Ok, so 2010 has been one of the crappiest of all my 30 years. So to counterbalance this, I'm asking you this question.

What's perked you up recently?

Could be a new purchase, new love, old love, great holiday, finding out you don't have chlamydia, whatever.

Last Thursday a couple of American friends from uni who I haven't seen or spoken to in five years turned up on my doorstep, having gone to the effort of tracking me down as they didn't have any contact info that wasn't out of date. Really awesome feeling to have mates put that sort of effort into seeing how you're doing.

I actually found this out in february! I was very happy.

I've found a ukulele group to play with at uni,
I got a bunch of old TF's cheap at a charity shop,
Had a great holiday to the lakes with my mates
and I discovered Flight Of The Conchords.

Just little things but all nice.

Watched an animated film called 'Monster House' that totally bypassed me on its original release, saw it with no insight what so ever and was rewarded by an 80's 'Fright Night' esque animation classic.

Had me smiling all night, it's the little things.

Bought a pretty nice bass guitar for cheap to replace my not-so-nice cheap one that hurt both shoulder and fingers. And the new one isn't black. I'm so tired of black guitars.

I'm on the final hurdle of reading every James Bond book ever, only four more Young Bond and re-reading Devil May Care to go. I'll probably drop dead just before the last page.

On a similar note, rewatched Die Another Day this week and really enjoyed, much more than I used to. The flaws are still there (Berry, THAT surf CGI moment, The way the uneven tone between gritty spy thriller and silly Roger Moore style results in James Bond electrocuting the leader of North Korea, cheating exterior shots during both virtual reality sequences even though there's no reason for the machine to create the outside of the building when there's no real people there...).

But, it's fun, breezy, has as many great moments as bad (gotta love tramp Bond walking into Hong Kong's most expensive hotel like he owns it) and Toby Stephens having the time of his life camping it up to 11. All in all, a more entertaining film that Quantum of Solace, even if that's a more worthy movie.

Also, a great night at work yesterday as we had a big important visit in the mourning so senior management could see how we do things. Thus to insure they never find out how we do things we had about 50 managers off days come in. 6 people down every aisle and, at the point where we'd normally be curdled up in a corner crying like babies we were all done and just pretending to work.

I was recently encouraged by a careful reading of United States v Butler (link) and finding that, once again, it is a ruling that is the exact opposite of what many people these days believe it to be — amounting to willful misrepresentation on some folk's part to be sure.
