How well the Bay stuff will stand up in years to come is hard to say as it's hardly universally loved now, but ILM are usually pretty good at making things that stand the test of time. Compare their effects work on the Trek films to any of the ones they didn't work on for starts. Have you watched &...

EDIT: I like Annie Hall, and Manhattan... I don't think they're superb, but they're alright... With Manhattan it's the score and the cinematography that does most of the work, though - all films should look and sound like that. Yeah, I can agree with you on that. I just think Woody Allen would have...

And speaking of Mel Brooks and overrated...Mel Brooks is overrated. Every movie he makes tries to be a witty parody of something (genre convention, racism, etc...), a surreal farce and a juvenile romp full of dick jokes and fart noises all at once, and never manages to do as good a job of any of it...

@Dr. Spengler: I think Close Encounters is a good film. Definitely worth a watch and addictive in its way, like the first Jaws film. Its not mushy, hasn't been overly pastiched since (there's one or two obvious ones out there), and it made me want to watch all the way through to the end. Oh yeah, I...

I was still in high school when I first joined, so yeah, I was pretty much an ignorant dumbass when I started out in the wide world of Transformers forums. I'm pretty embarassed by a few of the really stupid, offensive things I posted back in '01-03, a few posts of which are saved for posterity in t...

EDIT: And according to the Allspark thread this service is bare bones minimimum stuff, on DVD-R's with no menus or restoration. So it might not actually be much better than the bootlegs... Yeah, I've bought a few of the Warner Archives releases in the past. While the no menus or special features or...

My only familiarity with that particular deleted scene is from the manga adaptation where it was included for some reason. Now that you mention the context behind Biggs's words to Luke, though, you can kinda tell that some dialogue seems to be missing. Here's how the exchange goes in the manga: &quo...

I think Luke was planning to sign up for some non-rebel related academy? Possibly even the one that leads into the Empire space service (in the radio adaptation version of the deleted scenes with Biggs it's clear he's only signing up for the academy so he can quickly jump ship and join the Rebellio...

I dunno, at the beginning of the movie, when Luke is talking to Uncle Owen, he mentions wanting to apply to some academy to join the Rebellion; the same academy Biggs apparently went to, I think. So I guess the Rebellion has its own military academy with recruiting stations taking applications and w...
