Chargertron!

Post by Tetsuro »

You know how in cartoons and comics, whenever they have to have a made-up toyline, they always give them the silliest and least creative names imaginable?

I bring Protagatron and Antagatron.

Turns out these guys actually have some kind of lore!
"In all Galactic lore, there is no story as tragic and hard fought as that of the Twin Princes of the Rival Moons of Planet Robotron. Each Prince was to rule his own moon, with the most successful ruler eventually becoming the new Emperor of Robotron. One of the Princes chose evil and destruction as his means to power, and set out to destroy the Good Prince, with the aid of Antagatron, a giant mutant Robot with the ability to charge up and launch a Tracker that changes to Attacker."
"Join this interplanetary combat by collecting both Antagatron and his rival Protagatron, the trusted ally of the good Prince, and create your own Galactic adventures."
Apparently Buddy L had a whole lineup with the umbrella title of Robotron and it's pretty much to Gobots what Gobots is to Transformers, but worse. Apart from Chargertron, I think every single toy is a knockoff of some other toy. The "leaders" are KOs of Xabungle and Iron Gear from the same series, the Dinotron are just slight retools of the dinobots in gaudy colours, and there's similar knockoffs of a handful of Gobots but with pullback motors thrown in. There's also a subline called Bugbots which seem to be based on the Deluxe Insecticons.

And just like Chargertron, the bad guys are all just recolours of the good guys.

And holy crap suddenly Ashens has a review of it.

If this was a dollar store toy, then it'd at least be sort of okay, the rev-up gimmick is kind of cool, but eight pounds!?
