Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Appreciate the offer, but I don't have much use for a Breakdown anymore. I got rid of most of my figures from the Prime show after it became obvious that something like 1/4 of the 20-character cast were never going to get released outside of Japan. I think I only have Starscream and Bulkhead left of...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Filch is probably the one that stands out most for me from that bunch. Always liked her, though I couldn't rightly tell you why. Cannonball and Lockdown both look good too, but neither are figures that I'm all that interested in getting for a second time. Cybertron Starscream looks cool, but I'll pr...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

I agree about Skywasp. I saw the green version in store at clearance, and still wasn't interested. But, I'm quite pleased with my Buzzworthy black one. That makes me think...I'm pretty sure I never even saw that Waspinator in person, but I've managed to easily get my hands on both exclusive repaint...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Colour scheme can make such a huge difference on how I perceive a figure! I got Buzzworthy Skywasp in the mail today. I think the figure technically represents two characters? I think it's Skywasp with the Buzz Saw head, and Parasite with the Waspinator one. The latter is definitely the winner of th...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

A more "Marvel" repaint of the Legacy Bludgeon seems most likely, though not especially exciting. I wouldn't be super surprised to see Siege or Earthrise Megatron done up as the inner robot or "Destructicon Bludgeon" from RiD. Not sure what other options there'd be...SS 'Gamer' M...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

That Shockwave actually seems to be priced as a Voyager, surprisingly enough, even though they've replaced the extra limbs and guns with that disembodied Optimus head. But I'd agree that it's not especially appealing. I get what they're going for but they went overboard with the shading compared to ...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

I guess this is the place to bring up the upcoming Marvel figures ? Kind of surprised that a red-purple Soundwave wasn't first on the menu, though I suppose it's possible we'll see stuff like that, black-helmeted Megatron or blue Galvatron if these ones do well. I skipped the original SS86 Grimlock ...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Hmm... good point. New Magmatron is considerably larger than the old one, and more importantly has a measurable increase in articulation. New Omega Prime is basically the same size as the old one, only slightly bigger. Has someone taken comparison pics of the two Magmatrons? I had no real idea how ...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Is that a giant Krang at the front of the group? I keep meaning to get that Leatherhead, or one like it, for my kid. He wants one so that he can act out the boss fights from the games he's played. Glad you were able to track down a Bludgeon. It doesn't sound like yours lost the QC roulette any more ...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

I don't know enough about the original molds to say how similar or different this one is, since I never owned it. The new one looks really nice, though. I wouldn't buy it, but then again I wouldn't buy the originals either. I'm not a huge fan of the RiD design style in general, and I can't see mysel...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

I found a few figures I was looking for, on clearance at a local Canadian site. I guess the universe heard me bitching about how we never get discounts up here anymore and said "this'll shut him up"? Vintage Beast Wars Wolfang I'm still as perplexed as ever about what exactly Hasbro was do...

Re: What was your best set of figures of the year?

Yeah, Amazon search and failure to enforce grouping of listings is appalling enough to send me to eBay pretty often for things that are small, non-urgent and cheap. Amazon seem to take a bigger cut of the base price that means they can often be beaten on that stuff. But it's handy to be able to get...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

I'm guessing they can make a bit more money shipping the stuff over here. Possibly a minor factor of no language issues/relabelling with sales to the UK. Possibly that Hasbro doesn't want its leading brands liquidated in an obvious way in the US/Canada, plus exchange rates are generally prohibitive...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Got it! We had the same sort of phenomenon here a decade and a bit ago, but it didn't last very long. Just absolute scads of overproduced Movie, ROTF, Generations, Reveal the Shield, etc. figures flooding liquidators. Unfortunately, most liquidators don't seem much interested in stocking Transformer...

Re: What was your best set of figures of the year?

Over here, Prime customers (and it's worth the cost of Prime annually if you order at least a few things a month, and they partner with supermarkets and have a few original shows that I actually watch) can specify a preferred delivery day for in stock items, including weekends. Ethics aside, Amazon...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

How frequently are Transformers going on deep discount in the UK? I honestly can't recall the last time I've even seen a significant sale from Canadian retailers. The last one I can remember taking advantage of was Kingdom Rodimus for almost 50% off two Black Fridays ago. I know I've seen a few of t...

Re: What was your best set of figures of the year?

Depending where you shop, deferred delivery (e.g. Amazon day , or BBTS do a "pile of loot" thing) I'd never heard about Amazon doing this before! I can't find any mention of it on the Canadian site, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place? I'll have to keep an eye out in the future b...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Legacy Pointblank I've always had a soft spot for this character. I don't think I could tell you why. The original toy is a pot-bellied dork. I can't remember any examples of art that made him look cool. Maybe it was early onset completionism, since I owned Crosshairs and Sureshot as a kid and real...

Re: What was your best set of figures of the year?

Yeah, it's hard to see how a "Leader" Springer will be anything but an over-complicated and possibly slightly oversized Voyager. And all of the predictions online seem to be negative. Can't blame folks for not being excited for it...our yardstick for Leader-class Triplechangers are Astrot...

Re: What was your best set of figures of the year?

i honestly don't think I could do a top-ten this year. Looking back at the spreadsheet I keep of stuff that I buy, it looks like I bought 16 2023 releases...but I've either completely forgotten about, or actively dislike, most of them. Let's see how far I can get with the stuff I actually enjoyed! U...
