Hmm, yes/no. Yes, because the overall boon of the live action stuff as a general popular trend seems to be fading, but no because the boon of the live action stuff quit pushing its own merchandise back with DOTM.

With the masterpiece line, I think it's more of trying to see how many golden eggs they can get the goose to lay at once rather than trying to get as many as they can before the goose dies.

AT THE SAME TIME, I don't blame them, really. If they can keep raising the prices without significant sales losses, they have every justification to.

Takara Piranhacon teaser

Only dates shown that I can read say 2019, so I guess the full set comes out this year? Or maybe just these two, and the rest next year?

Bluestreak and Ratchet, too. Neither of whom do much for me. I wish they'd give the doc a bit more colour in his pallette for once. Bluestreak isn't bad but I already own several "not bad" Bluestreaks...

I think each Seacon is coming out individually, since these two have separate (very high) prices. I do like the Seacons, but not enough to pay Titan prices for the whole lot.

Yeah, this one was unexpected. How do they get to Lioconvoy but still haven't done a Galvatron yet?

Was not expecting Lio Convoy as the next new-mold Beast Wars MP, but I guess because it's a Convoy, I shouldn't be that surprised.

Looks alright enough. I'm sure it'll cost $280 or so, though.

Now that they're making his Maximal counterpart, I'm half-expecting a BW Galvatron before a G1 version. It sound silly, but you just wait!

Fair point to seibertron, they noticed that Lio Convoy's lion head and mane completely change from beast to robot mode.

It doesn't seem like it has room to turn inside out, but, well... I guess it does. That's nifty!

Lio Convoy looks pretty neat. The cartoon-accurate look isn't for me. It's put me off the regualr BW MP releases. I get that's the line's ethos, but I like the fur, feather and scales of the original toys. These are all too smooth for my taste for the BW guys.

YES.

All four of these are fucking amazing. I hope they're regular releases and not Selects that I'll have to chase down from specialty stores. BUT I ABSOLUTELY WILL IF I HAVE TO. Spinister and Crosshairs have been my #1 and #2 most wanted characters since, well...since Classics started. This is even more exciting than Misfire was.

I like Apeface and Spinister!!! Crosshairs looks cool too. Astrotrain I'm totally not interested in as he's had 94 toys already.

This is great. I've liked the Siege toys I've bought, but I've not been totally sold on it because of the focus again on the '84/'85 characters who, in the main, have been well represented already.

I'm definitely getting Apeface and Astrotrain. I just hope they come out with Snapdragon too.

In order of excitement:

Apeface looks great, especially the expression/smile in gorilla mode. It looks like Titanmaster legs on the top of the gorilla head, too. The jet is even blockier than most TFs, but I guess in this case it's G1 accurate.

I like Spinister's color scheme. It looks like he has a spare cockpit, like SS Grimlock's spare dino head, to allow for bot mode symetry while having an asymetrical transformation.

I like the idea of a locomotive Astrotrain for the juxtapositon of an old-timey train with a modern space shuttle. But, this one doesn't pull it off. The front axle looks much shorter than the other axles, meaning it wouldn't even theotretically run on tracks. The back half of the space shuttle isn't solid; I don't know about the back half of the locomotive.

The bot mode looks good, but I've already got a couple Astrotrains with good bot modes. Plus, this guy's a Leader. Which means he'll either tower over my other triple changers, or it's another $50 Voyager with a bunch of accessories I don't care about.

I have no affinity for G1 Crosshairs or the Seige Ironhide mold.

Crosshairs I might pick up for the mould if it looks a bit better in-hand, wasn't interested in another Ironhide or Ratchet. Astrotrain being leader class does would reduce interest, although leader class these days probably just means the same sort of size as the ToyWorld one I've got.

Apeface and Spinister, still the same reaction as initially -- the club/con Spinister redeco approach would have worked but getting a new mould sells it even more. Apeface has lots of character, clearly someone had fun designing.

My take as well. The line's been good but the character selection for the first few waves couldn't have been more vanilla. This wave actually illustrates that perfectly for me -- Crosshairs, Spinister and Apeface just needed to exist to get me interested, since none of them have gotten proper new toys since the 80s. Astrotrain (the unaligned wheels that Tantrum mentioned aside) looks to be as good or better than the lot them, but thanks to the Classics and TR figures and a bevy of third-party offerings, he's definitely the least-interesting of the bunch.

I'm having a hard time judging how big he'll be. I think most people are hoping that he'll be the same size as TR Blitzwing and Octane in robot mode? The other Siege leaders are so small, but Astrotrain doesn't seem to have a pile of add-on armour parts like they did. Does that mean he's bigger? Or does he have armour-up parts that we just haven't seen yet?

At first glance, Apeface seems like he's one of the more well-rounded Triplechangers we've gotten in modern times. All three of his modes are solid, and like you say, he's got lots of personality. Hopefully the final product turns out to be a lot of fun.

Oh, how quickly we've forgotten Flywheels, Cog, Sixgun, and Brunt. :)

(but yeah, I know what you mean)

Can't imagine why they wouldn't at this point. Although I would suspect Snapdragon to be in the next WFC sub-line.

I had a fun thought about Astrotrain: buy all three toys, one for each mode! Deluxe for robot, voyager for train, leader for spaceship.

I said "character selection", not "accessories for big toys they released years ago selection". Flywheels is the only one who counts. ;)

I do appreciate the weaponizers, really I do. They're just surrounded by so much 1984 that they don't really get me too excited. And even that's not really fair, what with whole assortments of Micromasters, Targetmasters and Action Master partners. It's just that they'd segregated most of the fresh characters into the cheaper price points so far.

Those three (Cog, Six Gun & Brunt) are funny toys. They're fun, but really do feel like accessory packs. Kind of like buying one of those hats and clothes sets for a Barbie. Only with shooty robots.
