Square brackets, natch.
I tried that, after it was mentioned it in another thread, but all I get is a white square. Could it be browser settings? I use the current firefox, btw. Sorry, still kind of an internet newbie...

You only need to put the code for the video between the brackets, not the whole URL.

So, for MLvNGZjMt8I (the one Sixswitch posted) it's {youtube}MLvNGZjMt8I{/youtube} -- except with [ ] brackets, naturally.

We have a few other custom vB code tags...

This is either really cool, or really sad, and I'm not sure which side I'm on yet.

Certainly not me - I know Gyro Robo isn't a name, it's a unit type. Early commercials where multiples of the same figure appear show this, and it's later kept much the same in the Revenge of Cronos, where multiple characters intentionally have exactly the same body - notably the tribe of Submarine Robo, and numerous appearances of Supercar Robo. The individual units do have individual personalities and names which the anime rarely goes into (though examples are Trim Sponsor, a Tank Transer; and Vilion, a Drill Heli).

But was the toy itself called Gyro Robot on the packaging?

[Yep. I'm a sucker for punishment].

Yep (IIRC it's "Gyro Robo Type"; possibly in Japanese only, I'm not sure i have the box onhand). But it's not a name. Gundam's original toy box has Gundam on it, but it's still a Gundam-type mobile suit, not a name. Gobots wasn't an import of Machine Robo, it was a completely new mythos (for want of a better word) that used the same action figures - which is what makes it astonishing that the French repackaged RoC as a sequel to Challenge when the two are totally irreconcilable. Machine Robo is to Gobots as Diaclone is to Transformers, not as - say - Micron Legend is to Armada, or even as Golion or Dairugger are to Voltron.

The important thing to remember is that both the American and Japanese versions were largely terrible, and only Tom Tully got it right. I actually love the Robot Chicken sketches - if nothing else it's nice to see some lovely little toys front and centre.

Works fine for me; it's possibly a UK-only video due to being for adultswim.co.uk.

Try living in a proper country rather than a colony we shipped all the idiots off to.
