Aw that's a shame. There may be someone on the BFTB forum driving past who could give you a lift, if you want?

Oooh, very tempting but a bit short notice unfortunately.
You can never meet Simon Furman enough times.

I hope it goes well and returns next yeah when I can make it.

It's a prior engagement that prevents me from looking into it, but I hope you all have a good day anyway.

Have no fear, I'd be otherwise engaged even if it had been announced moths ago, family commitments (and wacky work in the evening come to that, but that's more fudgeable).

Wildman will be an interesting guest, IIRC he pretty much announced his Tranformers "retirement" at his last AA ('09) because he was bored of the whole thing, he was also extremely disparaging of his GI Joe work considering soldiers to be unsuitable for a kids comic. Presumably his stance on one of these must have changed in the interim.

That's interesting. I can see where he's coming from, but I would counter that reading Charley's War as a child was a major contributing factor in my becoming a pacifist in later years. I suppose it's all in the execution, whether it glorifies war or portrays the horror. I look forward to meeting him.

That or he's a liar. I'm fairly sure that by the time they resorted to him, there were no soldiers in GI Joe for a start, just ninjas and Big Ben driving around in a terrible jeep going "Cor blimey Mary Poppins, which way to the cricket?". What he means is there's no work in GI Joe for him because everyone hated the Liefield-esque shite he handed in for the title, whereas various Transformers publishers were a lot slower to cotton on to his complete dependence on Baskerville...

I'm really not particularly keen on Andy "Andrew" Wildman. Geoff looks like he hits people for a living, though, which only adds to his general awesomeness.

Well, there's always the benefit of the doubt. For some reason he did seem really unusually hacked off at AA '09, as I think I said at the time he clearly needed a break from it so perhaps a couple of years off has left him more cheerful?

He really does have the square jaw he gives all the humans he draws doesn't he?
