I would just like it to have a few years with the general population and then in a couple of years I'm more than happy to take it, especially as I'll start to get older and at higher risk.

This doesn't mean I don't think people who may be at higher risk should avoid it or any in lower risks who want it shouldn't have it. I'd never think people who do that are wrong and it is a personal choice for everyone. I'm just lucky that my circumstances mean I've got time on my side to wait

And if I happen to be that 1 in a thousand then so be it
So, you're willing to do the rational thing, but only after waiting so long collecting data that it may be too late?

We still don't know the long term effects of covid19, but those are likely far worse.
It isn't even like the vaccine stops you spreading it. It simply lessens the symptoms people have and as I'm said I'm happy to accept them to myself
Yes, vaccines cut down on transmission. That's incredibly important, as right now the danger is the emergence of variants that may or may not be deadlier, more contagious, and resistant to the vaccines we've already got.

The problem with attitudes of hesitancy or resistance is that it they're not really individual choices that affect only the person making them. The problem is that, en masse, those choices collectively form a chunk of the population large enough to undermine the whole vaccination effort.

You may say, "oh no, I'm not an anti-vax conspiracy theorist. My reasons are completely different and justified!" but that's irrelevant to a virus looking to spread and mutate. If you don't get vaccinated, you're simply a better and more hospitable vector than you would be if you do get vaccinated.

Okay, that's funny.

Got shot #2 today. I don't feel like I'm dying or anything, but holy crap is my arm sore...

Apparently I go back for a booster shot sometime in September. I'm guessing I'll have to schedule that one as it gets closer.

Apparently, the Indian variant has been found in three cases in Leicester City. No surprise there, given more than a few locals flew out for the recent religious festivities. The Indian government has been hoist by its own petard, but the populace is getting the fallout.

 Clay (avoiding your sore arm!)

w00t.

As I probably said it was my second shot of Pfizer that lulled me into a false sense of security for 2 days and on the 3rd day it decided to knock me on my arse for a day.

Yeah, I spoke too soon. A good twelve hours after my shot, I had an episode of fever/chills/shivering for six hours or so. Seems to be over now... hopefully...

I was able to get my 2nd Moderna shot locally. On the 20th, I hadn't received official notice of my 2nd CT appointment. I checked the local place's website again, and saw some for today, the first day I'm eligible to get mine, having gotten my first on April 6th. I signed up.

On the 21st, a bureaucrat sent an e-mail announcing the local appointment for people who'd gotten their first shots locally, or were just getting their first shot. She insisted that these slots were not for those of us who'd gotten our first shots in CT, and that we'd have to go there again.

This gave me pause, as I wouldn't want to take a slot dedicated for someone else's 2nd shot and screw up their timing. I spoke to a coworker who'd gotten his first shot at the local place, and he said there were so many no shows the people giving the shots were wondering they could/should close up early. I decided to sleep on whether or not to cancel my local appointment.

On the 22nd, our captain sent an e-mail that the local places would be receiving fewer doses from now on due to lack of demand. I decided to keep my local appointment.

On the 27th, I finally received confirmation of my 2nd CT appointment, May 5th at 11 am. I didn't cancel it, because I wanted to make sure everything went OK today first. I'll cancel it first thing Monday morning.

Pattern seems to be people react a bit to the 2nd Pfizer and the 1st AZ.

Basically. Papers in the last week or so (as well as national press conferences) pointing out the significant benefits of reduction in transmission, to the extent that for two normal people with both jabs plus a bit of time for the second to work risk is almost completely eliminated, and that seems to be the formal advice in the US as well.

I've got my jabs booked in, so that's exciting. Also had my first MMR jab this week, as it turns out the Doctor's have no record of my having it (I can't remember having it either. Remember the polio thing, as you got that on a sugar cube, and having the Tetanus acupuncture at Secondary School). Thanks to frothing anti-vaxxers, there's been a lack of take up of this in Bradford, so we have hilarious cases of measles so I was more than happy to get jabbed up for this.

I still haven't fully recovered from my 2nd Moderna shot 3 days ago. The actual side effects of the shot (chills, fever, nausea) are gone. But, having those all weekend screwed up my sleeping and eating schedules, so I'm still not feeling great. The same thing happens when I have a cold that lasts a few days. I don't eat as much as normal, and then it becomes more difficult for me to eat. My mouth always feels gross, even after I just brushed my teeth, which makes chewing unappealing. My throat narrows just enough to make swallowing solids uncomfortable. So, lots of bananas, yogurt, and Powerade for me today. I was able to finish a PB&J sandwich this morning, but not a turkey sandwich this afternoon. I've been improving all day today, so hopefully, I'll be better by tomorrow.

I thought I'd at least gotten off easy with the shoulder pain, which was far less noticeable than the first shot. At least, until I used my shoulder to nudge open my laundry room door yesterday. It's still a little tender if I apply pressure to it.

Probably not recommended but I did enough of a workout a few hours after the first jab figuring that if I felt under the weather or a bit achey I'd have something else to pin it on as well.

If you get colds normally, see if they've got a combination vac that includes https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/hib/ as our generation didn't get it as kids. That and large doses of vitamin D supplement have done me very well for years.

Got my first darting today. Been about 3 hours and no adverse effects yet. Thinking I'm calling off from work tomorrow as a precaution. Don't need to wake up in the morning feeling like hell and having to fumble around for the phone to put in off. Can't wait for enough people to be suitably vaxxed up so I can stop wearing the stupid masks

@Denyer - good shout. Thanks! Generally been alright with colds and stuff. Bit snuffly through stupid allergies more than anything else.

@Tantrum - hope your health continues to pick up. Sounds like you've had it rough :O

@Unicron - I like wearing a mask. I look like a ninja!

I finally felt well enough to go into work on Wed, after staying home Mon and Tues. Even then, I wasn't 100%, so I spent the day getting on-line training modules out of the way, so I wouldn't have to think too hard. Today (Thurs) is the first day I've felt fully healthy. No regrets about getting the shots, though. I figure if the vaccine is smacking me around this hard, the actual disease would whoop my ass.

Touch wood after the 2nd Pfizer yesterday morning nothing particularly distinguishable from any other factor.

Yeah, more tired than usual the evening after, but couldn't separate from busy week. Same with having gotten an exercise bike I'm not used to, haven't been on a bike since I was a kid, but figured since I haven't been walking much it fits quite well with sticking on videos whilst letting the rabbits out.

Was finally able to get my first shot of Pfizer yesterday. My arm feels like its going to fall off. :(

I was super impressed with how organized the site I went to appeared to be, though. The wait was less than fifteen minutes and they appear to be injecting around 1,000 people per hour. I was expecting it to be a shit show.

Also, the details of how the mRNA vaccines work sound like something out of Star Trek. It feels like it could lead to huge advances in the treatment of other diseases down the road.

It's already going that way. The thing is, this exchange sums it up:

https://twitter.com/poppy_haze/status/1 ... 2198760451

"THIS IS HUGE: New HIV vaccine with a 97% antibody response rate in phase I human trials. IIRC, this is the most effective HIV vaccine to date. This is based on the Moderna's COVID vaccine. Silver lining of COVID-this tech could be used for so many things."

"mRNA vaccine tech sorta languished for a period starting 10 years ago because they were focusing on profitable diseases to treat, the kind where you'll need lots of injections all the time. Vaccines are considered a loss-leader, a money loser, why bother even trying."

^Wow.

Got my first jab on Saturday (had to delay it a bit thanks to my MMR shot a few weeks previous) . Slumming it with the AZ jab, but happy to have had it. Site was efficiently organised and lots of cheery volunteers squirting sanitiser at you at every turn like it's a perfume department in a department store (what they then?). Went for a big walk afterwards and did the freezer shop. Felt largely fine, but felt a bit achy around 5pm and didn't manage to sleep on Saturday night. Felt fine on Sunday (if incredibly tired) and looking forward to getting my second jab, so I can feel a bit more comfortable about going places.

Don't trust some of the folk around here to look after their own health, let alone mine. Too much of a groundswell of anti-vax sentiment (not helped by that idiotic Reform UK wonk stood to be elected as Mayor for the county) and people just now thinking that because the shops are open and you can sit indoors they don't have to give a shit anymore. Think the excitement of being allowed out again is rather drowning out the message of being careful, there's still variants about which are spreading very quickly in some places. Sigh.
