Spidey 4 - Raimi and Maguire out

Sony looking to reboot the franchise

Given the how bad Spiderman 3 was, this isn't a bad idea. Wondering who the replacements are?

Who do you think will make a good Spiderman?

That's a shame, that we need a reboot after what? How many years? Doesn't seem long enough.

I'm not a Spiderman fan as it happens, in fact I was get my nerd jollies about seeing Bruce Campbell in a 'major role' in a Hollywood blockbuster for a change. I sat through 'Mchale's Navy' only to be let down by this?

Here's hoping it's not Jake 'I HAVE A REALLY GIANT HEAD' Gyllenhall, which it probably will be.

When is my X-Statix live action film gonna be made, directed by Alfonso Cuaron and starring Jeremy Renner? WHEN!?

A boy can dream...

I'm grateful for a reboot but it is a little too soon. Spider-man 3 was a complete travesty, especially after a fairly strong second installment.

My money's on Gyllenhall but saying that he'll probably be a bit too old by then, especially seeing as their trying to take it back to the high school years

From my most general understanding, the third one was awful because of Sony's meddling, insisting on more villains and whatnot. Sony meddling to the point of the director walking away and booting out the lead actor doesn't really have a glow of hopefulness about it.

It wont be Gyllenhaal, he looks far too old now, even if he isnt necessarily that old...

Either theyll hire an unknown, or theyll go for a teen kid like the one from Adventure/Zombieland, Jesse Eisenberg... Not necessarily him, but someone like him.

What he said. I'll also throw in that rebooting the franchise in under a decade is almost as grand a show of retarded hubris as what IDW did with their shitty Transformers comics.

I'm hoping Tobey will sink into obscurity so I don't ever have to worry about seeing his face in otherwise fun-sounding films ever again.

Let's face it, everything based on anything is pretty much shit nowadays, anyway (with the odd exception here and there, the Sherlock Holmes film looks pretty entertaining. Haven't seen yet though). I'm afraid to get my hopes up ever about anything, lest I wind up being one of those pissed-off sounding whiners we all love so much.

Or, failing that, Nathan Fillion.

Bloody hell, expectation totally subverted. You're not as predictable as I thought. Oh, hang on...

Phew. You had me going there for a second.

I think the bloke from High School Musical should play Parker on the grounds it'll really piss off exactly the right people.

Incidentally, you can't tell me that the notion of a Spidey movie with Nathan Fillion playing both Peter Parker and MJ isn't 4,815,162,342 varieties of awesome.

Oh, Sony's looking to reboot the franchise, are they? Isn't that wonderful. Spider-Man came out in 2002. Perhaps if these companies didn't mismanage their franchises so badly, they wouldn't have to reboot the damn things over and over. That's why I'm glad they're doing such an incredible job with the Batman movies, because they can follow this line of films out indefinitely. I really hope audiences punish Sony for such a quick reboot with their wallets.

I they going for a straight-up reboot, or just new Spidey adventures that aren't much like the other 3? because I wouldn't mind that too much.

If it's Ultimates (which is most likely) then it's going to be a complete reboot as Peter Parker is much younger in that than he is in the current.

Given how bad Spiderman 3 was it is a good thing.
But the series was good till it hit 3.
Tobey Maguire was a good Spiderman. And Raimi was a good director.
Hopefully the new writer and actor is less soppy.
The big flaw in the films and some cartoons is the obsession with unnesssessery misery and sentimental rubbish.
