'spensive though. You might want to hunt round eBay or just let the fact there's one out there that you don't have eat you up before you ultimately die unfulfilled.

ultimately dying unfulfilled seems the way to go at that price!! I'll make do with the takara and hasbro MP Skywarp figures I have already.

it'll never be complete anyway as I refuse to get the bw2 Skywarp eagle thing.

Behold: Mount Kreon!

Post by Rack 'n Ruin »

Image

I finally finished putting the majority of my Kreons on the Lego display stand I built for them atop an Ikea Detolf, and I though I'd share a pic. It was the best way I could find to display so many Kreons in such a tight space.

I'm very happy with how it turned out, even if I couldn't quite fit every custom Kreon I've made on. I'm particularly gutted that Ambulon, Atomizer, Pharma, Tyrest, Star Saber, and Flame missed the cut. Others on the subs bench are Goldbug, Crosshairs, Sureshot, Pointblank, Artfire, and Gobots Road Ranger, Turbo, and Pathfinder. I need more space!!!

Let me know if the picture doesn't work right, or if you want an ID on any particular Kreon. :)

Thanks! Yep, There's a Wheeljack in there. He has Dirge and Sunstreaker to his sides, Hound in front, and Jetfire behind. He was one of the hardest Kreons to acquire. In the end, I chose to to stump up for one from a split SDCC Class of '84 pack a year or so back (as with Hound).

Unfortunately, as with several other lines I've collected, at some point I passed a tipping point between "I have a few and they're cool." to "I have nearly all of the <xxxx subset>! Gotta get 'em all!". The curse of the collector, perhaps? ;)

He does get a lot of looks and praise, which is a bit odd considering he was not my first choice for a Scoria deco and I only warmed up to his colours after a few days. Stock figure has the blue head attached, I had to change the head -and- face [default face on the red head was the screaming silver].

Next FT Dino on my list is Diaclone Sever, but prolly for next year.

[EDIT] I posted this in the wrong thread. Should have been in new acquisitions. If somebody could either delete this post or replace it with Doctor Who spoilers for Dalek, that'd be ace.

So my wife's been saying for a while now that she wanted to take up shooting, and I finally had a chance to pick up a good rifle for her to learn with. In return, she bought me this from Ikea:

Image

I think I can safely say I have the best wife ever.

I've been thinking for a while now that I'd like to grab some glass shelves for my collection, but the Detolfs that so many people use never seemed quite right to me. There's just so much wasted vertical real estate in them. This guy on the other hand has another shelf in exchange for a couple less inches in between each of them, which works out perfectly for the size range that most Transformers fall into. It's not entirely full of Transformers, but it works great for the ones that I put in. My other figures require a bit more creative layering, but it works. It also comes with a lock, which is great because the #1 reason for wanting to keep stuff behind glass is to keep little fingers off of it (and more importantly to keep anything small and chokeable from going down little throats).

Image Image Image Image Image

I actually like this a lot more than I'd expected (and I expected to like it a lot!), and I'm already plotting to get another one so that I can stuff it full of Beast Wars toys. And wifey is pondering a Detolf for her Barbies and stuff.

Ikea is dangerous.

Good luck blending into that crowd, Ezio!

Pretty big fan of the extremely mixed-media Batman shelf that also has no Batman, tbh.

Sadly it looks like your Transmetal Megatron is suffering from some form of fungal infection.

Are those Turtles the recent 6" Classics ones?

He'd better hope he blends, the toy has such useless articulation that he's not going to be winning any fights with anyone else on that shelf. Also he's very confused with how his old friend Leonardo is dressing these days.
tahukanuva wrote:Pretty big fan of the extremely mixed-media Batman shelf that also has no Batman, tbh.
There is a Batman, though! You just can't see him because...well, he's Batman! Er, and also because I seem to have taken that shot from a funny angle and hidden him, Martian Manhunter and Firefly from view. You can totally see one of his thighs poking out from behind Firestorm, though!

Sidenote: I love that Mattel went and made toys of practically everyone in the DCU even down to Killer Moth and 60s Batman stuff, but wow they did not age well at all. The Marvel and Star Wars stuff I've got on the next shelf just makes them look primitive.
Brendocon 2.0 wrote:Sadly it looks like your Transmetal Megatron is suffering from some form of fungal infection.
At least he hasn't snapped in half at the waist!

But honestly, as iconic as Transmetal Megatron is, if you made me choose I'd probably say that Predacon looks a little better. I'm not the biggest fan of chrome bling all over the toy. Will probably track down the Takara version of the original one day, though, since it's the best toy out there of one of my favourite characters.

Do they still count as "recent"? I've had them for a few years now. They're the Playmates Classics stuff though, yes. Pretty solid toys, though for obvious reasons they're ridiculously back-heavy if you try and pose them without the stands they came with.

You don't deserve to own any Transmetals.

Yeah, as much as I buy/sell, I'm fairly certain my Metals Convoy/Megatron VS pack is one thing I'll never let myself get shot of.

Well I'm fairly sure they're still on shelves over here, so that's my frame of reference. Nice to see them in their natural state though. Only Turtles I've got are the NECA ones from however-many-years-ago, but the notion of a set of accurateish 'toon ones is something that's been niggling at me for a while.

Too bad, I've got several of them. And lots of TM2s. I don't dislike them, but I really do think that most of the molds that got reused in Armada and Universe without the chrome looked as good or better that way (and retroactively showed off a lot of sharp detail that isn't as noticeable under a layer of thick chrome).

And talking about Predacon in particular, his unique deco has long made him one of my favourite Transformer toys.

They're two of the best Beast-era molds, so who could blame you for that? Plus those are really the definitive versions of the characters (for me anyway), Primal because for once he doesn't look much like Optimus Prime at all, and Megatron because he did all of his best villainy in that body.

They're definitely worth getting if you can still grab them locally for retail price. Buying them online is a bit dicier, because eBay and such are apparently thick with bootlegs of them now. They're not without issues, mostly to do with the fact that they're...well, turtles, with big shells and bulky limbs that naturally restrict their range of movement a bit. But they're good fun. Just make sure you pick through them to find the ones with the best available paint apps. The pupils of the eyes, in particular, tend to be all over the place.

If you're looking for something super-cartoony and don't mind spending a bit more, there is a set of Figuarts Turtles that's supposed to be coming soon. Those ones a bit too cartoony and bright for me, but I know a lot of folks are excited for them.
