Great Gimmicks
Now, since we've got a thread about annoying gimmicks, I thought it would be nice to have also a thread with great gimmicks.
For instance: RID OP's rocket-launchers are fantastic, so are Sideswipe's(ROTF) Arm blades, and Armada Tidal Wave's combining gimmick/transformation is among my favorites.

A figure's ability to transform is more than enough for me, personally
Hmm, need to think here.....
Well, I suppose - in theory that is - a toy being able to combine into a larger toy is a decent concept/gimmick. Execution is a different matter, of course, but from the perspective of a child (or even a collector) it's pretty nifty because it extends the playability of group of toys. I thought it was neat when I was kid, anyway.
Oh, those Activators (I think that's what they are called) look like a lot of fun too - the ones that neatly transform by the press of a button. Don't know if they actually do, though. I'm just going by what I've seen.

That was a very nice extra.Clay wrote:Masterpiece Grimlock's color changing eyes.

Other very nice extras:
- Masterpiece Megatron's LED'ed cannon.
- Masterpiece Convoy's LED'ed Matrix
- Masterpiece Convoy's "talking" faceplate
- Masterpiece Convoy's opening leg vents
- Binaltech's suspension and steering
- G1 Soundwave's tape deck, eject button activated chest door. I'd also mention Blaster's if it wasn't such a bear to open.
- G1 Omega Supreme's, Sky Lynx, and Trypticon's ability to walk.
- Masterpiece Seekers' face changing ability
- Classic Jetfire's mask/helmet
Thanks, Zeeks! Great job!
Basically anything that doesn't impede the transformation, but gives a good extra. Big f***ing guns are good enough a gimmick for me.
Also, combining (though I don't care much for Energon's two-bot tag teams) is a personal favourite.
Animated Shockwave and Punch/Counterpunch are interesting as well.

Yes, but this time, the alternative is not neccesary worse then the original. :P-Blackout- wrote:So, I see you've made a Shattered Glass version of my thread.
Anything that isn't on a hair-trigger and/or doesn't impede the transformation.
I think that articulated hands should be considered a good gimmick too...
@Blackout: Yeah, so what????

G1 Jetfire's endless armour. I loved the hassle of putting all that stuff off and on. He looked so cool and it always bothered me he got so pasted by Galvatron in Target: 2006. It was one of those awful signposts in life that it doesn't matter how hard or cool your robot is if there's a new one on the shelves that's a year younger.
Bit like the way Fortress Maximus got reduced to the height of an average trooper in Time Wars. But I never had him so I didn't care as much, just sort of acknowledged it miffedly at the time.
