Re: Who is Cyclonus (G1)

The answer seems to be neither and Unicron used raw materials and added personalities. More personality in e.g. the UK comics, of course, or they broke free of their programming more when they were further away from Unicron's control. This does make a reasonable amount of sense if Unicron and Primus...

Re: Does anyone know why G1 season 3 was so shitty?

TBH any semblance of quality before that was due to people putting in more effort than was expected for toy tie-in shows and other media. Great voice actors and a bit of the writing and animation was above standard, but it was a fairly low effort industry. As far as S3 went... continued outsourced p...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

I'd have been happy if Crankcase had actually had the cannons. Or with Windsweeper any effort, since the chances are it was a pre-tool and the option for matching guns (or even non-targetmaster cannons) could have been included. Origins has been a weird run... some figures that didn't rely on mouldi...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

Assuming I get a set, if you're at all interested in working something out for the Breakdown it'll probably end up with a nephew otherwise. No connection to Prime, personally, and cross-generation bundling is particularly annoying. There was a 3P Crankcase variant of an Ironfist (reportedly quite a ...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

I'd've bought one of those if I ever found one that wasn't covered in battle damage or cel shading. Did they ever make a normal one? I was hoping for the MP-36+ treatment, where the bot mode would be decoed like the G1 toy, just with a tank alt mode. Takara have announced one: https://www.kapowtoys...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

It'd just be for display, wouldn't expect it to transform with it on. The figure's large MP car bot scale so the head's a bit large and wide for a deluxe anyway. There's definitely a bit of the same design mentality that went into X-Transbots Apollyon (Megatron) with this one. The arms switch sides ...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

In the mail, the toy design version of X-Transbots Overheat aka Dragstrip as found one at a good price that specifically noted the shoulders had been fixed. I do like the recent update, but this hits more nostalgia buttons and I'm wondering about recasting some copies of the head for use on the Lega...

Always been more interested in exploring rather than beating the game or other people, personally, in the sort of games that are based around that. Or a quick round to remember what things were like. Mainly that's https://fuse-emulator.sourceforge.net/ or https://b-em.bbcmicro.com/arculator/occasion...

Re: Latest DVD Purchases

Likewise I think I've given up with CD players. Might as well just initially rip and sync over to a tablet. I'd forgotten about that... still rip everything pretty quickly but found an Oakcastle CD100 one that streams to speakers plugged into a Bluetooth receiver, which is rather handy and space-sa...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Legacy Motormaster for close to voyager RRP, which is reasonable. The trailer won't be doing anything any time soon, but might make a simple display piece when folded out. The cab and robot mode are decent oldschool voyager* in size and weight, and updating the design so that the (admittedly hefty)...

Re: Hey

I generally don't "buy" anything that the DRM can't be removed from. With Amazon/Audible that's trivial with normal ebooks/audiobooks. They don't really have any strong interest in making things too awkward for paying customers, and the publishing industry doesn't have that much leverage t...

Re: Hey

I think digital favours smaller publishers on the whole, and lets people (officially or unofficially) sample what they might like to pick up in TPB form. So given that comics shops are more collected editions and collectables than singles, it might be an overall plus for them... if they can compete ...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Kapow have some lightly water-damaged stock included in their sale now, including Kingdom Galvatron at 1/4 RRP: https://www.kapowtoys.co.uk/category/sale.html Reminds me of Doubledealer insofar as he feels like a substantial voyager, and like a decent bargain at appreciably less than twenty quid del...

Re: POST YOUR NEWEST ACQUISITIONS!

Transformers Retro The Transformers: The Movie Perceptor loose and complete for a decent discount, to go with the MC20 deco Selects figure and the TR one. Can't remember if I still have the RTS one in a tub somewhere, and having just googled it really don't care unless it's to borrow the head. On r...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

It'd be a harder sell to do Bludgeon again than Springer, Twin Twist, etc without more mould changes. The 'Destructicon' version as a voyager I could see some appeal in if the chest was remoulded (which would also let them double dip on another Western release of G2 Megatron, maybe the purple versio...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

If they've got any sense they'll pack an additional head in with Sandstorm rather than let it shelf warm. Who am I kidding? Yeah, I think Amazon would rather have fewer sales but more profit per item, due to the way they operate Prime. I like the MD sculpt (minus the paint) and Leadfoot, and the t-r...

Re: Grumpy old men: armchair brand management

I don't think IDW had any particular leverage or say in things. They were clearly thrown some bones with opportunities to do pack-in comics, and they've been a bit of a seam for designers to mine (after seeing the success of 3P stuff) but I'd be very surprised if they had anything to do with downpla...

Looks like the rest of the stock that Hasbro Pulse didn't clear itself ended up here too:

https://www.bargainmax.co.uk/brand/transformers.html

If anyone's still after Leadfoot, Scraphook, Leo Prime, etc. Free delivery on £10 or more, 10% off first order. Kind of tempted to get Motormaster.
