sell/unsell me on cosmos

Post by eternalshades »

I was recently on a survivor thread on another forum.

I just started picking one I've never muched care for: cosmos: never liked his toy or overall design.

The person who started the thread just started going nuts and basically kept posting and ranting about the character.

What's so great about the character?

Also, what stinks about the character to get a balenced opinion?

He was a member of Blas...Perceptor's "BADDDDDDAAASSSSSSSS" unit. He killed two B-movie Deceticon/androids. He sounded like Peter Lorre in the cartoon. He's a Minibot; Minibots are cool and for the most part cheap. Let's not foget the E-Hobby Pathfinder repaint. Gobots rock!

er, out of curiousity, are you the same poster?

I could see it if it was a name, but his defining moment is saving the autobots from being sent to the sun in an episode involving a decepticon coloring book!

Yeh, that's nothing compared to the acheivments of Thundercracker, Skywarp, Sunstreaker, Prowl, etc. etc. and so on.

To be fair to Thundercracker, he was going to let Megatron's "Giant Gun on Mountain" plan fall apart and let Starscream take the blame.

That's worth more character points than the rest of season one put together...

Yeh, and he cocked it up, though.

Mind, I love that bit. Between that and a throwaway line in "War Dawn", there are cartoon-mad women (I wish I was stereotyping here...) who can write a 20,000 word dossier on his character.

**** me, it's hot.

My main memory of Cosmos was the fact that his head was incapable of staying up when you'd transformed him into robot mode - it always fell back down into its saucer-mode position. Oh, and the numerous generic deceptions he killed in the Smelting Pool issues.

Cosmos

Post by LKW »

Plusses for Cosmos: Interesting personality. Nice guy whose job ends up by necessity making him lonely a lot of the time. And, he had a cool voice - especially compared to most of his second generation mini-bot pals. Warpath, Powerglide, and even Mer-Man-voiced Seaspray could be annoying, aguably partially because of their voices. And, Brendocon makes a good point about his color, too :)

Negatives:The figure doesn't look as good as the character model. His exhaust ports don't look at all like hands, and the head is too rectangular. Also, his legs are stuck together (though that was another common issue with the year two mini-bots, Beachcomber being the only exception).

Overall, while it's a little hard to see why someone would go nuts defending him, I guess I do have an overall positive view of Cosmos. Which is probably why he makes a little cameo in the fanfic I'm currently (occasionally) working on, come to think...

Speaking as one of those women who can write a 20 000 word essay on Thundercracker :p , I'm actually convinced that he's younger than Starscream.

EDIT: As for why people like Cosmos? Because he can look badass like that. ;) (Makotron's art so rocks.)

All I'm going to say about Cosmos is that if I were of Mexican decent, then I'd be VERY OFFENDED. And not just because of the over the top, stereotypical accent. But also for the fact, that in my opinion, he was one of the lamest Transformers off all time. The Mexican Transfans deserved better than Cosmos.
"The incessant laughter alone, echoing through dark steek corridors, is enough to make one doubt the very exsitence of insanity." --Description of The Joker from Batman: Knightfall

(Transformers related? Nope. But it's still a cool sig and it could be applied to Galvatron. ;) )

But didn't Peter Lorre actually talk like that? Blame him for the stereotype then.
