Serious thread about copyrights
Call me bitter, but after 15 years of forcing inflated prices down my throat for music/movies/video games, I take a certain bit of satisfaction in not paying for average offerings of these mediums, and still be able to use them. Not to say I am a complete pirate without any concern for the hardwork that goes into developing the art. I waited in line 13 hours on May 18th to see Episode 3, I have every EA NHL and GTA game made within the past five years, I am quite proud of my Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Godfather DVD sets, and enjoy listening to Velvet Revolver on my CD deck.
Give me great stuff, or I will rip you off and get your average crap for free.
Plain and simple as far as I am concerned.

Because copyright is civil law, and because the threshold for suing anyone in the US is so low, it's probably open to challenge if someone felt they could prove you were getting use of two copies—it could be argued the purpose of backups is for when a master becomes damaged, not to pre-emptively use the copy—however, you're entitled to a backup under terms of fair use, and ultimately nobody is likely to give a ****.
It goes without saying that IANAL.

Actually, yes. This is why I'm asking this. He wanted to know the legality of this as he would be responsibile for of it being in the store.
It's not like I make 20 zillion copies, just one. I keep my original at home, and use the copy as a demo int he store.

I would recommend just making one for your home and not for the
office that could possiably get you fired.
