Dreamwave Transformers G1 Vol.1 + Vol.2
*also available from IDW. Drawn by Pat Lee
For the first Vol.1 the individual Issue #1 is better then the TPB as there is a build up, that is seperated by an advertisement, that is really nice suspense builder. The tpb lacks the advertisement, so the effect is lost.

Dreamwave certainly qualifies, being cancelled due to bankruptcy, but it's pretty bollocks.Catalyst Dragon wrote:If I wanted to start with a series that is G1 style, what would you guys suggest?
Preferably one that is finished(i.e. all issuse have been printed.)
I'd suggest picking up Infiltration and Stormbringer and seeing if you like them.

Dinobot Hunt is a very early UK story, back before standard art models were established.
Story-wise it's pretty decent...

(IDW have their own TPB, which basically just adds a US story to the contents IIRC. I need to go back and fill in some site pages for IDW series when I have time.)

And here's an additional opinion....
As for the other IDW reprints of the Dreamwave volumes - Personally, I'd wait for the 3rd Volume to be released (edit: it's the Sunstorm saga, due sometime early next year). Surprisingly alright reading, has some nice character focus, plus Superstar Pat Lee at this point is no longer penciling (unless you include the bits he did in #0. I'm not even sure that will be included with upcoming trade or not). Plenty folks seemed to like the War Within series (Volumes 1 and 2), though I was kind of impartial to them. Pity about Volume 3, it seemed to be moving in a fairly decent direction before the aforementioned bankruptcy. Don't expect it to be reissued any time soon though, but with a little sleuthing the individual 3 issues can be found easily enough.
As far as IDW trades - I'll have to echo what has already been recommended. Start with Stormbringer and Infiltration to get a feel for things, then go on from there. It comes with my recommendations, but there have been plenty of duly notable gripes from some. Gauge it for yourself, really
As far as the Devil's Due stuff goes, which I finally got around to reading, if you keep in mind that it's meant (at least how I read them) to be empty but campy Joe-centric fun, they're harmless enough. Though, having also finally gotten around to reading the infamous "Combat Ratchet" story from the 2nd volume myself, I nearly had a conniption fit - but I guess it was meant to show the versatility of the character, so whatever. Over the top and kind of fun, but don't expect anything profound (edit: I personally wasn't a fan of them, but horses for courses and all that jazz). If I had to chose one of the more relatively recent Joe/TF crossovers, I'd probably have to go with the Dreamwave 1st volume run. There were a few shortcomings (particularly the haphazard conclusion), but it was enjoyable enough, it kind of has a "dark" and gritty premise, and if you like eye-candy, Jae Lee's pencils are quite sharp - so I thought. However, availability of the trade seems scarce from what I can tell.Starfield wrote:How is the Devil's Due G.I. Joe crossover?

too much suggestive language in the comics
Is there and do you feel uncomfortable about it?
A little nonsense now and then is cherished by the wisest of decepticons.

Re:
Transformers were never organic, but I don't think that you need to be organic/part organic or use to be organic to have a sex/gender. After there are sexless organic organism on this planet. I mean Transformers are biological beings. You don't need to be carbon base/organic to be biological or to have a gender. I'm pretty sure it can be define by the spark.
Re: General IDW *NON-SPOILER* discussion
Gender's pretty much whatever they want it to be, and as discussed elsewhere more recently I think alt-mode and transformation classes (flyer, racer, etc. and whether or not a multi-changer) are more meaningful to Cybertronians than what characteristics of other races they feel like mimicking. Changing a voice or aspect of appearance (or even behaviour) doesn't really get to the core of a individual in a race that changes form, in the same way that having an affinity for different environments does.
Sexes is arguable -- although Cybertronians have a fair number of analogues with organic life, and something that could be termed biology, in continuities with Primus, matrices, hot spots, budding etc. and where a majority of characters can't reproduce unaided there isn't a compelling reason for specialisation into human-analogue sexes, other than audience/authorial wish-fulfillment.
