Premium Optimus Prime sword test shot

Post by Nevermore »

Current information:

The upcoming "Premium Series" versions of Leader Class Optimus Prime and Megatron were originally reported by and depicted in an issue of Lee's Toy Review.

Optimus features a retooled head sculpt and a retractable sword instead of the original release's gun.

Megatron appears to sport a retooled head sculpt as well.

Enertainment Earth confirmes that the two are scheduled for a general release (i.e. they're not exclusive to any particular store), as part of wave 6 of the Movie Leader Class assortment (the one after Deep Desert Brawl's wave), slated for an April 2008 release.

We have official Hasbro stock photos for Prime:

Apparently he will only sport a few silver paint applications, the rest remains in plain grey plastic (and to make matters worse, some paint applications on regular Leader Prime are MISSING).

Japan will also get their own version of Premium Prime, including the sword and the retooled head. Their version (MA-21 Optimus Prime Battle Mode, also slated for a mass release) appears to be sporting a chrome paintjob, unlike the Hasbro version. However, the only photo we have thus far comes from a Japanese toy show.

We also have a Japanese retailer solicitation showing not only a prototype of the sword, but also a close-up of the new head sculpt.

That is acceptable. I've held off on buying Megatron specifically because of the random blue and pink highlights.

Still crap-ass gray for the front grill and other chrome parts, so that's unfortunate.

And...I'm not 100% sure that's a better head mould, but it's hard to tell in these pics.

I don't like the head mold better, I think it looks worse.
The Flames look Better,
The sword looks stupid jutting out of the block that is Optimus's forearm. The Fold-Away Cannon looks much better.
Come on and wind me up.

OK, I been waiting to see more pics of the megatron, and I love that paint job. So much better then the first version that cant out at first, a must have for me. Now Prime, well, to me his new head sculpt reminds me of a rabbit or bunny or something of that nature. I picked up the night watch version, I love the paint job on that, and the only thing that is making want to pick up Prime is the sword. If there is somewhere I can order the sword by its self, then I will do that, but I cant spend money on something that dont look that good to me. Megs on the other hand, well my decepticons will have a leader now in the war.

It's too bad the only Leader I'm buying is Desert Brawl, because if I had the money for more than one Leader, I'd buy Premium Megs.
No longer looking for RID Dreadwind, but I still need Smokejumper. I'm also in need of Mammoth Nemesis Prime's tail piece, as my figure lacks it. Send me a PM.

Back of the packaging and bios, from the neverending land of internets auctions.

Prime

Megatron

Now checking back, we saw the back of Megs' box before, but not in this bio-readable size.

Premium Megs is looking sweet. Besides Premium BB, this may be the only other one of this line I pick up. Now, if I could only figure out what to do with the first Leader Megs I bought. Hmmmm...

Prime looks retarded. Whats with the bunny ears huh? So lame, somehow Hasbro has managed to take a great figure and make it look stupid. I will stick to my original, the add-on sword isnt worth re-buying this fig.

Now Megatron on the other hand looks amazing! Better than most customs i have seen of him! I will def be buying him thats for sure as i was put off the original release because of the awful paint.

So they have made prime look like crap, and made Megatron look awesome. I guess the universal balance is restored now.
