Or... they could be created because there are some people out there that are sick of SW?
its not going away, even if everyone hates it.
And people sick of these things that will complain about them when they want aren't going to go away either. Even if every SW fan hates it.

:eyebrow: or, better yet... :wtf:

In some cases, the anti-fanboys are acting out of a knee-jerk reaction to some fanboys who insist that Star Wars is the best thing ever, and if you don't like it, you're uncultured/stupid/a ****/etc.

I know that there are none of these people here at TFA (or if they are, they're keeping quiet, which works equally well), but some people really have had enough of the fanwanking that goes on among certain parts of the Star Wars fanbase.

Same thing happens any time there are rabid fans of a franchise. Just take a look in the G1 forum here at the Archive. I do understand your anger though - I get pissed off when random bashing of the cartoon goes on in the G1 forum here. Most recent example is the 'Worst G1 comic story' thread.

Marketing in general isn't going away. I was implying advertisment is immortal, not Star Wars. People who hate Star Wars and want to see it go away won't have to wait that long to get their wish. After this movie's cycle fades out, Star Wars will diminish. No more movies, no more mass marketing, nothing to annoy people who don't care about them. 1985-1991 was pretty star wars free wasn't it? Well, those times are coming back, whether I like it or not.

Something they're inclined to say something along the lines of, "F*ck you, if you don't like it you can just go piss off!" Something they're utterly convinced is the best thing in the world and they'll not hear a negative comment about it, no matter how well constructed it is.

I'm that way with hockey I suppose...

Well you see Hound, it's really special code for Trailbreaker > Hound. ;)

On-Topic: Yeah, the read was quite good. I liked how he basically summed Episode I as being incredibly awful but still got some good reviews due to reputation alone.

I'm really surprised it didn't talk about how they really ruined the mystique behind "The Force." When introduced in Episode 4, it was like this untapped, surreal, omnipotent power that few people knew how to access. It was that mystical, magical thing that made people curious how it worked.

Later, in Episode I (man, that sounds wierd to type), we learn that you have to have some special organism inside of you to have access to the Force. If that's the case, then why not inject a bunch of people with this organism so that everyone can have Force powers? Man, what a way to kill the mystique. Some things are better left to the imagination and I think this is one of those things.

i honestly dont see why theres such a big uproar from Prowl? in terms of this article.

With something as large scale as Star Wars you are going to have two different types of people expressing their extreme views. On one hand you would have the fanboys who see that George Lucas can do no wrong (Star Wars fanboys, not original trilogy) and you have... as someone said... the "anti-fanboys" those who dont like alot of what Star Wars stands for.

You have to accept that things like this will crop up, its inevitable. I love Star Wars, Episodes IV-VI are gold, Episode I was largely poor but did have its moments, and Episode 2 was only slightly better than Episode I. I enjoyed the article loads, i understood that not everyone likes Star Wars and read it for what it is, one mans rant about not liking Star Wars.

You cant expect threads, posts and articles posted on so many sites masturbating over Star Wars without having some that view it in a negative light.

Here's a few reasons:
1 I am a fanboy
2 I wasn't going to let this thread turn into a gang bang of anti star wars hate
3 I have an opinion and the will to express it
4 I have too much time on my hands right now
5 There is no NHL playoffs to b!tch about, and I need something to make me angry
6 I enjoy debate that doesn't degrade into flame wars
7 Because I damm well feel like it! :D

The problem with Star Wars, really, is divorcing the films [IMO, two very different sets of films on top of this, but I'm going to make a vague stab at coherency, so QUIET YOU] from the Star Wars industry... it's very difficult for many people to think Star Wars without thinking of Lucas and the merchandise overkill. The SW films [and for all I know/care, the various spin-offs like books and comics] are fairly enjoyable [well, personally I enjoy rewatching the original three from time to time, can't see myself likely to ever watch Ep 1 again, and have a vauge interest in seeing 2-3], But Lucas has basically made it symbolic of taking films to a whole new level of commercialism...

What the **** am I on about? Basically, I like lots of things, and i'm not against making fun of them or pointing out flaws.

I have to agree with Prowl? in that if it wasn't Star Wars being marketed 24/7 for a few months, it'd be something else.

None of which actually makes Star Wars or LotR good—they have to do that on their own respective merits. It's generally easier for an experience of a franchise to be detracted from by overexposure, though. Most people won't disconnect a single film (or small group of films) from a franchise, because it's contrary to the way memory and neural links work.

It's also something advertisers and marketeers knowingly exploit. Just another reason to cull the profession, really...

Just as it doesn't make them bad for the same reason. Media saturation could make people dislike something, but has no bearing on whether or not it's good material. Due to that, I agree that people who hate something solely because it's ubiquitous for a while are ignorant morons.

Sure, you can have a technically accomplished film with great narrative, that's let down by the franchise as a whole—and the article is attacking (or poking fun at) the franchise, not saying the films are all crap.

I haven't even read the article. I was just responding to the discussion in the thread itself with people were bringing up the merchandizing and advertizing as reasons to hate Star Wars as a whole.
