Police Station

Red Alert shrugged.

"Well, it's a place to start, anyway," he told Raiku. "I'll rustle up a couple of uniforms to escort us, and we can get going."

He frowned.

"First thing's first, though. I don't know if it's a good idea for you to go out there looking like that." He paused, then added, "Like yourself, I mean. We've got a body shop in the back that we use to give our undercover officers temporary paint jobs when they need to go undetected. If you ask me, it'd be a good idea if you stopped in. They can outfit you with a new deco, and in a couple days once we've captured the people behind this, the pigments will break down and you'll be back to your old self again."

Red opened the door and gestured for Raiku to follow him out.

"So...what colour would you like to be for the next 48 hours?"

War Academy

Sentinel strode out of the War Academy, Topspin and the others presumably behind him. "Autotrooper squads five through nine, report to the War Academy!" Sentinel barked into his commlink. "Report to Prowl, tighten the security around here!"

Sentinel strode out, to meet a very irate Sky Lynx, who had an affronted look on his avian face. "I am only deigning to go with you," the primitive began, "only because it is needed to. Do not think that this matter is over."

"Yeah, yeah. Sue me, birdboy, I don't care. Right now I need to save lives." Sentinel snapped. True, in a sense. If Project M survives, it would indeed save lives.

Sky Lynx harrumphed, "So, how will my superior skills be utilized this time? And, indeed, where?"

Sentinel tapped a few buttons into his wrist, then said sharply, "Voice Authorization: Sentinel. Password-" upon which Sentinel broke off into what seemed to be a bunch of static.

Nothing seemed to happen, but Sentinel gestured at the massive Autobot insignia in front of the Academy. "Follow." Sentinel walked into the insignia, and Sky Lynx thought it was foolish- then Sentinel seemed to sink down. Sky Lynx reared his head back in surprise, then narrowed his optics. "Holograms, birdboy." Sentinel said, head bobbing up. "Autobots, let's go."

Topspin followed Sentinel outside where Sky Lynx met them. He too was unable to make out the gibberish that Sentinel spoke into the comm link, but watched as Sentinel dissapeared behind the illusion. "Nice hiding place." He said to no one in particular, and followed Sentinel through the opening.

Underground, War Academy

"It's a necessary precaution." Sentinel told Topspin.

"And if I may hazard a guess, the Council does not know anything about this arrangement. Neither do I, in fact." Sky Lynx said as he padded down behind Sentinel, his tone affronted. "And I am Lieutenant Commander of the Autobot military! This is an outrage!"

"Only four Autobots knew of the existence of this facility!" Sentinel snapped hotly. "This was exactly the contingency that we built this for."

"Because if the Senate or the Council knew about it, they would shut you down." Sky Lynx retorted. "Do you have any idea, Commander, why we have these rules?"

"Spare me the lectures, bird boy. We're royally screwed if we don't have a backup plan. And not even you can be everywhere at the same time."

"Get three more squads into the Border Regions. Damn it- we have too few men." Prowl was giving orders, placing units in preparation in case Megatron struck. Polyhex, Vos and Tarn are assumed to be enemy units, and the numbers do not do them justice.

And if Project M fails...

"Wheeljack, Highbrow, the engineering facilities of Iacon are open to you. Get to this address, it's the military's R&D facility, a facility codenamed Arsenal. Gong will take you there." Prowl told the scientists. "I am sorry we cannot be any more accommodating, but we need the drones or whatever countermeasures against this sixchanger. I apologize for the frank manner in which I am ordering you, but we really do not have any choice."

War Room, War Academy

Yoketron wasn't sure how long he'd spaced out, but when his thoughts returned to the room around him, he noticed the absence of several figures.

"Welcome back," Terabolt told him, her tone neutral.

Yoketron barely seemed to take note of it, his focus returning to Prowl. "Go after them, please," Yoketron spoke casually to the bot at his side.

"Roger," she answered, transforming into her cat-beast form, taking off into the hall, and snagging Sentinel's scent all without skipping a beat. Now that Yoketron was back in the concious world, she'd rather not have that blue troublemaker go unmonitored...

Raiku didn't answer Red Alert immediately. He rather liked his colors and was not interested in changing them, but he understood why it should be done. At the same time though he had far more important things on his mind then contemplating what he should use for his new latest style.

"I'll let the experts decide," He finally answered. It mattered little to him - somehow he doubted a simple paintjob would fool whoever was after him, but it might buy a little time perhaps.

Red Alert shrugged. "Have it your way," he shrugged. "Like I said, it's temporary, so it's not like you'll get used to seeing yourself like that before it wears off anyway."

He led Raiku into the back of the station, waving to the technician who was on duty in the spray booth.

"Hey, Rattlecan," he greeted the worker. "I've got a witness here who needs to look not like himself. Says he doesn't much care either way what colour you do him up as."

Rattlecan smiled, then offered his hand to Raiku. "A pleasure to meet you," he said. "If you'll step into the booth, we can get started."

Terabolt strided through the corridors at an even pace, following Sentinel's trail with easy confidence. By the time she reached the hologram wall she could sense her 'quarry' up ahead and did not even stop, leaping at the wall to knock it down, only to find pleasantly that it wasn't there. Cheep trick, cheep results. Should've invested in the fake wall.

Her stride unbroken, Tera would soon catch up to the group, spotting them up ahead. Terabolt made one more leap, clearing the rest of the distance and landing with a heavy thud between Sky Lynx and Topspin, still in cat-beast form.

"Well ain't this cozy."

Police Station

Raiku would not answer Rattlecan directly, seeming distracted again, but he would move compliantly into the booth, then wait for the process to begin.

Red Alert watched quietly as Rattlecan went to work, spraying Raiku with layer after later of paint. The tech worked quickly, and after a few minutes Raiku would find his usual colour scheme replaced with a flat grey and drab green.

"Well, there you go," he said. "This is only temporary, of course, so it'll only last for a few days. Once you see it fading, you'll need to come back for a touch-up."

Red Alert shrugged. "Something tells me this will be over before this is an issue," he said. "One way or another."

Then he gestured toward the door.

"We should move quickly," he told Raiku. "This disguise won't fool our enemies for long."

Underground, War Academy

(OOC: Hologram ground in front of the academy, Aero... :))

Sky Lynx glanced at Terabolt, and harrumphed, quite pleased to see someone that was not at Sentinel's beck and call. "Greetings, Temple Knight. You would think that being Lieutenant Commander would grant yours truly information, such as the existence of some sinister secret facility under our very War Academy, but noo...."

"Zip it, flyboy." Sentinel snapped, and pressed a button on the side of the platform that the stairs led to.

Soon, Sentinel, Sky Lynx, Terabolt, Topspin and any other Autobot that had followed Sentinel down would find themselves descending fast down underground.

After about ten minutes, the lift would appear in a vast underground cavern, filled with construction equipment... but one could tell that something is wrong. There were fires everywhere, confused bleeping below, and equipment are trashed.

"Damn it." Sentinel growled, and snapped into his commlink. "Prowl, the Project M facility has been compromised. Get the Autotroopers to cover the entrance, unless someone is with one of us that went down, apprehend them."

"What is this place?" Sky Lynx demanded.

"Project M." Sentinel snapped. "A contingency plan that Zeta Prime, Prowl and myself cooked up in case something like our current situation happens."

"And you never thought that this... this massive weapon facility in our basement is necessary for others to know about?" Sky Lynx replied, irate.

"The reason others don't know-" Sentinel snarled, pointing his finger in Sky Lynx's nose, "-is the only way Project M remains effective! Already that old general Obsidian had defected to the Decepticons. You think if this is in the standard dossiers Obsidian won't tell it to the Decepticons? I think not!"

"Well," Sky Lynx growled, baring his teeth, heckles rising, "Evidently you didn't do a good enough job keeping it secret, because unless the facility is supposed to be burning up, I think the Decepticons found it."

Sentinel growled. "Enough, flyboy. We will discuss this later. Sky Lynx, you get the Minicon workers out of here, they're liable to panic."

"Minicon workers? What-" Sky Lynx began, aghast.

"I said we'll talk about it LATER!" Sentinel all but screamed at Sky Lynx. "Explanations can come later!"

Sky Lynx shot Sentinel a glare that clearly stated that it wasn't over, and leapt off the lift towards the cavern. True enough, there were lots and lots of Minicons, numbering easily a hundred... those visible to Sky Lynx anyway. Sky Lynx's mouth hung open, it was completely out of the blue. The Minicons were the worker force of the planet, but to see so many gathered here...

They were bleeping and blooping in their own language, a language that Sky Lynx did not really understand. On one of the walls of the cavern was a massive hole, from whence Sky Lynx suspected the attackers had came from.

Despite his current annoyance... hatred... at his commanding officer... and his revulsion at seeing the Minicon task force... Sky Lynx knew that Sentinel, abhorrent as he is, was on the side of the angels. "Sentinel-"

"I see it." Sentinel snapped. "You. Autotrooper. Get a drone into that tunnel. See where it ends up."

Sky Lynx made a loud screech. "Attention, Minicons! No doubt whatever attack had befallen you had left you confused and terrified. Fear no more, for the great and glorious Sky Lynx is here to ferry you off to safety! Now, if you understand me, please form an orderly line and enter my spacious interior. No pushing, now!"

Sentinel leapt down from the lift, gestured at the others with him. "Spread out, in case the Decepticons are still here. And- damn it. Cog- COG! Where are you?" Sentinel's voice was layered a little with concern, but whether it was for the well-being of the Autobot, or for the Project, Sentinel had no idea.

Underground, War Academy

Terabolt would look around the facility, as though taking in all the sights (probably to report it to the Temple Knight Elders later) but she said nothing. Upon leaping down from the platform, she would continue to remain in her metal cat-beast form, starting to sniff around the area, looking for clues about what had happened.

Police Station

"If at all," Raiku answered, but followed Red Alert obligingly. The sooner they got this over with, the better, and the less likely of something happening to them.

"I am here Sentinel..."

The voice boomed from the darkness of the facility. It echoed around, making the source hard to detect. But it didn't seem to come from the Minicon Project Leader.

From farther back in the cave, a deep thudding, as if something massive hit the floor, it was quickly followed by another, closer. Within moments, a dark shape formed in the mist and fog of the once-battlefield. The giant strode up, stopping nearly 100 meters from the Autobots......

"Ummmmmm......"

Ginrai didn't quite know how to respond. He staired blankly for a moment, looking around for the source of the voice.

"I'm here making sure Smokescreen's ok....?" His voice didn't waiver, it was just unused to being in a situation like this one. "Can I go find him or do I have to provide references?"

Red Alert nodded. "You're careful," he said to Raiku. "I like that. But if we're going to make any headway, we need to take some risks."

The police officer led his charge out one of the precinct's back doors, then transformed into vehicle mode and drove off.

"We'll take back streets," he said, "to avoid the traffic cameras."

"He's OK," Smokescreen assured Unit One. "Ginrai's just another patient of mine." He smiled. "Albeit one who's a little bit more...tenacious than most."

Unit One buzzed for a few seconds, then chirped, "Unit designation: Ginrai is not found in the Cybertron Central Archives. Unable to confirm status."

"He's OK," Smokescreen assured the security drone again. "He's with me. You can clear him."

"Impossible," Unit One replied. "Unable to--"

"Confirm status. Yes, I know." Smokescreen sighed. "I'm operating here with full sanction, yes?"

"Affirmative."

"Then you acknowledge my authority as a representative of the Autobot government, vis-a-vis this station?"

"Affirmative."

"Well then," Smokescreen told him, "since I am the only duly authorized agent of the government who is currently aboard, by definition that makes me the station's acting commander."

"Affirmative."

"Then, as the commander of this outpost, I hereby order you to grant Ginrai clearance to this facility under my supervision."

"Affirmative." If Smokescreen didn't know better, he'd have thought the drone sounded annoyed at being outmanoeuvred. "Unit designation: Ginrai is cleared for Level Three access to this facility -- unsecured areas only, unless under escort."

"Thank you," Smokescreen said pleasantly before he called out, "It's alright, Ginrai. It looks like I have some sway here. You should be safe, as long as you stay with me."

Project M Facility

The hundred-or-so Minicons flinched and scattered as the giant Autobot stood up, but they clearly were not afraid by the appearance of the giant. The Autobots, however, all took a collective step backwards. Sky Lynx, for once, found himself at a loss of words, mouth hanging agape. "What, by the crystal spires- what have you done here, Sentinel?"

Sentinel's mouth hung open as well. He knew about the specifics of Project M. He knew about what they are supposed to do... more importantly, he knew about the fact that it was supposedly a bust until they got a real inventor (why Prowl was trying so hard to recruit Wheeljack, apparently) to take a look at Project M.

But this, here...

"Cog? Cog, is that you?" Sentinel called out.

Had Cog turned against them? Is Cog the enemy? What exactly happened there?

"The tunnel the Decepticons dug appear to come out some distance in the Border Regions." Prowl mused. "If I had to guess, the attackers are halfway on their way to Vos. Or Tarn. Doesn't really matter, they probably are Decepticon-allied now, both those states."

Prowl turned to a communications console. "Smokescreen, Smokescreen, this is Prowl. Please respond -- we think Ginrai snuck aboard your ship." Prowl tried to keep his voice as calm as possible. Smokescreen is liable to get pissed off if he started treating Ginrai as a monster (but Prowl hated unknown quantities) but at the same time he needed to inform Smokescreen of the techno-organic.

"I am no longer Cog. I had to activate the Maximus. You abandoned us, you pompus, megalomaniacal monster!"

The robot form stood more than a mile tall, and the voice boomed down with thunder and fury wrapped in deep saddness. It was the sound of a heartbroken voice, desperately looking for someone to lash out at, and having found a convienent target, was letting loose with the fury of an armada. The fact that the target for this assault was also a true target... only made things worse.

"They attacked. The Decepticons. In numbers beyond anything you told us they could muster! They were targeting the workers. They were slaughtering my people, who's only crime was to be hooked into this by you! And where were the security measures you promised us!!!? You promised we'd be safe if we built this technological marvel for you! And they died!!! Look around you Sentinel! See the corpses?!? That is on your hand!"

The giant Transformer loomed down, leering at the Autobots gathered there.

"And she tried to stop them. She tried to hold of the tide of troops, so the minicons could get to the ship. The rest were running to the Maximus. I was on the bridge. I was doing what you wanted, trying to find a way, any way, for you to activate it. But the security system that the old Bot gave us wouldn't let it work. I didn't see them at first. I was working too hard. I missed them opening fire. If I had of just paid attention more. If I had of been down with her... maybe I could have stopped it. I had to stop them. I had to protect my friends and family and her.... I needed to... and that's when....

"How did they breach security Sentinel? Where were you when we called? You said the Decepticons weren't more than a political movement and that you were being overly cautious."
************************************************

Omega Supreme

Ginrai looked up at Smokescreen:

"I get the feeling that wandering around on my own wouldn't go over too well.

"What are you doing up here? What is this place? It feels....."

Similar is what Ginrai thought. There was something similar to this place. It felt like.... not family but a word like family that implied a connection on a base level. It was something Ginrai couldn't put his finger on... but something that felt right.

"Anyway.... I'm here to make sure you're ok. I owed you an appology for shutting down like that. My systems have some pretty heavy repair protocols that I've reset...."

Project M Facility

Sentinel's first impulse was to lash out. To scream with this being who was/is Cog, who was now bonded to the Maximus Armour, who dared insinuate that this was all his fault.

Yet Sentinel did not do so. He did not do what his second nature told him to do.

Perhaps he felt guilt, perhaps he felt pity, but none of them were very likely.

Rather, Sentinel's face was struck into an expression of pained horror. His optics were glazed. He remembered an exact same situation. She's dead. She's dead. Creatures. Organics. An inferno. She's dead. All my fault. Dead. She's dead. Organics. Disobeying the rules. Dead. She's dead. Disobeyed the rules. Organics. Creatures. All my fault.

Sentinel remembered how he blamed everyone from Kup to Orion to Zeta Prime, but deep down he knew all the blame was his, for disobeying orders.

It was worse, because here, none of this was Cog's fault. He was following orders to the letter.

Sentinel wanted so much to harden himself as usual, to lash out, to punish this impudent soldier, but he found it hard to gather the motivation to shout. Oh, what a sight he must be to the soldiers around him! No doubt they think he's struck dumb by the size of the Maximus.

"I'm- Cog, I'm-" Sentinel's voice broke off with the same sadness Cog had. He still saw the burning flames of the inferno, he still saw the hairy, jointed moving limbs, he still heard her scream so vivid in his ears...

Sentinel's voice and expression then hardened. "I was mistaken. The Decepticons are a much greater threat than we believed. I was wrong. I... I am so very sorry." The words sounded alien to Sentinel as they tumbled out of his mouth, and they didn't sound very sincere. "We had no idea how they... their resources... they got an assassin into Iacon, to kill me. When the attack happened, it was simultaneous. An assassin snuck into the War Academy to assassinate me. All our men in Kaon are dead. Zeta Prime goes off trying to negotiate with these monsters. Our information network seemingly compromised. Old warhorses defecting to the enemy. Our communications network compromised..."

Sentinel's face was hard. "We are at war, Cog... where is..." Crap, Sentinel thought. What's her name again? "Where is she?" Sentinel said at last, voice low, knowing the answer. "Ratchet might yet save her..."

It felt so alien, trying to help, to comfort... but Sentinel saw too much of his old self in Cog...

The same old self that he had tried to cover under his swagger and anger and rage and lashing out at those around him, the same weakness he had expressed because he did not follow orders, the reason why he was such a hard commanding officer who would not tolerate insubordination...

Wheeljack noted down the adress that Prowl gave him and stood up. He picked up the spyder and took it with him. "We might be able to reverse engineer it. Who knows what we can learn from it," he said to Highbrow. "I'm sure the Autobot the military's R&D facilities will be accommodating enough for us."

Wheeljack looked at his lab partner and then at Prowl. He could say that he had no right ordering them since they weren't military staff or anything of the likes. He wasn't wearing an Autobot sigil even. However, the fact that they went through all this trouble to get him and Highbrow out of Kaon and the saccrifice that Magnus made, made him reconsider. He just wished his talents weren't used for warfare for a change, but it seems that he can't escape it and is destined to create things to destroy, rather than to help others.

Wheeljack then looked at Gong. "Show us the way then. We'll try to figure out how to counter their creationswhen we get there."

Smokescreen flipped on his communicator and responded to Prowl. "Yes, my friend," he chuckled, "so I've noticed. Don't worry. He'll be safe here with me, away from anyone who might want to use him for ill."

Of course, that wasn't what Prowl was worried about and Smokescreen knew it. He needed to have his fun, though.

"Don't worry about it," he told Ginrai. Then he smiled down at the other Transformer and said, "This isn't a place, my friend. It's a who. He gestured expansively to the room they were standing in, and by implication to the entire station. "I'd like you to meet Omega Supreme." His smiled turned into a slight frown. "Sadly, I don't think he's much for saying 'Hello'."

(OOC: I promise Hot Spot will help Sky Lynx in my next post. This one kind of got away from me. >.>)

Project M Facility

Expectation and preparation were eternally bound to the duties Hot Spot performed. He knew this—had always known this. It had aided him on numerous occasions, whether it had been while combating enormous blazes or rescuing victims snared by a fire's vicious grasp. But when the lift's doors slid open revealing the startling contents concealed inside the underground installation, neither of his accomplished senses of expectation and preparation could have braced him for the surprise that washed over him.

The destruction was extensive, that much could be confirmed. But beyond the twitching flames and broken construction equipment, Mini-Cons littered the facility's debris-strewn floor, emitting a combination of peculiar sounds that comprised their little-known language. So many Mini-Cons...

Some looked at Hot Spot, stabbing him with their brightly-coloured gazes. Others ran around, seeking an exit from the wicked fires, the tumult plaguing the underground installation.

One particular Mini-Con dashed by Hot Spot. His foot, however, collided into a hunk of jagged steel and he tripped, tumbling to the floor. A series of bleeps and bloops erupted from the depths of his vocaliser. A clenched fist slammed into the tiled metal surface.

Squatting next to the diminutive Transformer, Hot Spot carefully helped him to his feet. “Up you get, big fellow. You all right?”

The Mini-Con regarded Hot Spot for a moment, frozen in place. He finally nodded, producing no sounds.

The Protectobot smiled underneath his mouth-plate. “Excellent.” He glanced around, taking in the substantial amount of Mini-Cons in need of rescue. “Stick me with, okay? I can promise you that you won't get hurt. And, as an added bonus, I'll even get you out of here. Sound good?”

The diminutive Transformer nodded again, this time with vigour.

He gestured towards Sky Lynx. “Shall we then?”

"Gong, do take a squad of Autotroopers with you. We have to work under the assumption that the enemy may have compromised Iacon. Do not let the scientists out of your sights." Prowl told the Autobot guard.

"Uh, shure." Gong told Wheeljack, nodding, as he led the way out of the room. (OOC: Springer, Chip, feel free to move Gong around if you want to get there faster)

Prowl watched as Gong led Wheeljack and Highbrow exited the building. He supposed they would be more useful in the Project M facility, working with Cog on the Maximus Battlesuit. However, there were too many unknown qualities down there, and Prowl did not like it one bit.

Standing, hands pressed against the monitor as he listened silently to Sentinel's conversation with the others, Prowl's brow furrowed.

Sky Lynx may be a problem, Prowl mused. He would have to have a talk with him one of these days...

No, Prowl decided. The real problem is not Sky Lynx, or Sentinel, or even Prowl himself. It's the Senate for being so tight with allotting them any resources or anything...

Although Prowl had to admit, the Minicon worker force was overboard, even for him. But Zeta Prime and Sentinel thought it was a good idea, and Cog did not seem to mind, so...

Prowl's ruminations were once more cut off by Smokescreen replied with good news in regards to Ginrai. He supposed he should be pissed off that Ginrai was not able to divulge information, but all things considered it was something that he could live with.

Ginrai was with Smokescreen, someone Prowl trusted. Ginrai would not hurt Smokescreen, at least not on board the Omega Supreme facility. Ginrai was away from any other Decepticons, and so is Smokescreen... and if the Decepticons attack the Omega Supreme facility they would be foolish to do so.

"Please do try to find out what you can about Ginrai's creators." Prowl told Smokescreen. "Although, well, if you would excuse me, there has been yet another attack in Iacon."
